  1. I thought so as well, it is at least stated by Aviacom that they are still allowed in Mirage, Wings, Dolphin, Racer, Infinity, Next and Basik.

I have an Argus in one of my two Wings containers, and honestly I really enjoy the datalogging features - it is used for more than just an emergency device.

True you cannot buy them new anymore, but I assumed that OP was going to be looking for something used - and the Argus is extremely available and inexpensive in the used gear market, fitting what he asked for if his container is compatible.

  2. Depending on your container, an Argus might fit your description.

The issues with the Argus AAD involved containers where the cutter was mounted on a reserve flap (Icon, Vector, etc) - and in at least one case ended up locking the reserve shut.

This can't happen when the cutter is mounted at the bottom of the reserve container (Wings, Javelin, etc). In the rare instance where it doesn't completely cut the loop, the reserve will still work manually - it will act like there is no AAD installed.

Current going rate is ~$400 for a new-ish Argus. I am relatively new to the sport, however, so please do your own research (and check where your cutter mounts) before deciding.

  3. I feel your pain - there is a strong emotional connection to your first car. Dang they are hard to let go of!

Years after moving on, I bought an identical car to my first - an '82 Datsun Z-car. Man that car was great when I was a teenager, but the 2nd one just wasn't the same.

Sometimes it is best to just remember your first car as the awesome machine it was when you were 16!

  4. +1 to the sleep paralysis comments. It is really scary until you learn to recognize when it is happening.

It is most likely to happen while sleeping on your back, if this is how you sleep maybe try sleeping on your side or your stomach.

I heard that this is a desirable scenario on rigs. Use some extraction friction, so that the two-out is avoided, and you just keep reserve PC-in-tow, while flying the main canopy. What is wrong with that (assuming that a slightly higher speed would deploy the reserve, like after the cutaway)?

We were glad it didn't come out! It was certainly desirable in this case.

The Argus & Racer were both mentioned, so I was just pointing out that I've seen other brands behave the same way.

in this video during his jump, what the hell is he pulling on? He doesn't seem to use toggles, is it front risers and if so why?

He's jumping a giant 7-cell accuracy canopy, I believe it's a Jalbert Parafoil (or something similar, please correct me if someone knows differently).

Accuracy canopies fly VERY differently from typical sport canopies, and are designed to land on a very small target, as he does at the end of the video. They aren't designed to dive, and the easiest way to put them in a steep dive is by pulling down on an outside front suspension line. We use this trick to build accuracy stacks at my DZ.

It's not necessary on a typical sport canopy.

Edited again to add: It's a Flight Concepts Demo 7-Cell.

My wifes friend did a balloon ride with this crazy dude --link-- and he said he was going to let me jump but I never did.

You might want to take down that link, balloon pilots with a living to make from it, probably do not want to be mentioned in the same breath as illegal balloon jumps on an open forum, especially when it didnt even happen.

NB: I am thinking from a UK perspective, however I am sure the US has similar rules and regulation.

He can't, now. You quoted it :P

Check a vidoes on U-tube about a FLAT packing, all reserves are flat packed, all reserves are 7-cells, the difference is on a pilot chutes and a special tools requiered for different rigs, but flat packing is all the same... Also, if U wanna do it yourself, U may wanna go to a riggers course and learn it... My friend just did it and I may be going someday as well...
    C U around a DZ...

I don't know much, but I know this is wrong. There are 5, 7, and 9 cell reserves, as well as rounds. Many (if not most) reserves are essentially pro-packed. And not all flat-packs are the same.

  9. Rick took great care of me. He answered the dozens of questions I had, and accommodated a few special requests at no charge. Nothing but A+ customer service and friendly communication regarding the status of my order.

Sorry to hear your experience is different.
