  2. Hey hey,
Twin Otter will be at Clewiston again on the 5th and 6th. Come out and jump and enjoy the last scheduled TO weekend. We will again have organized RW jumps. A few experienced free flyers are always around to help out novices. We party at one of the local bars Judy's or the Big O at night. :D :P

You shouldn't freeze previously frozen, then thawed, uncooked food. You can freeze fresh or cooked food, though.

I always cook thaw food if I can't eat before freezing again. Recent Hurricanes in Florida left me with no power for a week. Is that necessary? I'd imagine the bacteria would get a second chance to build up during the second thawing process.

Thanks all, you gave this single guy some peace of mind.

The only issue that I can think of is bacterial growth in the cooked food if it's been left out after cooking. But even so, freezing then thorough reheating should take care of any nasty bugs.

That's the only thing I could think of too. Nukeing the food though should reduce any bacteria.

I should add their logic was I should only refrigerate and not freeze. That seems worse and seemed even less logical. Of course I freeze so food last more then a few days and stays tastey.

  6. Here's one for you all. All the woman in my family say you can't freeze food after it's cooked. I'm single and get free cooked food all the time so do it anyways. Is it bad or is this an old wives tale? Will it cause cancer or something?

  7. I don't know if we need to just show the competition side. Most of my video show the weird off the wall stuff. Ever see the Richmond video with the Prercher. That was entertaining and it cracked up all my non-skydiver friends. I think a format that mixes all aspects would be cool. Defiantly having some hard core competitive stuff but mix it with the hippy type skydiver talking trash would be awesome. With all the video people out there I think it would be dirt cheap. I'm know Meduse could come up with wacky stuff to no end.

  8. Finally back to the subject. I think your points are very good. I think it would be great if skydivers had there own TV channel. There is defiantly a lot of video out there. Does anyone know if this has been tried? If darts can get on TV then skydiving can. Does anyone know there phone number?

  9. There use to be a 25+ DZs in Florida. Ask any old time skydiver (in sport 20+ years) where there home DZ was and you would be surprised at most of there answers. As far as air port access issues. Those are easy to deal with when you have more skydivers making money for the town. Pahokee went out of business due to management issues and then 3 owners ago the owner had some legal issues (putting lightly).

You guys seem very negative about new jumpers. I love jumping with someone once they get an A license!!! We need fresh skydivers to keep this sport fun. I can see almost all of you nit-picky the first free flyers.

That would suck. I'd hate to have skydiving become skiing, where you don't know anyone at the mountain, the operators are faceless suits, and most of your time is spent in the two-hour line in front of manifest.

I'm sorry but I don't agree with that view. It's not like we have limited planes or airports. If there were more jumpers then there would be more instructors and coaches. Just ask any person who use to be a full time RW or Freefly coach at skydiving's peek. The more skydivers the more money and demand for those three.

OK so that has been proven wrong.

No, I wasn't proven wrong you just don't like the source of the documented numbers.

Maybe I didn't state my opinion clear enough:
Right now roughly only 0.01% (most likely a lot less) of population jump. I believe with better marketing it would be around 1%.

Almost everyone I know who skydives was a climber, dirt bike rider, pilot, bull rider or scuba diver before they found out how much fun and less dangerous skydiving was. Most sold there other sport gear to get into skydiving. I myself would have gotten into auto racing if didn't do research about skydiving first.

Where did you get these numbers?

I can tell you that they are in no way close to reality.

If they were we would not have so much turn over of students.

Census says population around 300 million. USPA says around 30 thousand skydivers. I rounded those figures to make math easy.

    30k of 300m equals 1 in 10,000 or 0.01%.

    2) More jumpers means more loads fly at small DZ's

    Quote

Kind of like getting more people on the ski slopes. It just means longer lift lines. More jumpers will mean longer waits for slots in the aircraft.

When I first started all 3 DZs had at least 2 planes going at all times on weekends. The smallest had 3 going (caravan/porter/206 with a 182 just in case). So if they got that busy either the business would spread out and/or the DZs would get more planes.

