  1. I remember the skydiving tattoo of Calvin and Hobbs. It's been a few years.
  2. I remember being a jumppilot flying 182's in 1990-94 for 2.00/load. Then 95-96 at a different DZ for 5.00/load. Of course, jump tickets were 9-10/load and gas was cheaper, and I was doing ti for the hours, etc, but there were plenty of summer days of 18 or 19 loads per day in a cessna... Its good to see pilots getting a little better pay... :)
  3. If you are in the Kansas City MO area or within driving distance, we are trying to fill our last plane load of jumpers on Sunday Aug 26. We are working with Kevin at www.halojumper.com to bring High altitude jumps to Skydive Kansas City for this one time event. Guarenteed 28,000 feet of altitude, with a goal of 30k. over 2 mins of freefall time... 375.00 for 1 jump that includes: a HGU 55/P ballistic helmet, MBU 12 Oxygen Mask, Tactical Goggles, Airox VIII O2 regulator, Twin 53 or Twin 22 bailout bottle assemblies, Flight suit and gloves, and High Altitude Altimeters. If you want the entire special operations package a MC-4 or 5 Halo/Haho parachute rig (if desired) is offered at an additional charge. You will even get a loner wrist mounted GoPro to use. We have a deadline of just under 2 weeks to get 7 more paid jumpers to make this happen. If you want to go and can pay in the next few days, email me at [email protected] and I'll confirm your slot and give you the payment info (FYI- you are paying kevin directly at halojumper.com, not me)... 100 jump minimum, AAD required (if you dont have an AAD on your rig, LMK and we do our best to find you a loner rig.
  4. anyway to override it and keep it in the 10.5 mode full time? or will the altimeter mode still show 4 digits under canopy (not as big of a deal to me)? Why would you want less data under canopy as opposed to more? Just curious. cause I like the big numbers on the current one I have but I figured there was somethig that offered the same thing, but just newer. If you are adding 1-2 more numbers to the display, then the numbers have to start gettign smaller. Call old school or just old, but when did we start needing to know the exact altitide to make our pattern turns at? did this start with hook turns? Am I at "0.7" altitude or 651ft? Am I at 0.6 altitude or 649ft? I'm just not seeing where this exact knowledge/detail is needed/necessary. Are people using the feet markings to flare?? j/k

  6. you will never be able to predict or stop the initial random act of violence. you can only hope that someone can stop the threat after it starts. If it wasnt a gun, it would be the same person using a car to ram a crowded sidewalk, etc. Society, movies, lack of pariental guidence, or just plain random, these things will always take place..

  8. Just put it on Alti mode during the climb and dont touch it. It will stay in that display the entire time until you change it back. Also, you can disable logbook and functions like that. Thanks! Do the Nep 2's, 3's display just the thousands/hundreds for altitude mode?
  9. I'm looking for a digital altimeter but with specific wants: It only displays the altitude in thousands/hundreds. I dont want the feet, (I want the altitude of 10,500 to display as 10.5). I dont need extras suck as logbook and dont want an "airplane" mode that displays other things, etc, just a plain altimeter that shows 0.0 at take off, 5.0 at 5000ft and 14.0 at exit altitude, etc. I currently have one of the older Digitudes and was looking for something that does the same thing (and only that), but just a little smaller and newer. Visio- shows the feet neptune 2,3- has all the extras. is thewre a way to turn off the other "modes" and just have the altitude displayed full time? other options?
  10. +1... He was trained by two of the best diverdrivers to work the sky.... scottMO
  11. Chad flew in from the east coast and either didn't have his own gear or didn't bring it. Everone else jumped their own gear.
  12. For those asking abt rw and free flying; our group of seven did try a group of 5 and a 2 way. I was #6 out of the plane with my 2 way partner right behind me. You were not allowed to launch a formation and ghe exit was all 7 of us, single file and out the door as fast as we could. All 7 of us were out the door easily in 2-3 seconds, but the seperation was still huge. I was 250lbs+ with gear and wanted to maximize my freefall so I exited, rotated into the wind to video my two way buddy. He never got down to me. The attempted 5 way did get 3 people together at 6k agl.. Idk abt head down halos as you have a helmet. O2 bottle (waist or leg mounted) o2 mask/hose and goggles, some of which may shift locations if head down??
