  1. A job every day should give you thirty bucks or euros (not quite clear where you from). means: 5 tickets a week > 5 jumps at the weekend that´s not bad at all options: > more work or more risky jobs > more money > more jumps > find someone who pays for your jumps (maybe you are great in something else ..) > do crowdfunding and promise to give the money back after you became the youngest worldchampion in skydiving .. > dig for gold, diamonds or oil > invent something what everyone needs, like an app for broke people getting money .. > start a blog about your awesome life > become famous with your skydiving youtube clips > become a parachute-packer (already said) > dont´take advices too serious .. All good sugestions but the BEST way is to inherit a lot of money. No matter how much it is you'll go through it after a while but by then you should have enough experience to "turn pro"
  2. Ron, I'm glad you and your wife made it through what must have been a harrowing experience. I'm glad the responders got there so quickly. Sounds like it may have gotten tense if not for the prompt attention. I'm also glad the responders were able to give comfort along with their professional skills. Sorry, I can't help but asking if the miscreant truck driver looked like a muslem. Most of the things worth doing in the world had been declared impossilbe before they were done. 3. Go to college or a trade school. Keep jumping as much as you can afford but learn a marketable skill. After school, you can afford to jump a lot more than now. I started jumping before college and did not let anything get in the way of jumping. I Jumped at Palatka, FL so we got quite a few U of F students. Some of them continued to jump as they finished school. They became able to afford to jump as much as I wanted to jump. The Aesop's Fable about the ant and the grasshopper applies directly. I've had a great time and enjoyed 99% of it. But the sport got too expensive for me. I'll always call myself a skydiver but now I'm semi-retired because that sounds better than semi-unemployed at age 67. 4. True. A solo on a tandem comes down a little slower and and has a little more forward speed than a T-10. I made 10 or 15 jumps on them when I was at the Relative Workshop. One thing it doesn't do is deflate well after a solo cutaway. After one drifted "over the horizon" I started taking a 5lb. shot bag to hang in the toggle before the chop. 8. Google Earth has a "street view". You can "drive" there before you start and see all the landmarks. But even that will not tell you where the old school house used to be. But that would require the other person to give you and address. Most of the things worth doing in the world had been declared impossilbe before they were done. 12. John died today after a short illness. He was my best friend and has been for 58 years. We met in the 5th grade. We went through school, Boy Scouts, high school swim team together. After high school I went into the army and he started working as a draftsman. I started jumping in the army and when I got out I came home with the typical enthusiasm of a new jumper. We went to Kissimmee where Jimmy Godwin had a drop zone and John made his first jump. That was in 1970. We discovered that a guy was jumping at Herlong Field on our side of Jacksonville. He made a couple of static lines there but didn't make his first free fall for whatever reason. Some years later, '74 I think, he decided to get back into it. I was jumping at Palatka by then and had all the "merit badges" and put him out on his static line jumps and his first free fall. He continued on through his progressing with no real problems. When he had about 35 jumps we went to DeLand and I organized a 16 man star and he was the base. There were 25 people on the load but this was 1974. He continued jumping as he went through college. After he graduated he could afford to jump more and we were on the Palatka 10 man teams for the Z-Hills Turkey meets. In '77 he was on a 4 way team, Kinetic Sunshine, with John Kivipelto, Doug Smith and Jimmy Thrift. They took the silver at nationals. In '83 he teamed up with Doug Smith again and Tommy Pirus and Guy Manos. At the '84 Nationals they were Goldie Locks and the 3 Bears. The next year. Doug dropped out and Joe Neputy (sp) came on. This was the Air Bears. They won the Nationals and went on to the world meet in Yugoslavia. They took me as the team rigger and packer at Johns suggestion. They won by a fairly wide margin. That was the last competitive team he was on but he kept jumping. He was on the Olympic Rings dive in Korea. He was on several World Team record attempts. While he was doing all this, he was also building his engineering practice, As an environmental engineer he was much sought after because of his expertise and integrity. He wasn't afraid to speak truth to power and it may have cost him some business but that wasn't the kind of business he wanted anyway. He was a very successful engineer. He was a very successful person. He was my best friend. I think he was a lot of peoples best friend. But I had the privilege of knowing him for fifty eight years. 14. Did you play sports as a kid? Probably didn't do well at baseball but what about football, basketball? I had ambliopia (sp) as a kid and now have next to no vision in my left eye which turns out and up. (Wall eyed I think is the expression) I played sports, was a springboard diver before starting skydiving. I never had a problem because of lack vision. It's only a problem if you think it is. 19. We went to Nationals in '73 in Talaquah.(sp) We couldn't help but hear "We Don't smoke marjuanna in Muskogee." 20. There was a feature on Discovery or maybe it was 60 Minutes about people that could remember EVERYTHING. Mary Lou Henner (the actress who played the female driver on Taxi) was one of them. She could remember what the weather was on any day she was asked. These people could tell you what they did and what was said any time in the past. I don't remember what it is called (I'm obviously not one of them) but they were phenomenal. Most of the things worth doing in the world had been declared impossilbe before they were done. 21. By someone with a personal grudge. I think the protesters at Drumpf's rallies are also with the gun control faction. So I don't think an idealistic opponent is going to go that way. I said it during Nixon and I said it during Bush 43, "Where is Lee Harvey Oswald when we really need him?" 22. Current events brought this book to mind. I wasn't sure I had really read it or if it had been a TV show or movie. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/It_Can%27t_Happen_Here I don't think the country will actually come to this but the parallel seems relevant as a cautionary tale.
