  1. I have had 11 ortho surgeries and many broken bones not requiring surgery. One of the silliest was trying to show up to my buddies brother's daughters who just got back from gymnastics. I was walking around on my hands and then went into a massive "Worm" that I used to get great air on. At the end as I approached the wall I tried to "dismount" by swinging my feet underneath me. The whole room heard a crack as I busted and displaced my Major Toe. I know it is just a toe put it put me on crutches for a little bit and almost had surgery as I was worried about the way it healed affecting backwards barefooting. Turned out fine and the last time I backwards barefooted I went down and dislocated my shoulder severely causing all sorts of issues.(fractured Greater Tuberosity, Hill Sachs legion, torn labrum, slight tear to cuff, tendon and ligament damage.) That spot isn't bad at all, the winds were strong and that was the issue! It was just on the downwind side.
  2. Keep in mind that everyone is going to have a different altitude for going straight to a reserve based on A) Experience and B) What canopy they have for a main. I got in a pinch this weekend (a wee bit low, thats another story) and pitched my main below 2000' with a Velo 79 loaded at 2.7. As soon at I pitched, I thought...man maybe the reserve was a better option...which as murphy would have it, my velo came out with 3 line twists. Before it even fully inflated and started to spin it was gone and a reserve open about 1200'. For me, I don't know that opening a highly loaded canopy is a fun option below 2000'. And if you do, you better be on your A game with altitude awareness. Have fun, be safe. I agree with this and had a sub 500 reserve on a 72 when I opened below 2k due to a chain and had a brake fire spinning lines all the way to my neck in seconds. Due to massive harness shift and inability to find my reserve handle at first(used both hands to cutaway as I had no riser inserts and they were spun up hard) was under reserve below 500. And yes I foolishly took a second to get belly down again) But back to Sammielu... I you need to be in your comfort zone but your numbers need to be evaluated. Where I learned at a Cessna DZ we would chunk a 4 way from 3k (back when MCO was 2k) on low cloud ceiling days. Probably even turn a quick point or two on the hill. I remember sometime in my first year we had a 2k ceiling(give or take
  3. As it should be for you. As a single dad with a 9 year old son I used to always ask to make sure you put the damn seat back up!! I keep the bowl clean and a Cook real food and clean so the least I can ask when I am single is to put the DAMN seat back up when your done using it. But not in your place of course A Single person comment obviously and sorry for your current times but not overly sorry. Sounds like you were just filling a void knowing things were wrong and would have liked a more appropriate ending. Life does not always work that way. Were you secretly looking around also? Rhetorical question. I enjoy your posts and through the keyboard you seem genuine and real. The kind of person I would like to have as a friend. Looking forward to hearing about your better times. 4. Bright colors. Of my four cutaways only one had bright visible colors due to it being PD demo velocity colors. That particular one was also the largest amount of nylon at 79 sq/ft so I could have had that going for me as well..... but nfortunately it was a bag lock with all the stows in place so it nullified the former. I was sweating what PD was going to charge me on that one. I wouldn't over think it unless you are in a very bad wooded area and/or jump from bad spots routinely. It is rare they get lost. Work on packing and good habits of body position and that will go a long way to solve your problem until you get into high performance high loading stuff. 5. And here I thought my great instructer PrimeTime coined that phrase! That spot isn't bad at all, the winds were strong and that was the issue! It was just on the downwind side.
  6. I live in Wisconsin so it would not be much of an offer. Sorry. I was looking at a 206rb-3 head on ebay that no one bid on for like 3 autions straight in Texas. It was advertised poorly and the pic was from the back but I would have jumped on it if closer. I meant to mention it on here but did not want to steer a newbie wrong and also I do not see the 206 or 226 mentioned much here. I have found some deals on a 225 but I really want to have reverse. Good luck with your machine. Hard to ship one ecomomically. That spot isn't bad at all, the winds were strong and that was the issue! It was just on the downwind side.
