  2. hey peanut, caught your earlier post on the introductions page, but think it got cut off. i've done 4 jumps, last was 2 weeks ago, my 2nd dp - but on my 3rd i lost radio contact and came in downwind approach to dz - bad, i came in fast and to make matters worse i flared 20ft too early - that jump nearly ended my jumping career. yes it hurt, i held the flare all the way down and went head over heels with a lovely tuft of grass poking out of my helment - but more than that, it was the not having control to bring her in smooth that nearly did me in pschologically. My last jump, i held on after the first/second flare call on the radio then pulled to feet and landed on feet. If it wasn't for that I would've given it up. I wear glasses as i'm short sighted, but noticed on the last landing i could see the grass properly and only then pulled for my life. Don't know if i can repeat that but think i can - if i hold for a little bit longer I hope this helps in that you are not alone in the feeling that the ride is good but the landing is not worth the thrill Follow the momentum, however, some things are choosen for us
  3. I'm jumping in here.. I've had a similar experience as the GF that paulca mentioned "I don't remember getting the gear check" 1. You are all right in saying "ask the instructor" but when you are terrified within an inch of your life AND it is part of the training to ask for a gear check - at that point in time one "me" is depending on my instructor to instruct me, I lack the ability to request a gear check - I put my abosolute trust in the instructors that they do what they need to do.. now on to 2. I should ask - but what if I don't know what to ask? this is why I am here and paulca is here is to get some fruitful advice on what to do when.. its good guidance on asking for this and that, but thats ok when you have some idea about what you are doing - 1st and 2nd jumps I think are the responisibilty of the instructor, an assumption on my part, even though we have decided that we want to conduct some crazy jumps from a plane (can't say its a perfectly good plane cuz its not) 3. On my 3rd jump my radio did not work and I brought myself in (downstream, so it was a hard landing) but I hit the right dz, so at some point I must have picked something up from the training. My point is that we can't collect all the info from one 6hr training and the natural reaction to jumping out of a plane may for most people constrain thier logical abilities Hence, why I would view dz.com as a source of info to guide me and anyone else to learn what to ask and when etc. All I would ask, so I can learn from this post, is that I'm not frightened to post here cuz the response will be "ask the instructor" cuz I will do that - but that any supplemental info from other peoples experince is passed onto me. Now, back onto the original post - what to do if.. I take it its ok to pester the instructors (even when they are flat out on multiple jump plans) to check this and that yeah? 4. Hey, I'm jumping in the UK, but I've had opportunity to do more than one jump per day and had the weather for sat/sun jumps. Seems I do one, go away and evaluate the last jump till I feel confident enough to do my next one. My last jump was 2 weekends ago, I'm now on the 3rd dp and 1st ff - and feel now that I could handle this this coming weekend, though 2 in one day makes me a bit nervous. i just read a post about a guy who did his first throw out and it wrapped around his arm cuz it went forward and not out to the side... hmm, I can wait another week to psych myself up Follow the momentum, however, some things are choosen for us
  5. My focus for the next jump is to count my breaths in and out whilst waiting on the cut and feet out - I'm hoping that this is supposed to be part of the fun?? I will try to relax more on the ground first though and try to visualise my jump end-to-end... Follow the momentum, however, some things are choosen for us
  6. Not quite as exciting as... Some other jumps here but for a 4th time jumper (or I should say SL slider out of the door person) I had to watch as a first timer hesititated at the door at 3,500 feet (he was no1 I was no2) - he kept staring and pleading with me with his feet out the door - he then wanted to come back in.... As he swivelled at the door to get back in the door he fell out! I was terrified - I sat the turn till the next cut and waited for "No2 feet out" from dispatcher - I've been afraid to put my feet out the door ever since (that happened on my 2nd jump) and I've done my 4th last week but hate that bit As I type this, I get a bad taste in my mouth - otherwise, once I'm out the door I'm ok and needless to say, he will never jump again. I know theres no getting over this but a problem shared... Follow the momentum, however, some things are choosen for us
  7. Four jumps till date 1. Don't remember jumping but fell nice until I hit the ground 2. I know I jumped but landed well 3. Scardy jump from plane with 1st dp, nice canopy ride with NO RADIO to talk me in, I came in downwind but landed in the right field from ~ 20Feet straight down, that really hurt and was nearly my last jump 4. Perfect, remembered seeing the plane as I did my 2nd dp, and perfect landing (hope I can do this again!) 5. Yet to happen as it will be my 3rd dp and 1st ff - oh furk - I'm concentrating only on the 3rd dp and not getting into ff focus till I complete the 3rd dp and all within 24hrs - how is this possible, I haven't jumped twice in one day, theres always a few weeks inbetween jumps Overall, my arch is good but not strong, and I get real scared putting my feet out the door and had a few panic attacks when the open door cess 205 banked at 180 degrees! Thought I was gonna fall out several times. Once I'm out I'm grand So going out the door and holding my nerve before flaring are my two elephants in the room, otherwise I'm totally into this :) So I'll hang out here and get some words of wisdom on how to hold my nerve and really start to enjoy myself (which I'm not at the mo) Cheers!
