  2. The audio alarms do work. But for many reasons do no not use it as audible backup. - Loss of gps signal due to body position etc. - You have to acquire signal at the start of the day. - You have or adjust the altitude by hand, when switching from dz. - Headphones could disconnect. - Unless you gonna use the Flysight a lot for other purposes; it's too expensive as a back-up. Just buy a Solo II "The 'perfect' parachute jump was thought to be one where the opening shock and touchdown were simultaneous" -Lyle Cameron, ~1965 --- Falling-With-Style.com

  4. I know you where not a fan. But I thought that the grid was a nice idea: Everyone flying in their slot. But I was wrong to assume that was the case. I missed the discussion about the aspect that people are allowed to cross the line. so I thought I mention it. 5. Grids... well, I just read the weird FAI rule that states: Up to 25% of the people not flying in their slot. Thats so ridiculous... I thought that not crossing that virtual line was the challenge, and part of the skill and fun. :-/ "The 'perfect' parachute jump was thought to be one where the opening shock and touchdown were simultaneous" -Lyle Cameron, ~1965 --- Falling-With-Style.com

  7. But if i'm correct, the new firmware doesn't have the flyblind mode. Which would be nice. "The 'perfect' parachute jump was thought to be one where the opening shock and touchdown were simultaneous" -Lyle Cameron, ~1965 --- Falling-With-Style.com
  8. Eeehhh ... No. You do not *have* to jump. It's perfectly fine to go around and be dropped trough a hole OR get out below the clouds OR ride the plane down. 12. Hi, Helmet - You're not gonna ski right? So I would look for a skydive helmet. The advantage is that those have pockets for audibles. Goggles - I'm personally not a huge fan of sky goggles. They take away a fair amount of your peripheral vision. Which I've seen lead to dangerous situations. Use skydive goggles. Personally I think these http://sunshine-factory.com/store/product.php?productid=31 ones are the best, although not as sexy. GPS - The Flysight is very nice if you make only solo's. If you have others to jump with, you can learn a lot because of the visual feedback. I cut down the cheapest headphones I could find and put one of the speakers in my audible pocket. PC - You can opt for a longer bridle and larger PC, but if you are a beginner, in a small suit, standard equipment should suffice. Canopy - I jump the Storm. Just use a docile canopy that, when in a twist, just keep flying. So 7-cells are nice. 14. Could you PM me too? (why is it secret?) Is this what you are looking for? http://flysight.ca/wiki/index.php?title=Firmware_upgrade It has talking firmware you can download. I believe those are still the old beta's at the moment. Could someone PM me too? In the latest beta I've seen, there are 'audible alarms', which you can set manually. ***note: the alarms are 'Above Sea Level', not necessarily 'Above Ground Level'.*** "The 'perfect' parachute jump was thought to be one where the opening shock and touchdown were simultaneous" -Lyle Cameron, ~1965 --- Falling-With-Style.com
  15. We have a dutch guy who makes brackets: https://www.facebook.com/TunedByJlo Safe mounts (with cutaway) that are well made. More info: [email protected]. 16. 487 Wingsuit jumps - 1 time (jump 400 something). My longsleeve locked up the zipper. At that point I was happy I had the Quick release. "The 'perfect' parachute jump was thought to be one where the opening shock and touchdown were simultaneous" -Lyle Cameron, ~1965 --- Falling-With-Style.com
  17. True. I agree that having a sleeve has it's benefits. But 99.9% of the problems you can mitigate if you pull high, and away from people, in a stable fashion and with a canopy suitable for wingsuit flying. The BASE you posted video is very weak in proving anything. And actually is not helping any beginning skydiver. 20. No & Yes there is. You're right. The angle is about 45 degrees. The speeds are not lower because we have a big forward speed and also a bigger surface area; so I think the burble is actually a little big bigger so you want to avoid the burble in 'normal' flocks. BUT if you hit the burble, the most important thing to remember is to: KEEP FLYING! Make yourself big. This is because in a wingsuit, the burble is in an angle, so most of the time you will not fall onto the person below you; you will just hit clean air. The best thing for you to do is go up with a coach and try fly in and out of his/her burble to get used to it. (for nice video and actual in-flight coaching, the coach must be back flying.) The other day we did some dynamic flocking and there we actually use the burble. From 3 min 15 sec: https://vimeo.com/28214086 Here you can see the flyers that are going over the top use the burble to get down in their slot. What you saw in de video posted by The111, were people that hit the burble and the stopped flying by closing their wings, and then things can go south pretty quickly. So do not be afraid of the burble. Learn to use it.
  21. Never on a big wingsuit. But a few days ago someone else had one: https://vimeo.com/71098942 From 14 min. 26 sec. until 15:15. From what I heard it was more luck than skill. But when he arced to reach the pilot, it seems like that solved the problem. But maybe I confuse causation with correlation. 22. Flyblind 1.1 I hope this gets integrated in the the new FlySight firmware.
  23. More than 2 million people saw today a skydiver fall to death on television. In a classic 'who did it' we saw yesterday that the bridle and reserve ripcord were cut by an unknown person. I made a short edit of these events Video:https://vimeo.com/69769933 from 8 min 10 sec. I can imagine the writers got the idea for the parachute murder from these actual events: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parachute_Murder. Scenes were shot on and above Skydive Teuge, The Netherlands. Btw, o skydivers were harmed in making of this show. The actors did not jump but were suspended between two cranes in a harnas. They used 'Matrix techniques' to produce the closeups. Lessons learned: - Always check you ripcord. - Turn on your AAD - Do not skydive if you are a character in a soap opera. -Y. 24. Hi, I recently came across a Recon, and had a change to put it on. (Pro-tip: test before you buy) I was quiet disappointed to be honest. The actual display was in the lower right corner of the glasses. Which means you lose focus on anything else when looking at it. It's not like a real HUD you imagine form a fighter airplane where you see the information in your vision. It's more like driving a new car and you want to change something on the console; you have to look away. It became immediately clear the the Recon it pretty worthless when you want to fly with others; because you don't want to be extracted for even half a second. (and you loose a lot of peripheral vision) So it's a nice toy when you do ONLY solo performance flying. The Recon can be useful, but I think the pros don't outweigh the cons. Disclaimer: I've bought the Flysight. ;-) "The 'perfect' parachute jump was thought to be one where the opening shock and touchdown were simultaneous" -Lyle Cameron, ~1965 --- Falling-With-Style.com
  25. Sorry. But I've to disagree. It's a nice quote but unfortunately it doesn't work that way. This is the first time for them and for them it's very hard to make the choice without experience. That's why we have a FFC to tell them what we have learned. And of course you expect that the student does what you told him/her. I think we have figured this out: "Fully suited up and ready to exit upon takeoff. " like Normiss said.
