  1. Thanks for all the replies. I found an article on the 100 and 120 in the December 1986 issue of Sport Parachutist which used to be the british magazine. Unfortunately no photo - would anybody have a link to one?

  2. I've tried google, parachute history and this site but I can't find anything. I did read that the first attempts were organised by Roger Nelson in 1981 but did not complete. Does anybody know?

    Many thanks

  3. I use the normal conceptus tongue switch with an adapter to the N3 plug (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CANON-RS-60E3-jack-to-RS-80N3-plug-Convert-Adapter-/110674424153?hash=item19c4b5b159:g:vAYAAOSwcu5URgZt)

The reason for this is so I can use the same bite switch with either a; rebel,
6D (which has the same socket as the Mkiii) with adaptor
Olympus Pen with a different adapter.

I don't use autofocus so not sure if this would still work if thats a consideration for you?

  4. Very nice technique - very similar to the French Video guy at the world meet in 2006. He got cameraman of the meet so the judges obviously liked it too!

  5. I have 3 different 0.3 lenses for my cx105. A Raynox, Royal and Opteka - they all have different fields of view.

With the Raynox i jump with IS on. With the Royal and Opteka the footage looks much steadier to my eye with the IS off.

Therefore my thoughts would be that it could depend on the lens as well as the IS mode (i think the CX105/100 only has 1 IS mode)

  6. how about 1:53 on this one

This is a speed run from Jay Moledzki - at this competition at Lake Wales the best guys were sometimes getting to the runway off the left hand side of the screen (it wasn't a problem for me! I Never got anywhere near it!) At first I thought he had just almost stalled - when I looked at it again though I thought he was deliberately stopping before the runway. Never got the chance to ask him though.

  7. fd to ef converters have problems

"When it comes to adapting FD lenses to EOS cameras the key difference here is the lens register incompatibility. Adapters for Canon FD-mount lenses, including the two adapter models that Canon themselves sold at one point, must deal with this incompatibility somehow. Either they contain optics (glass lens elements) to compensate for the register difference and retain infinity focus or else they don’t contain optics and don’t retain infinity focus. There’s no way around this.

Canon’s optic-containing FD-lens-on-EOS-body adapters were basically small teleconverters (1.26x) and only worked properly with a number of their longer telephoto lenses - effectively transforming them into longer slower lenses - you lost 2/3 stop. The full official list of compatible lenses is:

    FD 200mm 1.8 L
    FD 200mm 2.8 RF
    FD 300mm 2.8 L
    FD 300mm 4
    FD 300mm 4 L
    FD 400mm 2.8 L
    FD 400mm 4.5
    FD 500mm 4.5 L
    FD 600mm 4.5
    FD 800mm 5.6 L
    FD 50-300mm 4.5 L
    FD 85-300mm 4.5
    FD 150-600mm 5.6 L

Third parties have made similar glass-containing adapters, but by contrast their optics are usually poor and thus image quality tends to be generally low."

however I have used Nikon lenses with canon cameras quite succesfully - mainly using aperture priority.
You can pick up some some old nikon glass from ebay priced quite reasonably

  8. I have had no problem with the canon 15mm, tokina 10-17mm, Peleng 8mm or Zenitar 16mm except in 'extreme' weather conditions. I'm fairly sure that Willy Boeykens jumps the sigma 8mm on occasion so that must be a good lens.

Its a shame if the Samyang 14mm is similarly affected as it gets a good review here (in terms of resolution at least) http://www.photozone.de/canon_eos_ff/532-samyang14f28eosff

  9. This is how I do it.
My jacket came with the plastic snaps. I put on the swedish rsl shackles using some old slinks. I then just had a loop of tape stitched onto my legstraps just under the hip rings. They seem to be holding up well - I have done maybe 1000 jumps like this.
I have seen stainless rings almost wear through the brass shackles.

    Hope the attached pic explains!

  10. I find technology very interesting like this. We like to believe that whatever system we have invested in is the best system and don't like to admit that other systems are as good or even better! We then try to convince others to invest in the same system we use! Some of the fanboy 'discussions' on sites like dpreview.com get absolutely ridiculous!

I personally use canon - when i wanted my first dslr in 2005 i wanted to go with Nikon as my film kit was Nikon. However the D70 (which was the only one within my budget) only had an IR remote port. So i switched to Canon - just after this the D70s came out!

I have a couple of Canon bodies (350D and 5D) and a few lenses (15mm, 20mm, 10-17mm) and a flashgun and am very happy. I am sure I would be equally as happy with Nikon.

  11. One of my friends said the parts cost about £12 ($20) Hypeye in the UK costs about £75
I think they all saw it as a challenge rather then a way of saving money.

It certainly wouldn't be worth me doing it Phil!

  12. Did a search and couldn't find anything.

When I opened up a CX105 to take the strap off cleanly I noticed that there is one of those little plastic 'jumpers' that had PAL written on one side and NT written on the other.

I was wondering if this switched between PAL/NTSC - anybody know?

  13. 3 of my friends have converted cameyes to work with their CX105's/CX7. They say its a bit of a fiddly job but if you know what you're doing electronically its doable.

the recovery arc is like most say short.
    //JF

    Most people seem to be saying this but i don't think theres much in it - my experience is that its a little shorter then a velo but not by much. I'm turning my 91 at about the same height as i used to turn a velo 96;

I normally do a 270 - maybe this difference in recovery arc is more noticeable on bigger rotations?

Is the fact that my Sensei is a 91 compared with a velo 96 making up for the shorter arc?

Its a couple of years since I jumped velo's so maybe i'm not remembering correctly?

Whatever the reason i don't think the recovery arc can be described as 'short' - just not quite as long as a Velo (which perhaps has the longest recovery arc on the market?)

Not trying to start an argument - just that i'm not seeing what most people seem to be reporting.

I use DPP. (Hey it’s free and I think it is very good. Downside is that it does not let you tilt image. I hate tilted horizon.)

3.8 is just out on PC and you can tilt! Not sure about Mac version.