  7. You came to the right place. I have been looking for a Consew 206 or 226 or singer walking foot deal to come along for along time and I look every day on Tempest with does a radius search. I have came close but you have to catch them right away. But I do not even know what I am doing yet. Leatherworkers.net is where I have learned most of what I know. I hope when I get one I have that talent to run it. Want to just to Boat seats and custom Covers and such. Excited for you. Good purchase!! 8. Fun Canopy especially for the TWY. I remember how shocked I was when I got one for my second canopy as to how responsive it was in toggles. And how flat I could fly it from a long spot. Took my 107 17 miles from 8.5 in very questionable conditions after a cowboy pilot took us up. Safe that your asking is a relative term. Low jump numbers is a relative term. I learned on a Manta 288. Got a used PD 190 a month later for my first gear. Then went to a Stiletto 107 for my next canopy with the money I saved when I couldn't jump for two months over that cold winter recovering from a tib/fib surgery. Good timing on that injury! But I was very current during that first learning year despite the two month layoff and jumped everything I could get my hands on from Jedies, Tomcats, Jonathons, Sabres during the six month transition period That spot isn't bad at all, the winds were strong and that was the issue! 9. ??? Is that why tractor trailer, dump trucks, ton'ers with dump box, cube vans, box vans, on and on have such a high accident rate?(they don't). Clearly you have not driven anything other that small passenger vehicles, never pulled and RV or any enclosed trailer. I always now who is behind me because I watch it unfold continuously. Is it really that amazing that anyone can navigate the grid with anything other that a Prius? Like a women backing up. Learn to use your effing side mirrors! Those that can't are the ones I worry about! And my tinted front windows on my explorer do suck. It messes with me backing up all the time at night if I do not roll them down That spot isn't bad at all, the winds were strong and that was the issue! It was just on the downwind side.
  10. I have busted my ankle with previous hardware in it. Out with the old in with the new. Not saying there could not be complications but just it certainly is not a forgone conclusion. Not at all. I currently have some screws and drill bits in that are broke that will never come out unless I were to break it through that area. The OP will not be leaving that hardware in though as it will irritate the hell out of him That spot isn't bad at all, the winds were strong and that was the issue! It was just on the downwind side.
  11. I have had three tib fractures that have needed surgery including one very similar to yours although the fib fracture was a little further from joint and was not as much of an issue although I did have pain from the hardware until having it removed. I broke a larger piece of the medial malleolus of which actually made it easier to fasten compared to yours as there was plenty of room to get screws right through the displaced piece. This was actually the least serious of my Tib fractures I have had and I recovered very quick. I had been in the sport for 6 months before this downtime and I was back to jumping in just under 8 weeks. On a positive not it was in the winter(middle of January) in Wisconsin so I did not miss much great jumping weather with cold and limited daylight and I was also able to save some cash for a different canopy and container while I was off. My DZ would not let me jump it though for 2 1/2 weeks as it was a a rather large downsize to a 107. No, actually I didn't resist that much and borrowed some gear to test my ankle and get current before playing with the new toy. I really never had many hard landings though so my concerns were much less than yours. But the bone was pretty much healed by that point. I do not know how much soft tissue damage you have done either. That spot isn't bad at all, the winds were strong and that was the issue! It was just on the downwind side.
  12. So after a month and a half my son was finally ordered to be returned to me from Texas. She has a week to do so. This is going to be very hard on my son as he is in school down there and doesn't understand what is going on. His mother fly's by the seat of her pants and does not even stay in one state for more than a year though. So sad That spot isn't bad at all, the winds were strong and that was the issue! 14. Wow. I would definitely take off work to go if I lived out there. Been along time since I have been out there and have been stuck skiing in the Midwest with very limited vertical. I would love to put my sticks on a real mountain. I have not been out there since 2002 and hated my skis the only day I didn't board(brought that with). I love the power of my Atomic GS skis and we just don't have the hills to put them to use here. Have fun and take pictures! That spot isn't bad at all, the winds were strong and that was the issue! 15. I watched this thread from the start and have done Beer Can Chicken for years. I still will for affect at times but have learned better. I did not read the article because I know who Meathead is very well and do not agree with plenty that spills out of his mouth. That said I am a smoking fanatic. I would love to be able to purchase food of the quality I smoke as it would be so much simpler. It just does not exist in my area with the exception of a local processing company that does beef sticks rivaling my best but still lacks the smoke flavor that a good home guy gets. Even in this thread there is a prepped chicken with limited rub. Hell I use more rub on my chicken under the skin. Yes I massage the rub under the skin. Open it up wherever I can. Stuff the neck, ect. Anyway. Do not post a blog from Meathead as a formal source. The dude is not the final word on anything and half the shit he says is highly questionable. In short, he is full of himself. That said, I have been accused of the same That spot isn't bad at all, the winds were strong and that was the issue! It was just on the downwind side.
