  3. Hi, I'm seriously thinking about upsizing from an Echo 150 to a 170 or even 190 PD Pulse or FW Prime: both manufacturers claim (for the mentioned wings) hassle-free openings, flat glide and easy landings. Is there anyone who would be able to compare the Pulse with a Prime regarding these characteristics? Philippe B-49110

    Spectre

The lightly-tapered 7-cell Spectre is one of the most popular canopies PD has ever produced. A surprisingly flat glide and soft on-heading openings (with plenty of snivel!) make the Spectre the canopy of choice for the professional cameraman or the everyday wingsuiter. The Spectre is also known for its smooth, progressive response on the toggles. If your priority is predictability, the Spectre is your canopy.
  6. Performance Designs is beyond thrilled to announce the release of the long-awaited Sabre3. For nearly 40 years, their design team has worked tirelessly to refine what is possible in canopy design, and they've done it again, delivering yet another cutting-edge canopy to the skydiving community. The Sabre3 is not only worthy of the name, it redefines it. This new wing exemplifies PD's continued passion to build the next greatest all around 9-cell modern canopy, one which is sure to excite anyone who flies it, and truly amaze those new to the brand. One flight proves it: it's not just a new wing, it's a better wing. Though the Sabre3 shares a lineage with two historically popular Performance Designs canopies, the Sabre and Sabre2, the designers began with a clean slate with the goal of creating the world’s next most popular canopy. They enhanced the qualities people loved most about the Sabre2 but minimized or eliminated those some found less desirable. Already tested endlessly by PD Test Jumpers, and demoed by PD Athletes, the Sabre3 has been described as dynamic, powerful, and perfectly suited for today’s modern canopy pilot - delivering superb openings, crisp response, and amazing landings. “The Sabre3 definitely has the range to be a great straight in, no wind, standard landing type canopy for a lower experience jumper. Or you can really push it and get some amazing flight performance out of it. It’s pretty much for the world. What we want as skydivers is a reliable canopy that is predictable on opening all the way through landing. It really is a beautiful wing. ”- Brad Cole, PD Test Jumper The Sabre 3 is not just a new wing, it’s a better wing. You asked, they listened and delivered once again. Like all of their canopies, Performance Designs’ Sabre3 is available for demo before purchase. Those ready to own one should contact their local Authorized PD Dealer to discuss if the canopy is right for them. Additional specs and stats can be found on the Performance Designs website.
  7. Performance Designs donates masks to first responders and healthcare workers in their hometown. PD employs just shy of 200 folks in VolusiaCounty. In late March, when the Coronavirus concerns began to close in on the area, PD closed their production facility. After a couple of weeks of planning, they reopened, primarily for the manufacturing of Defense Industrial Base products, and with many new health and safety guidelines in place. Constant cleaning in the factory continues, in addition to other changes in the "new normal" work environment. Many folks working at PD wanted to help the community and do something for local first responders. Performance Designs reached out to another local Florida business that manufactures masks and partnered with them. The goal is to support local manufacturing, as well as to provide masks to first responders and healthcare professionals. For every mask sold, a mask is donated. It has been 2 weeks and more than 400 masks have already been donated. PD anticipates many more donations in the coming weeks. "Performance Designs is part of the skydiving community, and we're also part of the local community as well. The opportunity to bring those two communities together in this endeavor has been great. Every little bit helps, and we want to do our part." - Albert Berchtold/Marketing Manager This week they have shipments of masks going across the US as well as Great Britain, France, Belgium, Sweden, Switzerland, and the Netherlands. Mask donations were provided to AdventHealth Foundation (Deland Hospital), Deland Police Department, and Deland Fire Department, as well as local assisted living facilities.

