The same thing happened to me six months ago also on a solo Sitfly Jump. broke my Left femur, my right hip and three ribs......I also usually check my gear religiously as I am a paraplegic. Video Link below......you certainly don't want this happening to you

Records are sketchy Minna, I tried to find out all this kind of info when I started jumping, there were some concessions made for an instructor who wanted to carry on doing ground schooling and needed to maintain his licence. But I also could not find a lot of info about that case. I've never heard of Daniel Fairchild though. I'm fairly certain the only Paras jumping are Myself and those we know about. A couple new guys are coming through now as well.

Just a couple of pointers if you don't mind. I notice that you doing a little bit of that porpoising. I used to get that too, when that happens you need to physically force yourself in to a full body "relax", this will stop the rocking and you will find the sweet spot between having enough control and keeping that rocking at bay. I also notice you went with the pool noodle idea. Just be carefully you don't end up on your back and lose a pilot chute through there, could be nasty. This was the main reason I did not go that route. The webbing also seems to give me a whole lot of stability more than I had without it. I noticed that porpoising also never seems to happen to me anymore since I started using that between the crotch webbing.

Its a bit strange that I have not heard of you before since I had my accident a little before yours and also returned to the sport a year after my accident and have been jumping off and on ever since. When I started out I tried to find other Paraplegic jumpers but up to that point it had not been done before. Tell me a bit about your set up, do you just jump without any Devices?

The legs strapped together set up does not really work very well, when I first designed the system Both Dale and I use, (and I think Minna as well) I went through many different designs, but the only one that worked in multiple modes like flat flying and sit flying was a legs locked at 90deg set up and a web spacer between the legs to keep them from moving around. As airtwardo mentioned a device that can change the angle of lock would be most beneficial. This way we could start making moves in to the Wingsuit flying arena, which is the next Para challenge.

Good luck on the documentary, I wanted to do this myself twelve years ago, but did not get enough people that trusted that i would not kill myself. Tell us what system he will be using?

Hey Minna, sorry to get in to this so late, but it's been a while since I logged on.
I have done many jumps out of a 182 without any problems.
I usually swing my legs out and shift myself out so I am sitting on the wheel strut. Side roll off the strut and away you go.
I sometimes do a back roll off the strut while holding on to my legs, to swing them up and over as I go over. This way usually results in rapid stability. Faster than with a usual exit. Possibly the roll helps with this. It all depends if the door is fore or aft and where the strut is in relation to the door.. If you can just sit on the strut and exit as you please.

I have sent you a private message but in short. It is possible and a totall blast. I have done more than seventy skydives both flat flying and sit flying. All that is required is the right equipment and instruction. Remember, The sky is no limit.

look up the "pieces of eight" skydive team, they are all amputee's, and wow can these guys fly!!!

i skydive because i am an addict. i was addicted to chemicals(crack) for ten years+, the only substitute that i have been able to find is extreme sports, skydiving in particular. if ever i am injured i need to be very carefull cause those old rock star feelings come running!!

there is no correct answer it is subjective and a personal choice. only someone with said disability can decide what is offensive to him/her. as i said before 'cripple' or "disabled" refers to something that once worked and now no longer does. i dont feel this is accurrate.(even though i prefer to be called disabled)
by the way, do you have a close relationship with anyone who is disabled?? just out of interest