  14. I think it's all poor marketing. Most people I talk to are surprised how accessible skydiving is. It's not the money. I was dirt poor when I started. There has got to be more then 1 in 10,000 people in this county that want to skydive on a active bases. I'm willing to bet 1 in 100 would jump if they saw the safe pure fun side of skydiving regularly. There was a big increase in jumpers when skydive movies came out and when there was the skysurf fad. We as a community need to bring in as many people as possible. And not just for a tandem so we can get one free ride. Some think skydiving for the masses is dangerous but what about driving? I know that is way more dangerous then skydiving.

    More skydivers means:
    cheaper R&D for manufactures
    more full planes: lower rates
bigger voice for govement: less intrusion
    more dropzones: less travel

I think more non-tandem tv commercials could help.

will i think thats cool if you believe we went in there like heros to save the poor iraqis. but bro , what about history. we put saddam there, how hipocritical to say we're saving the iraqis by taking him out. but are you telling me we're not gonna stop until every dictatorship in the world is overturned.

History is why we are there. The US and other countries played with the devil in order to fight the Cold War which was partners with Iran. (Enemy of Enemy is my Friend logic). In hindsight that led to the current events but no one says we would could have won the Cold War otherwise.

the whole point i was making about skydivers being killed may have passed over your head so let be back pedal for a sec.

It didn't go over my head. Your comparison doesn't make since. An individual death in a sport like parachuting does not compare to soldiers fighting in a large scale war. No body is shooting at me when I jump. I check my own gear. Now if someone rigged my parachute to fail then I might see a small comparison but yours was more general.

get the troops out imediatley yes, saddam can be trird in the world court and bush might make an appearance there himself just to explain himse

We'll if you think going in was a bad idea then locking up SH would be wrong too. If you want to put SH on trail then you logically believe the means justified then ends.

I'm not even going to touch the socialist idea of a world court. The people of iraq have enough reasons to put SH on trial and put him to death. And if not then a US Military lead trail should do the trick.

damn bro, who should we invade for the skydivers who dies last year?

That is an illogical comparison. I would say that the skydiver them selves should make all efforts to stay safe. But interesting that you avoid answering yet included that in your response.

I love this country. I love the brave men & women that have fought and still fight to spread freedom across this planet. Seems to me we should be doing more.

Spreading freedom and tolerance is the only path to peace. That requires wars and killing people. Just asking that people be nice has not helped in the past 50 years. Hopefully only the enemy die but evil people like putting the innocent in the way. I think we went to a lot of effort to reduce the innocent getting killed. I have heard Bush say this all along. Maybe you never listen to him. Look where the enemy is coming from. Either from heavy repressed or evil dictatorships.

they keep on saying that there are a few tens of thousand insurgents.

The enemy seems stupid for coming into a country where we would be legally allowed to kill them. It sucks but at least we don't have to invade Iran and if and when we do then it will be all that much easier.

  19. To all that think this war is a mistake because of missing WMD, lack of terror ties and/or US is evil.

    What do you suggest?
Sounds to me your logical answer would be:
Withdraw all US troops and let SH out of prison.
After all most of you doves are saying we should not have gone in.
If not what do you suggest?

    Is this war that bad?
Looks like we're doing great compared to other wars.
1000 killed in 2 years was 2 month in other conflicts.
Far less then those killed in 9/11 and they were not expecting to fight for their lives.

  20. Jump more, spend less and convince as many people as possible to pay me for it. Crap did so many firsts this year that :D fund breaking bank. I even messed up my ankle a few times and that didn't stop me. Some how I'll double next year.

    On the list:
Mr Bill from a round paracommander
    Rigger Ratings
    AFF Ratings
Video as many cool skydivers as possible.

    ;)

Peace all and good luck with goals!

  22. I just got email from Lisa.
There will be a Twin Otter at Air Adventures this weekend! (I believe from Cross Keys) Lyle Presse will be doing some load organizing. They will be here the 11th and 12th. It might be back again next month. Please come by this weekend and help support the Otter so it will come back.

I'm also planning on jumping a round parachute again on Sunday. So something odd to see.
