Sorry for the lack of updates in the last year everyone. I finally got my rigger rating in December and made another ZP canopy. Here's the video from earlier this year. https://youtu.be/fpTBNnXoY9U It actually flies alright. Unfortunately, despite spending several years and really big chunks of my own money getting my rating, I've still found it difficult jumping homemades at a few dropzones. That, a long with a few other factors, means I'll probably be winding up my jumping for now. It's been an amazing journey, and I've met some great people ( a lot of them are in this thread). I've made some great experiences and I'm happy to be moving on in a relatively positive way.

Double stowing a big rubber band is inherently superior to single stowing a small rubber band. The entire line group is supported as it is lifted off the bag, as opposed to a single wrap, where there is a gap that allows the stow to slip off at an inopportune time.

Fuck this forum and its beginner bashing. Fuck the oldiewonks and their egos. I can't wait to see an improvement in packing.

Is a wing loading of 1:15 to high for beginner
Quagmirian replied to Riders of rohan's topic in Gear and Rigging
Not quite sure what you mean by that. 0.067? 15:1? 1:1.15? 1.15? -
No there isn't. This is a bullshit myth and I wish it would go away. It's true that certain canopies pack bigger or smaller and can sometimes go in a container that usually fits something else. But you need to check first.

The other issue is the RSL release not being accessible when you want it (water landings etc).
-
It's a number, good for most people, and it shuts people up.

Color the line attachment points on the canopy
Quagmirian replied to TheFlyingSwede's topic in Gear and Rigging
It's still not a good idea to colour in your canopy. Just watch a packing video instead. -
Canopy transition for downsizing
Quagmirian replied to Ericakeeley's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Pretty much yeah -
Buying a container and then finding canopies to fit it is a bit like buying a house and then finding a family to put in it. Wrong order, no matter how good the deal is.

Nice. Will all old content still be accessible?

Whoops. Optimum is built better. Better material choices and construction techniques. Nicer quality too.

It's built better for sure. Haven't jumped a smart so can't comment on how they fly.

Why is it necessary to pull both handles
Quagmirian replied to Maddingo's topic in Safety and Training
Why it is necessary to pull both handles - better title right there -
Oh that. I have a copy on my dropbox and my friend has all the audio tapes too. If I knew how to share them I would. https://www.dropbox.com/s/d9x1sy0m426pdy8/Lone%20Star.pdf?dl=0

A copy of what?

Jumped it at Vectorfest [inline white_canopy.jpg] [inline white_canopy1.jpg] First impressions are that it is definitely an improvement on the orange canopy. The control range is still a touch shorter than I had hoped for, but the toggle turns are nice and smooth and the landing flare is beautiful. Lovely landing in nil winds. If I work out how to edit the video I will upload it and link it here.

Hi Andre. Are they actually making them yet? Last I heard they didn't have the tools. That was a while back though.

I think that might just be you.

Why Cross-Braced only for high performance canopies?
Quagmirian replied to mbohu's topic in Gear and Rigging
Cross bracing makes a canopy more efficient in both low and high speed flight. Reducing the upwards cell distortion with the diagonal braces. Pretty sure NZ made a crw canopy called the Matrix2. It was a crossbraced 5 cell. -
Why Cross-Braced only for high performance canopies?
Quagmirian replied to mbohu's topic in Gear and Rigging
I think it has a lot to do with what we expect from a canopy. Does a student rig get the first time jumper safely to the ground? Good. Anything more is more expense for the DZ owner. It's a cost/benefit thing also as you said. -
is there More then 1 reserve chute?
Quagmirian replied to YOUCEF's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
That's the crux of it. Parachutes are so reliable that unless you're doing something out of the ordinary, having a third canopy can actually make you less safe, because it's more complexity and more procedures to get wrong. -
Just to let you all know I'm not dead. I went on the BR course in December, so I have until the end of this year to do all the work and prepare for the exam, so I'll be focusing on that primarily. But I haven't forgotten about jumping my most recent canopy. [inline 28216998_10215906276199504_1940731695_o.jpg]

PD Reserve versus PD Optimum Landing Kinetic Energy
Quagmirian replied to shadeland's topic in Gear and Rigging
Objection! PDs and Optimums are the same size. They're measured in the same way. And no, PD has not misnamed their reserves, they are exactly the size they are labelled, when measured by PD's method. -
Sorry I got lost when he started talking about expecting the skyhook to actually do something after cutting away.
