  1. Thank you SkyDaemon. That certainly helps me gain access to the program, but can I copy it back to where it belongs? I'm too used to having CD's autostart.

And yes, I'd love to scrap Windows for something that actually works, but I'm in too deep.

  2. Something happened to Notepad on my XP Home machine. Going to Programs>Accessories>, I find it, but the familiar blue icon has changed to a white rectangle with a blue bar across the top. Now it won't open, and CD's won't automatically start, since the autostart init file usually uses Notepad. I found a working copy in the WNNT directory. Is it safe to simply copy it to the program folder, or will I create even worse problems? I searched the internet and saw the situation can be caused by trojans, but I scanned my system and it's clean.

  3. You're getting lots of great answers here. I think your next step is to go to your friendly neighborhood music store. If the salespeople there know their stuff, they will lead you in the right direction. Best advice I've heard in my 37 years of playing is buy the best you can afford today. One caveat, here in the Washington, DC area everybody I know will steer clear of the national chains. They are only interested in making their daily sales goal and don't know much about the products. The independently owned shops around here are the only ones I'll go to.

I've played blues, rock, folk, bluegrass, jazz, you name it over the years. There's nothing like the sweet sound of a good guitar, especially to the person playing it. Good luck with your musical adventures. Feel free to PM me if you have more questions.

  4. I would go with Dreamweaver. If you were just dabbling, FrontPage or Notepad would be fine, but you would eventually "move up" to something more robust. The learning curve is high with DW, but with the help of tutorial book and Macromedia's forum, you can have a basic site up in no time. It is a good idea, as some have said, to learn some basic HTML to help tweak the code now and then. Good luck with your site.

  5. Quote

I did a research paper on NAFTA this past semester and also wasn't much impressed with its results.

Did you look into Chapter 11 of the treaty? It gives foreign corporations the right to sue the US Gov't for lost profits. Case in point, a company that makes a carcinogenic gasloine additive is suing because California banned it. Not only that, the hearings are held in private; no media allowed. Our elected leaders pass legislation to protect our lives, and then we as taxpayers pay up for it. It looks like they sold us down the river. Oh, and one of the chief US negotiators for the treaty resigned upon its passing and went to help a Canadian tobacco company sue because they are forced to put the health warning on their packaging. I saw something about this on PBS, maybe someone with more knowledge than I can shed some light on this. I sure hope it's not as bad as it seems.

  6. Gretsch acoustic guitar........picked it up to learn a few chords in hopes in would make me a much better bass player-and it has!

That's funny...I was thinking of taking bass lessons to improve my guitar playing:D

    My gear:
    Epi Dot (poor man's 335)
    G&L Legacy Strat
Line6 Flextone XL - my favorite amp of all time!
    1965 Fender Tremolux
    Taylor 510
    Blues harps in various keys
    Egg

  7. There a number of great DZ's within a 100 mile radius of DC. The ones mentioned already are the closest to you. If you're into some real low key jumping, I've been going to The Skydivin' Place in Kingsdale, PA. It's about 70 nmiles north of DC. One Cessna, fun jumps in between tandems, very friendly atmosphere, NO CLIQUES OR SKYGODS!

  8. Wow, this team could use some help. Keith Richards will freely admit he is a mediocre guitarist. And may I be brave enough to openly state that BB King is one of the most overrated players of all time? He plays the same stale riff in almost every one of his numbers.
Rolling Stone should have asked the participants to put down their bongs before voting. And by restating the question to include only rock guitarists, it would have reduced the length of this thread.

If it sounds good, it isgood-Duke Ellington

  9. IMHO, FrontPage is a toy. CuteHtml is ok, but if you're new to this, there is not a lot of support. If you can shell out for Macromedia Dreamweaver, it will be worth your money. It comes with an excellent tutorial, and there are plenty of good books out there that will quickly take you from A to Z. PM me if you want more information, and I'll point you to a site I created. I've received a number of compliments on it, and I'm a total amateur.