    Sabre2

The Sabre2 is a powerful semi-elliptical 9-cell canopy that is a great all-around choice for intermediate and experienced jumpers. Our most popular main canopy ever, the Sabre2 feels aggressive at higher wing loadings but is quite tame when lightly loaded. This canopy is best known for its powerful flare and wide speed range. With neat packing and proper deployment technique, Sabre2 openings are consistently soft and predictable. The Sabre2 has a steeper glide and a longer recovery arc than the flatter gliding Pulse or Stiletto and is an excellent choice for those wanting a bit more aggressive piloting experience but are not interested in the demands of the Katana or Velocity.
  9. You love your Valkyrie. You’ve been jumping her for the past two years. She gives you the buttery smooth openings, responsiveness, and power you crave! But you’re ready for more…and we’re ready to give it to you! Introducing the Hybrid Valkyrie – everything you love about the Valkyrie but more. We incorporated sail fabric into the ribs to give her more power, more responsiveness, and longer swoops than a standard construction Valkyrie. Think of her as a “Valkyrie on steroids” with more sensitivity in the harness and more stopping power than ever before. Available as an option when purchasing a custom wing, the sail ribs are a great addition for a seasoned or first-time Valkyrie owner. When choosing between the All ZP and Hybrid Valkyrie, keep in mind that the sail ribs will increase pack volume by about a half size in comparison to the All ZP Valkyrie. The overall lifespan of the canopy is similar to that of an all-ZP wing.

    Horizon

After years of development, we are excited to introduce PD’s first wingsuit-specific canopy HORIZON. The Horizon is a low-bulk 7-cell main canopy designed to be an easy ‘off button’ to end your wingsuit flight with as little drama as possible. The emphasis for developing this canopy was on eliminating deployment problems caused by the burble of larger wingsuits, without sacrificing a great flare or responsive handling. In fact, we think the Horizon has the best stopping power of any canopy in its class. Best of all, the Horizon gives you the ability to upsize as many as two full sizes compared to a non-crossbraced ZP canopy main, meaning you can fit a larger canopy in your existing rig for wingsuit jumps. No need for a new container!

    Proxy

Performance Designs is venturing into the world of BASE. PD BASE. Since 2000, Performance Designs has been building the Ace and Blackjack BASE canopies for Consolidated Rigging. Building on the legacy and great reputation of Consolidated Rigging's BASE canopies, PD is excited to introduce the Proxy. Our mission was to build the ideal canopy for wing suit BASE and alpine flying. We wanted something that was low volume, low weight and high performing. We went to great lengths to exceed your expectations of what a low volume BASE canopy can be. With over 30% less volume and 20% less weight than standard construction BASE canopies, jumpers who desire the lightest and lowest profile container will love the Proxy. Whether you're hiking up that mountain or flying that line, you'll notice the reduced weight and drag. The Proxy is also a great flying canopy, with good on heading performance, a truly excellent glide ratio and powerful flare.

    Storm CF

The CF Storm is similar to the Storm, but altered to meet the needs of the serious CF competitor or CF demo jumper. It offers a great speed range, solid handling (even when your dock may not be picture perfect), and a powerful flare. The CF Storm comes standard with a mesh slider, which in addition to other design changes, provides quick sub-terminal openings.

    Storm

With great openings and a powerful flare, the Storm is truly a 7-cell that thinks it's a 9-cell. While in some ways similar to the Spectre, the Storm has a shorter snivel, a steeper and faster glide, wider speed range, and more dynamic flare. Looking for a reliable canopy that will keep you challenged? Have you been searching for the perfect wingsuit canopy? Considering some occasional CF, but not ready to buy a second canopy? The Storm is a great option for you.

    Pulse

From openings to landings, the Pulse is stress-free fun. It is a lightly-elliptical 9-cell canopy designed for novice to experienced fun jumpers. Pack volume has been reduced significantly by combining PD’s proprietary low- bulk fabric technology on the bottom skin and ribs with zero porosity fabric on the top skin. The Pulse offers soft, consistently on-heading openings with a shorter snivel. It has a very flat glide, short recovery arc, and easy landings. It is highly responsive, very capable, and lots of fun to fly!
  15. The PD Reserve is PD’s best-selling canopy of all time, trusted by pilots all over the world. With its 25+ year track record, it is known for its responsive flight characteristics, predictable handling, excellent glide in brakes, and outstanding landings. Designed and built with every potential situation in mind, the PD Reserve was tested well beyond the maximum weight and speed limits required for TSO certification. If you want proven reliability, the PD Reserve is for you.

