A lot of people who aren't highly specialized in one discipline or another carry both an RW suit and an FF one. That way they are open for all kinds of fun skydiving!

Especially if you're a slow faller you'll soon find that you'll need a tight RW suit to keep up with your friends when doing belly formations.

But suits are of course quite expensive, and as a fresh turkey money is more often than not something that you don't have too much of, so try finding used suits! They can often be modified quite easily to fit ok, and when you've found out what kind of jumping you wanna do you can order a brand new. :)

All precision jumpers I know are pretty freaking good at judging the altitude and hitting that ridiculously tiny spot without precision altimeters....

I just bought a new used rig, and it has RSL. My last two rigs didn't though. I think RSL is a good thing that makes more good than bad in the long run. But personally, if I buy used gear that doesn't have it, I don't get it either.

Watching reserves getting packed is a great way to learn more about your equipment. And knowledge is a good step on the way to safety, which imo is a pretty good thing.

I actually think I might stick around for a while yes....

My first canopy was an old Excalibur 170 that I later sold to a guy way heavier than me. It probably has about 1200 jumps, but it's still flying fine and his Excalibur swoops kicks ass.

I bought a Stiletto 120 after ~300 jumps with an Excalibur 170. But since then I've cut back on jumping so I wanted a nice and square and calm canopy again and got myself a Sabre 135 which I'm very satisfied with.

At first my parents didn't like it at all, but I guess they got used to it over the years.

In general I've noticed that parents seem to get less worked up over their kids skydiving after visiting the dz and watching how it is. Many parents (as well as others of course) have an idea of how horrible skydiving is, that can be pretty far from reality.
