  1. That's what I was getting at when I said define assault rifle. People on one side hear that term used and immediately shut down the conversation. It is obvious (to me anyway) that what we are currently doing does not work. I would be for a gun registration The "title" to the gun follows it from owner to owner like a vehicle. A lot of people see this as the first step to confiscation but I don't believe that will ever happen.
  2. We need to define "assault weapons". Right now there is an iniative in the Florida Senate to ban military type weapons. "The measure would ban persons residing or entering the state from possessing military-style firearms. The measure would define military-style firearms as "any gun with a magazine capacity of more than seven rounds of ammunition or any weapon capable of firing in fully automatic mode, any weapon capable of being modified in any manner to fire in a fully automatic mode or any weapon classified as a sniper rifle." The definition is so broad it would ban pretty much every long gun. I think maybe a focus on high capacity magazines might be more effective and easier to pass.
  3. I agree with this. When I said control spending I am looking more at wasteful things. You know like tanks in a parade...
  4. Not sure what attitude you are talking about. I did not say not to fund any programs or we don't need research money. All I said was control spending. Look at where the money is going and make sure it is not being wasted. I can certainly see moving some of the military spending to other uses. How does not spending foolishly translate into scrap the Apollo program and don't build a nuclear bomb?
  5. you can say that as many times as you want but controlling costs stands alone for whatever reason you are doing it. controlling spending should be a motivator whether it is to increase your bottom line or save the tax payers money
  6. well you do own a Road Glide
  7. I honestly have no answer for you. I did what I thought was right and now I see it was not the best decision.
  8. I was thinking more controlling cost. That is a very important component to running a business.
  9. I agree with this. Also in the right setting. I have been know to use profanities but I am not about to do that in a business meeting or when my son was young in a parent teacher conference. I think the ability to turn it off and on is important. And then there is this https://www.sciencealert.com/swearing-is-a-sign-of-more-intelligence-not-less-say-scientists
  10. I would have thought the low unemployment rate would make it more of a workers market. When you have to compete with other businesses for employees benefits and salaries should go up.
  11. Rick

    RIP: Roy Batty

Blade Runner was a great movie. Rutger always was good in the villain roles. I had forgotten that he was in the True Blood series.. RIP
  12. My question is if they think they can impeach him why have they not done it yet??
  13. man I will be happy when life settles down some and I have time to get in the wind for several days
  14. One thing I have found is you can find a use Harley in great shape with low mileage. I bought the same bike last year with 16k miles for 18k. But It did not have the new bike smell. Are sports cars the same? A lot of people I would imagine buy then as second cars and not daily drivers so I wonder if you can find low mileage cars that are a couple of years old.
  15. That is right. I know the minimum wage is not sufficient for pretty much anyone that is trying to support themselves. But I think the $15 per hour is a big leap from there. I see a lot of discussion about "entry level jobs" or "jobs that are supposed to be for working teens". Not everyone has the intelligence or the ability to go to school to improve their lot and may end up stuck in those jobs for lack of better opportunities. I don't think they should be left to starve.
  16. We have 30 employees here at our company. I think we have only a handful that are under $15 per hour right now but we have a lot of skilled craftsmen that have spent there working life gaining the skills they need to work in our industry or the new guy we hired last year that just graduated form welding school. The guy that sweeps the floor is at $12 I believe. He also has no desire to learn any more skills or advance to any other position in the company. If he has no interest in taking advantage of better opportunities inside the company why should we be forced to pay him $15? I am curious where the $15 per hour came from in the first place. It's a nice round number but were is the research that shows that is where min wage should be?
  17. I used to be a major lurker. Or I guess I lurked here and posted in bonfire or events. I think reading here views on events as they happen may have given me a bit of a more rounded perspective. Yobnoc you are correct about the embarrassment when your realize you did not make the wisest choices and that can definitely make someone defensive. I think that is where a lot of the divisiveness we see in our country now may come from. If you get defensive enough from not admitting when you are wrong it can make you double down on the very thing you are wrong about. Ha I hope I explained that in a way you all can understand.
  18. sorry Joe I need to work on developing a thicker skin and not take things so personal. Bill I see where you are coming from now. I have tried recently to be more active on here so I can tell all you where I am coming from, and to try to understand other view points. For instance I have changed my position on the death penalty by reading what people on this forum have to say. Mark I hope that (yet) doesn't mean you are going to stop being my friend. :). Gowlerk I think the first thing that turned me away from Hillary is that we elected Bill. But it seemed that she immediately became a force in politics. Most other first ladies had there causes that they championed but it seemed she had more power than deserved. The 2 of them have made a good living out of being politicians and for some reason (I think Nigel hit on it) it turned me off that she took the power and ran with it and I did not see her doing it because she had the best interest of the country. I think she is mostly self serving. Having said that I can see how the media and not getting out of your bubble of friends that hold a certain opinion could cloud ones judgement . I hope this makes sense to you all. It would be so much easier if we were sitting in a bar over a beer and having this discussion.
  19. I wasn't mixing anything. 2 different issues. It's not your place to tell me what I meant. You can berate me all you want but my reasons are mine alone and I own them. If it makes you feel better tell me how stupid I am then carry on.
  20. a couple of examples: I saw how screwed up the VA was. I was not happy with everyone being forced to purchase health care from private companies or be fined for it. I thought someone who was not a career politician might be able to come up with better ways to do things or surround themselves with people that could find ways to use our tax money more efficiently. (edited to add) and yes even the money spent on the military
  21. well I did say I was wrong but that was my thinking at the time.
  22. I see so much waste of time/money with our government. I thought perhaps someone from the business sector may be able to get some of that under control.
  23. I agree wholeheartedly with this. I don't even think he needs to be baited anymore. He is always on the attack and his attacks are childish and racist. I wanted to see a change in the government. I thought maybe a political outsider might be a better option. I was wrong and I am embarrassed by the things he says.
  24. this sums it up for me that was a stupid thing to say
