  1. How to have a full DZ group after you if you start dating that girl. Dealing with 1 father/brother is already hard enough. Having 50... uhh no thanks! Avikus - Packer and Jumper - Hate landing with the plane!
  2. This is by far, the best post of the day! Avikus - Packer and Jumper - Hate landing with the plane!
  3. As long as she doesn't get the "OMG they are heroes and saved my life" syndrome and smart about it, she'll be fine! Worst case, whisper "She's 15" at guys that flirt with her! Avikus - Packer and Jumper - Hate landing with the plane!
  4. My First solo was a very late sunset jump, limit night jump! I got back from the beer store with my 24 (tradition of graduating) and next thing I know I got a parachute on my back and I'm in a plane. I didn't really have time to that I was going to do my very first alone solo jump. Come to think of it, I think I never saw it as "HOLY SH!T! MY FIRST JUMP!" since I was quickly thrown into it. I just stay relax and had an amazing time ... alone ... Did turn and looked at the city and the sunset! Was Great! Avikus - Packer and Jumper - Hate landing with the plane!
  5. Perfect example of being focus on what on top of you then under you. I see tracking similar to skiing. Does the person down a ski hill look behind him before making a turn? No. The one coming down the hill behind him is the one that has to make sure he doesn't crash on the guy bellow him. And this goes on and on with everyone in the ski hill. If everyone focus on below them and make sure they track in a clear direction, then barrel roll shouldn't even be mentioned. Avikus - Packer and Jumper - Hate landing with the plane!
  6. I have a Drift Ghost HD with my G3 helmet. I put it at the very top and be able to open my visor @ 3/4 opening. I'm really happy with it and get some decent views on the 2 jumps I did with it (Home DZ also require 200 jumps). It's decent size and not heavy and comes with a remote bracelet. Check it out! 7. I had mine at #76. Glad I did it early. Line over... savable? Probably but I didn't know how to fix a small line over. I'm happy with it cause I kept my calm and just was like "Oh well ... let's do this" instead of freaking out! Avikus - Packer and Jumper - Hate landing with the plane!
  8. Well in this case it was pure belly jump :P I can do a good barrel roll, but like time I've check, I don't do it slow enough to realize what is around me ... all I see is earth, sky, earth! :P Avikus - Packer and Jumper - Hate landing with the plane!
  9. I had a formation load with 2 plane (9 way out of 2 Cessna! HARDCORE!!! ;) ) and during my tracking, when I reached 3500 I waved twice in big movement... then wait 2-3 sec. as I always do in every jump even if it's a 2 way. When I landed, a fellow jumper told me that she was right on top of me (since the fomartion was a bust) and that she clearly saw my wave. Now there is two thing I took from that when you think about barrel roll. 1) If you do a barrel roll, you will think about it and only have 0.5 to 1 second to look over you... is that really enough time? Maybe miss what is under you. 2) If you do a big clear wave and wait 2 second.. the person over you will have a clear view and time to track elsewhere or pull him/herself. My 2 cents Avikus - Packer and Jumper - Hate landing with the plane!
  10. As strange as it sounds, put Dryer Sheets in your pocket. Something about it keep the bugs away! Works for me every weekend! Avikus - Packer and Jumper - Hate landing with the plane!
  11. HAHAH! I'm crying! Avikus - Packer and Jumper - Hate landing with the plane!
  12. Isn't there a 600$ all you can jump somewhere in the states going on for July? :P Avikus - Packer and Jumper - Hate landing with the plane!
  13. Bha I really need to read the whole story! Avikus - Packer and Jumper - Hate landing with the plane!
  14. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/life/the-hot-button/new-gamers-cant-beat-first-level-of-original-super-mario-game-nintendo-boss-says/article13100742/ To sum in up : The rub: 90 per cent of participants in a test couldn’t finish the first level on the original Super Mario Bros. game on the Nintendo Entertainment System. “We watched the replay videos of how the gamers performed and saw that many did not understand simple concepts like bottomless pits,” he was translated as saying. “Around 70 per cent died to [sic] the first Goomba. Another 50 per cent died twice. Many thought the coins were enemies and tried to avoid them. Also, most of them did not use the run button. There were many other depressing things we noted but I cannot remember them at the moment.” Mind Blown!!!! Avikus - Packer and Jumper - Hate landing with the plane!
  15. I don't really care if someone commit or not. I just see it as another person to hang out with. So the more that "commit" the more people we can jump with. And commit in my mind is being current tru the year. I don't necessarily mean being there every weekend. Avikus - Packer and Jumper - Hate landing with the plane!
  16. The short termer's ask questions to validate their own level of commitment in the sport/hobby. When you stop caring what others think of you... You have arrived. Easy, I was just curious on what you guys thought on the subject. I'm more than happy that a lot of people try it. I'm also aware that it's not for everyone. The more people try it, the better the chance of having more people commit to the sport. For myself I stopped caring what people thought of me when I sign up to do the Solo, alone. I did it for myself and not for anyone else I still stick to that train of thought! I'll show up to a new drop zone alone and just jump since I've always done this for myself, tho might be boring after a while ;) Edit: to jump alone :P Avikus - Packer and Jumper - Hate landing with the plane!
