  1. Probably does not count but it sucked all the same.

I was filming a 3 way tube meat bomb with a bunch of people who did not even have cat 10 basic rw which is required when jumping together, anyway I did not know it I assumed they did anyway I flew my ass off stayed with the tube all the way perfectly framed a really tight in. It was all over the place spinning at mutiple axises.

I watched the vid when I landed primed the tape to show the guys and then got distracted jumped in the plane and filmed over it DUH!!

Being as they then got rumbled i did not get a second chance to do it again.

It was one of my best ever videos

  2. Question to all you MAC users,
    I have a G4 iBook,

When I use iMovie it edits the whole files while I am working on it as apposed to creating an overlay type template which does not touch the raw footage.

I was using windows movie maker which creates a template so to speak.

    My question is
    a) Am I using iMovie incorrectly ?
    b) If not what sensibly priced software will give me the option to just create a template file that can be compiled into a movie without touching the RAW footage.

How does Final Cut Express handle things?

    Thanks

  3. What time of the year is jumping most pleasant and most likely to get loads of jumpable days?

Also what DZ is best to turn up at on your own and get to jump with lots a cool people? And also to get some freefly coaching?

I thinking of making a trip this year but I am not sure what time is good to come over

  4. How to get published,

Borrow a camera and go on a great skydive.

I shot a picture of and 8-way atmonauti line.

Published in Paramag and Skydive the Mag (UK publication)

It was also put on the back cover of the official DVD of the Atmonauti Pro 2 Boogie.

    I am stoked,

  5. Tandem atmonauti is mental,

I did camera on an 8 way with Tandem Atmonauti Jump at the Atmonauti pro boogie, the Photo's are not great as it was a late load so lighting was not good.

The Atmo Tandem is way slower than a normal drogueless tandem, and moves forward like you would not believe.

    Go to www.atmonauti.com for pics

  6. I started at 16 and a month or so, actually my parents gave me the Money I used for my birthday.

After an operation as a result of a skydiving mishap doing SL pregression, my Dad still sponsored me 50% for the AFF course and Jumps until I started earning money.

    So sweet

Now I have to pay it all myself :(

  7. Slightly off topic but makes for a sweet shot

Pop up a Bit do a 180 and and start tracking away looking back you can keep them in frame then just keep you head focussed on them and do a 1/2 front loop, basically a dive that just slips,

You get a really cool sequence

  8. Ok I am no designer but this could work

If you are talking about a board.

Mount a reserve pc spring(only the spring) mount it so the narrow part would be furthest from the board when extended.

Make a 2 holes in the board one which is aligned to the center of the spring, attach teflon cutaway cables to the apex of the spring along with a closing loop.

Attach a long piece of hardhousing to the board probably with the eye located over the centred hole. now fashion a long reserve ripcord with a pin on one end. Run the housing up the leg, side and down the arm. Attach a pair of pliers(or something) which are spring loaded to open when released, link a hand grenade tricker. SO that when is is released it pulls the reserve ricord which then activates the spring which pulls this cutaway.

The need for the spring etc is to allow a long cutaway stoke.

Route the teflon cables through the offsett hole. Ensure the edges of this whole are curved inwards so as to allow easy estraction of the cutaway cables.

This is fairly poorly explained but I am sure you get the picture, configured correctly the spring in the hand unit should not have to exceed a push force of 20LBS to esure that the reserve pin is extracted.

one thing is to make sure the reserve pin is located in such away not to lock up. ie do not just have the closing loop coming though say soft wood as the pin would get longed in the wood which will make a bad day.

Where are you going to perform this stunt I have a camera and could come along and take some photo's if its anywhere near by

  9. First for those who want a quick read what Lens combination do you use on a digital stills with a 1.6x FLM and a video camera to get the same/similair frame sizes??
I want real world answers not thoeries

Ok so here is the thing

I have done a few jumps with a borrowed system with an EOS 300D(Rebel)

First with the kit lens at 18mm (until it got water in doke) this matched to my PC 107 with Sony 0.6 very nicely with similair framing

The I used a 16mm Zenitar and manged to get a few nicely framed stills but was much to close for the video, but stills rule so I was not to upset.

But here is the thing the Zenitar is compact and light and also fixed so easier to seal up I assume.

So my question is what lens for my video will best match this lens?

I look forward to your responses

  10. I jump a PC 107 and for what you want I am sure it will be fine, sure it is only 800k as apposed to some of the mega pixel cams but it works for me.

As a first camera just for laughs it works out fine

  11. You can try increasing you angle of attack to the point that you are not flying faster forward than the formation

Think small arms tight to your sides, legs together and bend forward at the waist, you will get down but take it easy to start with.

Then contol the vertical speed by spreading or closing your legs.

If you are high above a formation you should always aim in font and to the side to stay safe. Of the whole formation not just the rabbit, what out for others who may be weaving etc.

IN FRONT- because the formation is moving so if you aim at them when you get down you will be behind them.

TO THE SIDE- incase you over cook the dive, if you are aimed to the side the worst that happens is you go low on the formation, and cannot get back up, if you aim at the formation you over cook it well I am sure I don't need to explain.

    ---once you have some experience-----
If you tighs are not burning as you slow down as you approach to the side of the formation you are not going hard enough
---do not try this without a good deal of tracking exerience---

  12. Just a thought would it not be possible to wire up an LED to a flash bracket, so it is like an off camera flash which will fire when you shoot? Not sure thats really practical but it would seem there is an output going on there that can be harnessed?

Possibly to complicated I do not know much about flashes but it must be possible

  13. I am going to a flat top style as it offers better protection for the stills camera, and at present my still costs way more than my video.

Also I will mount another video ontop when I want to get better quality and keep the other for funky mounting, reverse etc, or a backup for high reliability work

  14. As above many are discontinued, But you will find also that there is normall another refix

    ie.

    A PC 107 is infact a DCR-PC107

I have just looked at the UK website and it is now showing as a previous model, aish.

Anyway just go the Sony site and look for MiniDV camcorders

  15. I have learned loads and as a result have a better understanding of the risks,

I am learning to swoop but I am not down sizing or changing planform, and I will not until I have the skills required. I expect to do atleast another 200 jumps on the cuurent canopy before even cosidering it.

  16. At the risk of having myself flamed beyond believe I would like to offer something I think is valuable that I leaned first hand this weekend.

last load if the day I do my now standard, double front to 90 degree to double front approach.

I was what I thought was just a little bit low and braked a bit firmly.

Just skimming firmly the top of the grass with the top of my foot folded tightly underneath me. I do a right leg forward left leg tucked under landing configuration.

I popped up a bit due to the over aggressive flaring.

Now I thought I had got it just a little bit wrong and had had to flare just a little bit earlier than acceptable and the only reason I popped up was because I flared to hard.

Then I saw the video, and it told a different story.

I was more the a little low, and the flare was not a little early rather a big dig,

The reason I am posting is this. Get someone to video your landings, you might think ok it was a little low, don't do it again but the truth may be that you were a lot low and did not ever realise.

So flame if you must but to those learning to swoop get someone to video you so that you can really understand what you are doing.

What it feels like is not always what it is

  17. quote chop /quote

I cannot see how chopping is going to in anyway add to your swoopage, you might hit the gate, but I am not sure that it even counts, either way you're dead so the score would not help you.

No I am not being serious and this is probably not the place for it but come on it was to tempting
