  1. True, but the threat of drowning isn't a factor or cause of death in that case.
  2. Thus far whenever I've been even remotely close to a pond I'm with a group doing canopy piloting training and there's always been people around. I was talking to a coworker today and trying to explain swooping and the pond to them and why the pond exists when they asked a very interesting question: what happens if you hit and you're by yourself? My quick response was "when ive done it, theres always someone on the ground", but what about people who dont? Is it an unwritten rule that if you're swooping a pond there's someone on the ground in case you hit, go unconcious, and go under?
  3. 1. Why the rush to downsize? 2. Have you gotten ANY canopy coaching? 3. Are you performing HP turns & landings? 4. Why the change in planform @ 150sf? 5. Why only 10 jumps @ 150sf?
  4. The Sabre2 can open nicely. I had a couple hard openings and was told to make sure that the sides of the slider are pulled well out. The front and back of the slider is nowhere near as important as the sides. Since I started doing that, the openings are much better. Has the line trim been checked? Out of trim can do funky things to the openings. Is the slider the correct size? It's not a real common issue, but sometimes the wrong slider is put on. Alternatively, you could choose a canopy that is known for opening softly. The Spectre comes to mind, though there are others. Canopy size and wingloading shouldn't affect openings (although I could be way off base on this). I don't know how the harness fit would or even could affect the opening (but I could be way off on that too). 100% check the trim. I had a Sabre2 150 which opened like shit. Sent it to PD for a reline and when it came back it was awesome. If it still has the original lineset it's probably way out of trim. Spectra looks good for a long time, but can go out of trim pretty quick.
  5. 2011 Triumph Street Triple R. Love the bike but haven't ridden it as much since I moved to VA vs. when I lived in TX.
  6. Stick with the Sabre2. It's got a pretty decent recovery arc for its design and probably one of the longer ones in its "class" of canopies. You can learn a lot on one and downsize a lot as they do get "tiny".
  7. My mom and my sister did a tandem about 3 weeks ago. They were kinda scared on the ground and got better once in the air. I got out at 5k so I could video their landings. The first thing my mom said when she landed was "now I understand why you do it."
  8. Spectre 190 -> Spectre 170. Wanted the same openings and flight characteristics but with a little more speed. From there it was a transition to a Sabre2 150 because I wanted to start high performance turns and wanted the longer recovery of a Sabre2.
  9. If you have to ask, you shouldn't be considering it. Try a Sabre2. Different canopy than the Sabre but a great wing to learn under.
  10. I have a Rawa Image with a top mount. Pretty slick setup. I can't remember who I bought the mount from though.
  11. I do the same series of stretches that I do at stretch & bend every morning during the week. Helps loosen everything up and get prepared. I haven't had any issues yet vs. a couple of tweaked muscles before I started stretching.
  12. From FJC to license took me 4 months and almost every weekend I was at the DZ almost every weekend. Took the time to learn the gear, listen to experience jumpers, learn to pack, and generally try and pick up as much info as I could. There's more to being a student than just jumping.
  13. I sold mine to a newer jumper buying a new unit. She put 2 jumps on my account and she got $90 off the new unit.
  14. I'm gonna sound like a broken record, but had LASIK done and was told by my doc to take a month off and see how my 1-month follow-up went. A month later I was cleared to jump. Ask your doctor.
  15. Raeford? Paraclete XP is right next door and they're a full turbine DZ. They even have a a pond (pretty nice one at that) if that tickles your fancy.
  16. I loved my first N3 so much I bought a second...
  17. I'm going to be yet another person to recommend the PD videos as they've helped me with my packing technique a lot. One of the best nuggets that I ever got was to pull the dbag around the canopy versus trying to stuff the canopy into the dbag. The canopy stays together better and the dbag slides over it.
  18. Nope. I don't even think the twin otter stops climbing when I'm getting out.
  19. I got a pair of freefly pants made by Skimmer Suits where she tie-dyed orange and maroon (VT colors) for the vertical stripe that runs along the side. It turned out awesome and they've lasted quite well. Two thumbs way up for her!
  20. I jumped last week after taking about 3 weeks off after a bad landing which jacked up my right ankle. Take your time and don't rush it.
  21. This vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=knXrXHiWO7o&list=PL45E3B7998E49283E&index=18 does a great job of explaining the different line types. I watched it yesterday when I was bored. Microline, a.k.a. Spectra doesn't stretch like Dacron and is fairly rigid but is susceptible to going out of trim because of heat. It has a long life and will still look good even after it has gone way out of trim. Vectran maintains its trim very well but can wear quickly and shows its wear. Sounds like vectran is the way to go for you.
  22. My first container was a Wings from '06 that supposedly had 2,000 jumps on it when I bought it. Still looked great and looked just as nice when I sold it with 2,300 jumps. New owner gave it a bath and it looks like it's sub-1,000.
  23. Thanks ass. The amount of time it took you to do that it you could of provided some actual help. I'm aware of google and how to use. You asked a simple question that you could have answered by using the search feature on the site and you're calling him an ass? Obviously you don't know how to use Google or you wouldn't have asked this question.
  24. Is there a reason you're looking at a Sabre1 instead of a Sabre2?