  16. 500 jumps? So many changing attitudes. I remember when I first started jumping I bought a Sharpchuter 244 to use for BASE(I never did use it) but the placard on it said something like "this is a high performance ram air canopy, it is required(recommended?) to have a minimum of 500 skydives before jumping this canopy" or so forth. Then I was at a boogie and they had a round you could jump. I have never jumped a round but I thought it was funny that they required a minimum of 500 jumps in order to jump the round! Now isn't that a reversal. My first WFFC I had 11 months of jumping under my belt and was very current with only a 2 month layoff since FJC for surgery on a broken tib. PD let me demo their Velocity that had just came out that year. Now coming from a Cessna DZ and suddenly being surrounded by tons of jumpers with questionable spots on a ground hungry canopy was too much and a very dumb decision but still I was allowed to do it. Loved the canopy but realized on the second jump that I needed to go back to my own canopy. Again I would never approve of this and should not have even said it but it shows how times have changed. The next year Brian sent me a demo 95 Samurai with no hassle. And yet here we are years later with better piloting knowledge to pass on by more people, more canopy classes that were almost unheard of back then, yet people are frapping themselves in at even a higher rate with even more jumps and as a result we have another 500 jump limit to jump even a lightly loaded "elliptical" canopy. It's nuts. Stop killing yourselves and busting yourselves up people. You are Ruining it for others! That spot isn't bad at all, the winds were strong and that was the issue! 17. WOW! Glad I don't live in your neck of the woods. Most of that list is a joke. Receiving packages? I do have a case of wine coming Monday that I may have to prove I am 21 but I doubt it. I routinely get packages from DHL, Fed Ex, USPS, UPS and never show an ID(heck the deliver MEK, MEKP, acetone whatever I order. Some has special handling fees) Have not shown an ID in many years getting my Fishing and Hunting licenses. Nor buying paint(I buy lots of) or anything. 21. http://www.storyleak.com/cop-pulls-gun-elementary-school-kids-building-tree-fort/ No shots fired here but still appalling. Maybe this was on here when it happened. If so sorry. 22. LOL. Pulling stitches sounds like no fun right now. I am making my world famous Chili at the moment. I come to the gear and rigging forum mainly hoping for sewing threads. I am wanting to get into sewing Vinyl and Canvas for the marine and RV industry as well as make some personal use BASE containers as my skill increases. Looking for a 206rb or maybe even a sailrite to get started but funds are low. Funny when I search google on particular machines the dz.com forum is one of the few forum hits. The other is leatherworker.net. There does not seem to be a lot of recourses for an eager mind like mine. I just need to get a machine and see if I can figure it out and if it is for me. Speaking of the analogy. On a motorcycle you only have so much adjustment and that adjustment affects handling for the more experienced/demanding riders. I have played with chain length/gearing to adjust my wheel base depending on the machine when I was competing at a high level and was particular. Happy Stitch ripping. I need to go to the store and get a heavy porter or other beer to thin my Chili as I simmer it for hours That spot isn't bad at all, the winds were strong and that was the issue! 23. Actually the main reason people usually put small countershaft sprockets on are because they are cheap. With a few exceptions I would almost always prefer to gear with the rear. A lot more expensive but much less stress on the front sprocket, swing-arm clearance issues, ect. Of course you need to go up about three depending on g/r to get the same and eventually can run into guide issues back there if you are trying to gear sport bikes for stunt riding which in that case longevity is a non issue. But for the most part I prefer to go up with the back. Now I have went up on the front when I used to have a natural MX track on the bottom of a frozen drained lake right in front of my house. Why? Because I was cheap and was basically destroying my bike anyway with massively hard landings. I still feel bad I sold some of those bikes for as much as I did. Sorry for thread shift. 24. If I have time I will find them. I remember them but it is sifting through thousands of posts. I have a major sleeping issue however so there are times that I have nothing better to do in the middle of the night. The repetitive post do remind me of my elementary school kids nasty classmate. 25. Wow. Don't know the details but probably should not have said that given the current climate. If only the precogs would have told her That spot isn't bad at all, the winds were strong and that was the issue! It was just on the downwind side.