    Valkyrie

The Valkyrie builds on the dominating performance of the Peregrine and is designed as a step up from the Comp Velocity. Unlike the Peregrine, the Valkyrie was intended for freefall use, so the opening performance was a major consideration in the development of the canopy. And the openings on the Valkyrie are superb! Not to mention, it is simply a blast to fly. Whether you're filming tandems all day or dedicated to canopy piloting, the Valkyrie will reinvigorate the everyday jump and excite even the most passionate canopy pilots. We loved making it. You're going to love flying it.
  17. The Navigator offers an unparalleled combination of performance, forgiveness, and durability, while providing the ability to raise the level of student canopy piloting instruction. With its cutting edge design and construction, we are confident it will outperform any other student canopy and maintain this performance over a much longer life span. The Navigator, along with a progressive student canopy training program, will create safer and more competent canopy pilots.
  18. The lightly-tapered 9-cell Silhouette is designed to provide responsive handling, even at lower wing loadings often preferred by more conservative pilots. If you're looking for a docile, ‘no fuss’ canopy ride, the Silhouette is a great option for you. Due to the combination of fabrics used in the design, it is easy to pack, provides consistent openings with a short snivel, and has lots of flare power. It is best known for having a flat glide, short recovery arc, and easy-to-time flare. The Silhouette is a good choice for those seeking a canopy that is practical yet fun to fly.

    Katana

The Katana is a fully elliptical nine-cell canopy that is the ride of a lifetime for the experienced canopy pilot. Warning: This canopy is not for the faint of heart. Soft smooth openings, long control range, steep dive, light front riser pressure and a powerful flare make the Katana an excellent choice for those looking for the engine to push their limits. Whether you're considering an 83 or a 170 square foot wing, the Katana can provide the canopy enthusiast with the ride they are looking for now, and will continue to challenge their piloting skills for years to come.
  20. The Optimum Reserve is made from a 30 denier low-permeability, low-bulk fabric available exclusively from Performance Designs. We've combined this fabric with special aerodynamics and extensive reinforcing to create great strength, better performance, and a far smaller pack volume for a given size. The Optimums are rated for maximum exit weights ranging from 220 pounds to as much as 290 pounds! This reserve has successfully been drop-tested at weights and speeds considerably higher than those required for FAA certification according to TSO C23d, the highest standard to-date. The Optimum flies and lands far more like a main parachute with a more powerful flare, by a wide margin, than any reserve we have ever tried.
  21. The Vengeance is one of the first airlock sport parachutes on the market. This 9-cell, all zero porosity fabric, is a noticeable step up from the Stiletto with a longer control range, steeper dive, and faster turns.
  22. Built solely for canopy piloting competition, the Peregrine pushes the limits of what is possible in canopy flight. It is an ultra-high performance canopy, designed for top-tier competitive canopy pilots. Utilizing the Schuemann wing planform technology, new materials, and enhanced aerodynamics, PD created a wing that continues to dominate the podium.

    Sabre

The original PD Sabre, like its successor, was designed to be fun to fly, easy to land, and a great choice for those looking for a general-purpose canopy. Built with zero porosity fabric, the Sabre maintains its opening, flight, and landing characteristics over a much longer life span than the conventional low porosity canopies designed during its time. The Sabre provides consistent on-heading openings. At higher wing loadings, it exhibits more responsiveness to control inputs and additional speed, while at lower wing loadings, it provides a longer control range and more forgiveness..
  24. The PD 9-cell, the first product to be released by Performance Designs, was revolutionary in its day. At a time when main parachutes were simply intended to get a skydiver down to the ground, Bill Coe, founder of Performance Designs, believed the performance of Ram-air canopies could be vastly improved. The PD 9-cell raised the bar for all main parachutes; it provided superior flare power and more responsive flight characteristics than the average main.

    Stiletto

At the time of its release, the fully-elliptical 9-cell Stiletto was seen as the highest performance canopy available to the expert pilot. With improvements in canopy control technique over the years, the Stiletto has now become a very popular choice for experienced jumpers across many disciplines. For those who appreciate responsive handling, snappy turns, flat glide, a short recovery arc, and great landing capabilities, the Stiletto is a fun and practical way to enjoy your canopy flight.
