  1. Technically it's finals week for me, but I don't have any actual classes -- I just do research now. But I still hate finals week because it means my research assistants won't be in the lab since they have finals all week. Next year I'll be teaching again so finals week will once again mean more work for me. Good luck with your exams!
  2. That's an even better idea. I should have thought of that.
  3. Hmmm... suddenly feeling a little depressed. Maybe I need a "prescription." But actually, that's really interesting. I think I'll look up the research.
  4. I have really small hands too. I've always worn mine on three fingers and it's been fine. But the smaller loop sounds like a good idea if it bothers you.

    Finding happy?

+1 Happiness is all in the attitude. Life doesn't have to be perfect to rock.

Shah you need to branch out. If everyone around you is old then go across town or to the next town. Where I take yoga and where I dance, it's primarily people in their 20's and 30's, I'm one of the oldest people there. The point is sometimes trying something new is fun and can help to break you out of a rut. Dance may not be your thing but there may be something else that is.

Sorry you don't like my suggestion to try something new and find something you enjoy doing.

I know, just trying to be helpful. Not sure why since I hate whiny people.

Shah, you’re in a rut and you need to do something different. I don’t know you but I suggest taking a dance class. Seriously. Ballroom, swing, salsa – social dances, not zumba. It’s a great way to meet people, get exercise, and have fun. I personally prefer swing/lindy hop because I love the music but salsa or ballroom are also fun. In a social dance class you rotate partners which means you get to dance with every girl in the class. Most places have practice session and/or dance events. You don’t have to be an amazing dancer, learn to lead well and you will have pretty girls asking you to twirl them around the dance floor. There tends to be more women than men so you’ll be in demand. It may put a smile on your face at least temporarily. As far as your housing situation goes, you may have to suck it up. It can’t possibly be that bad and your life doesn’t have to revolve around where you live. Go out and do something that makes you smile, whatever that may be, try something new.

I agree with everyone about getting outside. I was feeling down for a few weeks after ski season ended and I realized it was because I was cooped up inside everyday after skiing 2-3 days a week all season. I needed sunshine. On the rare days that it's not raining now, I go outside and run or take my daughter to the park. Makes all the difference.
  11. Hey what's wrong with Star Trek, I love Star Trek. Wait, I don't have any dates, maybe I shouldn't mention that I like Star Trek. Girls like nerds but I'm not sure that guys like nerdy girls.
  12. She's so cute! Postcard from Indiana is on the way!
  13. Does she have Indiana yet? I can send one out in the morning.
  14. Only 20 dead women, no big deal. If I remember my history correctly there were witch trials in Europe prior to Salem. I imagine the head count is much higher. Certainly not comparable to the Holocaust but not so trivial that it doesn't matter. Must have been a very difficult time for women. At any given time you could be dragged off and burned at the stake. If you had daughters they might as well burn them too, since they're probably witches too. Just one of many examples of the wonderful events in history in which religion has played a role. Religion has never been particularly kind to women, this is just one the the more violent examples.
  15. I think it's pretty common to have a range of wingloadings even within groups of similar experience. Some people want a fast canopy and others prefer something more docile. I have about a 1.12 loading on a 120. Since I'm never going to have a 1.4 or 1.5 loading I'd be eternally limited to jumping with newbies or trying to find other small women to jump with. Anyway, I agree with others who stated that having a range within a group allows for natural separation of canopies. Groups at all the same loading seems like it would be more problematic.
  16. I just checked my daughter's birth certificate and it is a "Certificate of Live Birth." Mine says certificate of birth, although I was born in France and am a US citizen born abroad so I have a few pages of additional paperwork. All this birth certificate drama seems silly to me. I guess that's why I stay out of politics as much as possible.
  17. I see. I haven't followed the birth certificate drama. So, it's an issue of him not producing the long form
  18. I have an RSK-1. Anything over a 120 will be extremely tight. I had a very old sabre 120 in mine for awhile and even that was on the tight side. Then I had a safire 2 109 in it which was great, not tight but not too soft either. I'm sure you could squeeze a 129 in there, but I'd go up a container size.
  19. I don't want them to do a worse job. I just think the whole security system now sucks and as you said they're doing a lousy job. I certainly don't feel any safer. There has to be a better way. Personally I think airport security should be a job that requires education and intelligence and significant training. Fewer people who are highly skilled rather than an abundance of morons.
  20. I don't think they turned down the body scan. The article I read said the whole family went through the body scanner and the little girl was selected to get a pat down too. Anyway, if everyone is onboard with TSA and thinks they are doing a great job then I'll keep my complaining to myself. I can choose not to fly.
  21. I just think a little common sense is in order. Seriously, is this really the best security measure this country can come up with. By the way, I flew a couple weeks ago with no body scan or patdown. I couldn't believe it.
  22. Ok, then they should be patting down everyone, not just a small percentage of people.
  23. You're right. She should have had a cavity search too.
  24. The little girl was wearing leggings, there was no place to hide anything.
