  1. Jimmy,
I was driving to work today. Chris Daughtry was playing on the radio. Home. As usual, that song reduced me to tears. The boys sure know how to pick a fitting song don't they? The flashbacks started, and I remembered the craziness of the WFFC year after year. The memories are still so clear. I visualized the funeral, and such a saddness came over me. Right at the exact moment I was feeling really sorry for all those who must now live without you, the brightest shooting star fell right before my eyes. It was the most incredible sight. Immediately I knew that you were sending a message that you are not that far away. Thank you for that. Please remember us all down here, we will never forget you.

  3. Jay is an awesome guy. Skyfest will rock. I see no logical reason to miss either one!! Does one really need to REPLACE the other???? I never meant to imply that the WFFC replace any other boogie. Our club goes to many. I just want Rantoul back!!:)

  4. Beth,

I will be there with my 7 hills crew under our dropzone row tent Don willing. I will also be the faithful medical volunteer once again. I was devestated at the cancellation last year, and need this year to happen.

Don, this event needs to happen. The problem that exists for most at this time is simply needing dates, so we do not overlap club parties, and other boogies. I have submitted my vacation time, and made the hotel reservations already. I need to see my friends that I only see once a year in Rantoul. You do have some faithful attendees Don. You announce it, jumpers will come!!!

I have also placed a post on the www.freefall.com site. Maybe we can stir up the community!!

    Until July???

  5. Oh Devin!
Please please please say you will come to see us. I think Chris and Missy are busy this weekend but the rest of you can come up! Better yet, tell them to cancel their plans and come to Wisconsin. It would be great to see you all again under better circumstances.
After the last tequilla experience with you babe, I have officially sworn the crap off, but Captain or Crown? Tons of food and Spotted Cow on tap,the only thing missing will be you!
    And bring my T shirt!!

  6. I have heard the same, but unfortunately it sounded more fact than rumor. I will keep holding my breath until the web site is updated, but when it comes down to it, when they start calling the staff/volunteers to tell them....it sounds real to me. I guess the only non surprised person is Don Kirlin. As far as I go, I am horribly upset and sadddened by this announcement. It would have been year 9 for me.

Really...this was a clothing on "thingy." We had an inflatable monkey tied by his tail to the front of the raft. It was a typical raft dive, all the people were clothed...we just had a monkey along. The pics were taken on Saturday and were actually seen in the trailer. Just missing from the web site. All 100% family oriented!!!

  8. If you go to skydiving movies do a search on Mr. Bill Landed. You will find John King and McBain landing one of these. I saw the landing and it was quite a site. You really need to talk to John about how many practice jumps occur and how he learned to "climb" up McBain and turn around to stand on his shoulders. Complicated enough to accomplish this part, much less landing one. His story is hysterical, his mindset....insane. I'd never have the balls!

  9. No offense taken. Yes, it was skydiving, yes I have excellent canopy skills. Yes, I have been coached. This was a matter of temporary insanity, thinking I could fly my 108 on a hot air balloon jump, in an unfamiliar area, add a little crew action, not staying very altitude aware, and needing to find a last minute landing area, next to a highway. My suspension lines caught on the corner of a triangular shaped road sign, swung me around and impaled me into the post and tried to make me a permanent part of the sign. Yes, true and stupid, but hind sight is always 20/20. (But the pictures of the xrays are impressive:$) This was my first and only skydiving injury. And my last, hopefully. It cut the WFFC in half!

Guess who is teaching canopy control at our DZ on safety day........

  10. It is so hard to decide. It sounds as if you had PAIN, and what I really have is irritation. Sometimes worse than others. I never really believed in people predicting weather by how their hardware aches, until now. I am still so new with my "new parts", it is hard to tell if it is weather, over doing it or what. I am finally back to jumping, able to jog, and it is hard to decide on your own accord to actually have another surgery versus deal with the aches and pains. When my femur was shaped like the letter C and my hand was off its connection points, sugery was obvious. Now it is a hard decision. The wrist scares me, as in a six inch area I have so much hardware, another sugery would create more adhesions and scar tissue...this is my dominant hand, my pull hand and well....I don't want any limitations to my range of motion. I guess if I was miserable with pain, it would be an easier choice.

So, you are satisfied with your choices??

  11. I took my right femur and nicely created 5 pieces out of it. This is supported by a giant rod (titanium) with 2 screws at the knee and 2 in the hip. I was also lucky eough to have my hand break off the ulna and radius, so this is held nicely together with a rod and plate and 10 screws. It has been 6.5 months and my trauma ortho docs say that the hardware may be removed 1 year after original surgery. The screws out would be a week off work. The rod out would be crutches for about 8 weeks. The question is....is another surgery really worth more rehab and 8 weeks out of the sport? My right butt gets numb if I spend any time on it, and my hand is arthritic, but at least I am put back together. Will I elect to have any of it out? Nope, but who knows what the future holds. I would not like to redo the therapy which would be required.

    Good Luck on your decision!
