  1. How strict are they? I haven't made a commercial flight in almost 20 years. I have a couple bags that are just over the linear inches limit.

The next smaller is a bit too small. Can I push it through? They are soft, like gym bags.

    Thanks,

    Keith

  2. aarrg, I was never talking about vaping on planes, I was asking about traveling (TSA) on planes w/ vape stuff.

I was never rude about it anywhere to anyone when I was smoking cigerettes.

  3. The question is ''the transpotation of the divices and associated liquid'', not using them on the plane.

  4. Nothing on the search, so anyone with this expierience?

The good news is I quit smoking, bad news is I still need a crutch. It's working and better than real smoke.

  5. The demo team I used to jump with would jump into Rockford, IL on labor day weekend two jumps a day. The campground we stayed at (let us stay free if we jumped in each day) was less than mile from the ATC and they said they could see our three stack every time.

  6. First you should read the 'Small Camera "Incident" List' in the camera and video forum. Then you might be able to appreciate why the rest of us beat everyone down for wanting to jump with a POV camera.

There is NO value, absolutely NONE, to your learning anything with any kind of camera on your head.

That being said, I've been looking at this camera for a while to use for CRW. I'm certain it will be useless (read "shake") for freefall. I was hoping to see the X5 version with higher resolution.

  7. I've jumped a lot of different canopies (anywhere from 101 to 425) and the one I hate most is the Spectre. I really can't quantify why but it doesn't "behave" the same as others. Openings, great; flying, OK; landing a Spectre I haven't figured out. I can land it OK but not what I would expect.

I've jumped several from 150 to 210 and just don't get that canopy.

  8. After the first 4000 jumps we're treated with dignity and respect, right?

That and never let 'em see your log book, the other pussies stopped logging so they don't get pied.

  9. I think the difference is the military vs. the civilian way. My first three jumps were from Hueys (UH-1H) from 3500' at about 60 - 70 mph.

Civilians thinks of helicopter jumps as zero air speed, aka hover jumps. Of the about 150 Heli jumps I have ( Huey, Blackhawk, Chinook), None were hover jumps.

Granted, a Huey at 14,000' doesn't have much forward speed. They're all good.

  10. I had a class with with a guy I used to work with and was talking about his kids BMX activities, somehow it got around to ''you know, it really isn't that dangerous until there's a camera''.

That was his take on either POV or mom on the sidelines snapping shots. I can; I have, seen the same in skydiving time and time again.

    it's at the nuke plant

Congrats. Please don't push the wrong button.

I've been there before and heard a great story about a job briefing that kind of went like; ''...and whatever you do don't go near that switch, control, whatever...'' and as the boss pointed to it the reactor shut down... , they all got several hours of overtime trying to explain that they didn't do anything.

    Weird shit happens there.

  12. Start next week, with a decent raise at heavy highway scale.

Sadly it's at the nuke plant doing concrete etc. (procedure pace is 1000% slower than production pace and can make for long days), but it'll last a month and give the weather time to break for all the other jobs coming this year.

It's going to be a busy year here in the Quad City area and I have two standing offers for good superintendent jobs ''as soon as the weather breaks'' with more probably coming. That spells competition.

Looking forward to the next month.

***I'm the tall guy bald on top, kinda look like a pissed off serial killer, truck is a lifted '03 4wd Silverado with a 'Skydiver Are Good to the Last Drop' sticker on the back window ...Gear: everything is Red, White & Blue - see ya there! ;)

KINDA look like a pissed off serial killer??

What the fuck do you think a pissed off serial killer looks like?!? :P:P

He kind of does, but he's a really nice fun guy. Oh, and he has stories, lot's of stories.

  14. Hitting the bricks and beating the bushes. All totaled about seven resumes delivered plus an another ten phone calls out.

Day one went pretty much as expected with two short ''interviews''. At least I got some face time with the people that do the hiring and one offer that could turn out decent. Not where I want to land but an offer that that I can leverage.

Day two had some pretty good leads that might go somewhere. One could be really good, there is so much work here once the weather breaks.

Next couple of days is waiting for the contractor that I want to work for to call for an interview (almost certain) and then the offer.

I think I'll take tomorrow off.

  15. OK, technically ''laid off'', but not because of lack of work. The result for me is the same.

Really looking forward to Monday, one scheduled interview and I'll stop by a few others that I have been talking to and try to push for a face to face with the bosses.

  16. YES! That's what is so exciting, many doors are opening with more money and competition for me.

  17. ...and I couldn't be happier. I'm a construction superintendent and was seeing no more work coming after my current project so I put out some feelers, my boss got wind of that and decided that I should go.

Awesome timing, my prospects have never looked better!

I already have two interviews on Monday, and two major competitors bidding for me.

Now we just need the weather to break so some projects can move forward.

    Life is good.