  17. Bingo... Avikus - Packer and Jumper - Hate landing with the plane!
  18. but I'm sure after 1 test jump, your video weren't just blue sky and (hopefully) white clouds with hands wave in front of the camera! But that's another subject... And yes, Canadian invade other country to steal beer! True Fact! Avikus - Packer and Jumper - Hate landing with the plane!
  19. That I cannot agree more with! It's the same kind of people that wanna jump with a camera ... alone ... that has 23 jumps... Avikus - Packer and Jumper - Hate landing with the plane!
  20. Hmm I mostly see those who barely get tru their solo, because of time, never seems to come back. Also, those that don't seem to want or have to motivation to try new things or too afraid to do so. Also the one that don't socialize as easily. Avikus - Packer and Jumper - Hate landing with the plane!
  21. As some of us were stuck in the packing mat this weekend we started talking about random stuff. One of the subject was the Short Term Skydivers... Those people that come in, do their solo course ... make 5 jumps a "poof" never to be seen again. Even tho I still consider myself fairly "new" (compare to others who have decades in the sports), I started to see signs of "Short Term Skydivers". What Sign did you guys noticed? Avikus - Packer and Jumper - Hate landing with the plane!
  22. Karen, you just made my day! I did the IAD program too ... when that Cessna door open and the instructor looks at you and loud "GO!" ... all I wanted to do what to give him a big 1 finger salute and stay in the plane... but I... We did it! We suck it up and got outside that plane. Hold on to the strut and let go... I did 6 jump on my first day... I wanted to stop at 5 (first opening after the paper toss) but they needed people to fill the plane... I should have listen to my guts. So the 6th jump was the 5 second delay. Tired and beat I went up in the plane ... was nervous (more from fatigue than anything else) and when it was my turn I climb out, look at the instructor and let go... that 5 second turned into flips and a view of earth, sky, earth, sky and me freaking out and pulling. Luckily I open at a perfect moment a was under canopy in a good fashion. That jump made me ask myself that same question that you ask yourself. Is this for me. I told myself no for a full week. Then I just said F it and got back to it... and am I glad I did! I couldn't even imagine missing all the experience I got since. All the friends I made... the trips to Zhill during the holidays. Wow! What a waste it would have been! And since then, I got the same mentality. Either with RW stuff, sit flying. If at first I don't succeed, work on it. It will only make you more proud of your accomplishment if you know you had trouble at one point. Avikus - Packer and Jumper - Hate landing with the plane!
  23. I have a theory that we all got/will get that one jump that makes you think "Is this for me?". Mine was at jump #6 when I did a bad jump during my solo progression... was scared for a full week (trouble sleeping and all that) I didn't go back to finish my course... till 7 days later. I sucked it up and gave it one more chance and I'm still jumping 2 seasons later. Maybe that 2nd tandem what "that" jump for you. If it was, great! It will only go uphill from now on. But remember that when you are gonna do your AFF, you will be in control but also won't be alone (If that make sense). During a tandem when you realize how high you are or when you have to open, your focus changes from having fun to having to open your parachute. That might have been what your serious face was all about. You just stop focusing on the free fall and focused on the opening to come. As stupid as it sounds, if you have to remember 1 thing that will help you skydive is this: Breath! When I got told to take 3 deep breath before exiting the plane. Stupid right? It changed everything! Made me more relax which made me more aware which help me make quicker decisions. Which will help you do the same things! I say don't over think it. The AFF Instructor won't make you jump if you cannot handle it. Being nervous is good... And hanging out at the DZ when you have a free afternoon and start to have a good relationship around the Drop Zone will make you feel comfortable when time comes to do the course. 24. Ok I skip most of the thread cause you guys talk way to much ... but I love it so keep it up! As a packer I wanna say a few things. First, Thank you! Thanks for the business and the tips. Both are Very Welcomed! Tips on hot day are usually used to buy a case of beer then spread among people so your tips are usually given back into beer form (for myself). 2nd, scr3w you! Packing suck :D 3rd, tip are not necessary IMO. Especially when we have a lot of tandem in front of you, sorry but you might not be our priorities. But when we have some slacks, I will usually pack for you when ask, just don't expect to be serve in a quick fashion. So for that, it's okay if you don't tip if you wait a while before having your rig pack. 4th, If you get a reserve ride, and it's my fault (BODY POSITION!!!!), pack job is free but that the extent of it! Happens to the best of us (Happen once that my pack job had a malfonction, 1 was my own rig, 2nd was the kill line that broke on a tandem so out of my control since it happen in flight) So yeah! That's it! Avikus - Packer and Jumper - Hate landing with the plane!
  25. Ok, that's what I (didn't) wanted to hear. Thanks. It's quite scary when you look at it because the dropzone I jump at they ask almost all solo to sign up to USPA because it's "easier". EDIT: I don't know how to write... sozzy! Avikus - Packer and Jumper - Hate landing with the plane!
