Practice by sticking your arm out your car window on the highway and feel how you can deflect the air with your hand.

P.S. Don't worry about what other drivers will think of this odd behavior!

Nice advice. I'm always sticking both hands up in the air when driving down the highway in my convertible. (Steering with my knee of course). It's the closest I've managed to get to skydiving while on the ground. Probably a little more dangerous though.

Should you stick with the sport, your fear of the canopy not opening will quickly be replaced with fear of it opening too fast.

No doubt. I had a fear of mine not opening my very first couple of jumps. After a hard opening around jump # 30 or so I now thow the hacky and pray, "Dear God make is soft, make it soft"

i know i was thinking of my last flat spin? or whatever it's called... and the instructor somehow not being able to do anything... then getting completely lost- not sure how tough.. pulling low and not being able to finish flaring while landing downwind :) :) :)

    Just remember the priorities:
    1. Pull
    2. Pull Altitude
    3. Pull Stable

Don't dwell on what could go wrong, just pratice in your mind what to do if something does go wrong. Spend time on the ground reviewing your training and safty procedures. Then when you are in the plane let your mind be free and clear. Be confident that you will know what to do if something doesn't go quite right.

On my first jump i was petrified. My instructor told me that in the plane i would be nervous, but as soon as i jumped out the door all the nervousness would turn to pure excitement. He was right. That door isn't the source of fear. It's the gateway to freedom from fear. No matter how nervous you are in the plane, know that once you are out that door you are free!

I second that! Acura's are the best. I had a p.o.s. one a while back but i still loved driving it. Well, until my fiance wrecked it. :(

  5. There seems to be two interpretations of baptism. One is the parents dedicating the child to God. The other is a person dedicating themselves to God. Many churches that perform baptism shortly after birth have some sort of confirmation practice for members to dedicate themselves later in life. For churches not baptizing until teen or adult years the baptism is the confirmation. I don't see reason for any method to be better or worse than another. They are just different ways of doing the same thing.

  6. Well I guess it depends on how your family and grandmother is. Some families wouldn't care at all if you didn't baptize your child into the family church. Other families would try to disown you for it. You just have to think about how she will react and the best way to approach the situation.

One bit of advice though. It sounds like you might want to first sit down with your wife and talk about it so you both know where each other stands. It will be hard to hold your ground against your grandmother if you don't know where your ground is.

  8. Yes, I think married with children had it pretty close. I remember an online survey a while back that asked what TV family was most like theirs. The winner of the survey was the Simpsons.

  9. Shows like Leave it to Beaver don't represent the way families lived. It is total fiction. I mean the men always wore suits around the house. I wasn't alive back then but I really don't think men lived in their suits.

IMHO people are missing the point of family values. To me family values means that you value and care about your family. Everything else is just semantics.