  13. I recently did a halo jump in sept 2011 with Kevin at halojumper.com, just outside of memphis TN. Ive done a few 21k skydives before but this was always on my bucket list. Training, all equipment, certificate, and free tshirt were all included for under 400.00 ( no alt chamber requirement).. It was a short 7hr drive and me and a buddy split the gas and hotel, so total cost was 650.00 or so. Kevin also gave each one of us a go pro to wear, no charge.. I had the angle all wrong on my wrist mount so the angle is a little off. Search Scott Corder on YouTube for my video. Also search chad morris on YouTube. It was his 40th jump and his video is excellent. Exit temp was -29 degrees, exit alt was 29,700.. Over 2 min of free fall time. Years ago, I had thought abt traveling and getting the altitude chamber cert, flying to CA, car rental, etc. back then, I was 500.00 or so, which also included a lower altitude jump with all the gear. The total cost for that would have been 1300.00 or so.
  14. After a 13 year layoff from the sport, I was looking to get my "knees in the breeze" once again. Alot had changed during my layoff but from the point I arrived, everyone was great. Staff was friendly and they got me back up to speed that same day. A few jumps later and I was jumping out of a KingAir, something I had only prev been able to do at a large boogie. Now it's an everyday occurance.
  15. Yep, started jumping in 1991 and got my D in 1994? 95? 96?
  16. No offense intended on the "POS reserve" comment..
  17. ok, cutting away my good main, to use my reserve as the primary (and have a POS belly reserve as a back up), isnt gonna happen... I'll be happy if I never see my reserve, ever.. Is there any way to deploy the belly mount quickly and chop it, then you still have your normal gear? This really sounds like the the best option: That bit about "trashbag something..." and "fly that for a bit" means, contain a shitty parachute in a trashbag (or something) as a safety measure. Egress the aircraft and toss the bag. The parachute might inflate. If it does, fly the shitty parachute for a bit and then chop it. If it doesn't, chop the mess.
  18. hmm. so how do I keep the harness/trashback from overlapping my normal rig? I guess my options are: 1. 2nd harness/trashbag 2. pack crappier and wait 3. track down a specific "cutaway rig" near Missouri.. not really thrilled w/any of the 3 options.. it's quite simple. your empty harness (a BASE container in my case) has nothing in it, so is slack, see the pic before boarding hmmm. ok, the pics are definately helping. did you basically just chop the trashbag (w/the parachute in it?) or chop a full main??
  19. hmm. so how do I keep the harness/trashback from overlapping my normal rig or keeping my normal rig from overlapping the 3 rings of the one I intend to cut away? I guess my options are: 1. 2nd harness/trashbag 2. pack crappier and wait 3. track down a specific "cutaway rig" near Missouri.. not really thrilled w/any of the 3 options..
  20. I have my eye on a tamdem rating in the distant future and in reading the requirements for a tandem rating, I must have: Strong Enterprises Pre-requisites from http://strongparachutes.com/Documents/PDF_Files/Tandemprerequisites.pdf 1. Minimum of 18 years of age. 2. 50 jumps within the last year. 3. Jumpmaster or Instructor rating, or the Basic Instructor Course (BIC), or coach. 4. One intentional or emergency cut-a-way. So, luckily, I have never had a cutaway (yet), but with that said, I now have to strap on a belly mount, jump it, and cut it away? (cause I know they dont mean an intentional cutaway from a good main to the only remaining reserve, right??)
  21. FB 4074. I got mine in 1997/98 at skydive Chicago?? This brings back alot of memories..
  22. I see that I'm not alone. Here is mine: I've had skydiving dreams in the past but I had one Sun night that was very different. I threw out at normal altitude and had a bag lock or some sort of malfunction. cut away and pulled the reserve. It only partiall opened and tangled with a main that was already cut away. I fought it all the way to treetop level but then it fully opened. I sat there and walked away from it. At this point, I was now wide awake in my bed, heart beating strongly, 30 min before the alarm was to go off to get up. I stayed awake the next 30 min and the rest of the day was uneventful. I havent jumped since then but feel slightly apprehensive abt the next one and I know I shouldnt. I know it was just a dream, but it seemed so real.. scottMO
