  1. I've discovered a youngster on youtube who's jumping a camera at 32 (thirty-two) jumps, but it's ok because he's got tunnel time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mv9CD5emfMs Any response I give now will be angry, sarcastic or both and therefore not helpful so if anyone with more experience in these matters, or better yet might know him in real life, wants to say something please do. NOTE: I don't think everyone yelling about how stupid he is will help, but I've been wrong before. My skydiving - http://unstable-exits.blogspot.com/
  2. Does anyone have a photo from inside an Islander looking out the door at that $0**ing landing gear I can use on my blog? Quality isn't important, and neither is having an actual jumper in the shot. Thought I'd ask before I started trawling youtube for a screen-grab. My skydiving - http://unstable-exits.blogspot.com/
  3. Snap. A staffer packed me a line-over that started spinning violently. On a 220 Navarone loaded at ~0.8, on jump number 30. It all happened to quick for me to really be afraid, before I had time to think I had my reserve above me (such a pretty canopy). Now I feel much more confident, knowing I can deal with malfunctions. http://unstable-exits.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/my-first-malfunction.html Edited because I forgot to include any useful information. 4. You're right, it wasn't wasted time. Now I think about it even practicing the wrong technique taught me about the canopy, and its the same method once its in the bag. It would have just been less frustrating and more educational if I'd asked first then propacked instead of flatpacking. My skydiving - http://unstable-exits.blogspot.com/
  5. I don't want to add petrol to a fire that seems to have gone out, but I have an update: Due to bad weather I had a packing day at the DZ today and took my rig to get specific training on it. My instructor said that whilst it was possible to flat pack a relatively new ZP canopy with no cell tabs (I'd done it before at home, poorly) it's massively difficult so he taught me how to pro-pack, which was much easier. This may be specific to my canopy, so I guess the lesson for new jumpers is when you get a new rig check with your instuctors before you waste an afternoon creating a pack job you wouldn't jump if the plane was going down. For the full messy story check the link in my sig. My skydiving - http://unstable-exits.blogspot.com/
  6. I'm crushed to discover the got rid of this: http://politicalhumor.about.com/library/images/blpic-frenchmilitaryvictories.htm On the plus side that site is still the top result. My skydiving - http://unstable-exits.blogspot.com/
  7. CONGRATULATIONS That it one of the smartest comments from any skydiver (especially someone with your jump numbers) posted on this forum. Cheers mate, now I'm off to try and swoop my 96 sqft canopy after pulling @ 1000' from a wingsuit jump. I'll be sure to post the gopro footage. @NovaTTT and IanHarrop, I've only had a quick read of both guides but they look brilliant, exactly what I was looking for. 8. Because that's how I was taught, and I want to stick with what I know for now. Once I understand the concepts better I'll move on. My skydiving - http://unstable-exits.blogspot.com/
  9. [Did a search, but everything I found was old and full of broken links] Does anyone know a good step-by-step guide for flat-packing? I've had a couple of packing lessons and mostly know what I'm doing but now I have my own rig I want to practice at home and could use a reference. Cheers. 10. Old news in a very new way. I think you can be confident that you have a unique combination of content and delivery, and this what it's all about? My skydiving - http://unstable-exits.blogspot.com/
  11. That rainbow is amazing. Is it a normal one or is something funny going on? My skydiving - http://unstable-exits.blogspot.com/
  12. I would think thanks to the invention of youtube armchair jumpers now have a huge collection of experiences to misunderstand then regurgitate later. My skydiving - http://unstable-exits.blogspot.com/
  13. Is there any collection of skydiving blogs out there? I've just started my own (*cough* shameless plug *cough*) http://unstable-exits.blogspot.com/ and I'd like to see what ideas there are out there to plagerise. The idea behind mine is to collect stories too long for my logbook and share them with my non-jumping brethren, though comments from people who understand more than half of what I say would be appreciated. Anyone doing anything similar? My skydiving - http://unstable-exits.blogspot.com/
  14. Since I got my A licence I've been doing little jumping and saving for my first rig. I've got a couple of grand together (£) so I'm ready but with the off-season is approaching, would I get a better deal waiting for autumn proper or even later? I'm patient for the right price (and not quite ready for a 190 anyway). What good places are there to buy rigs in the UK? My DZ has a kitstore with a few so I'll try that next time I'm down there. 15. My 13 year old cousin has a fb account. She has 400 other friends, and I can't believe she knows them all in real life. She's fairly clued up for her age, and her parents are on there and can monitor her activity, but it still scares me how easy it could be for her to be exposed to the worst kind of humanity. A friend request from someone with the picture of a teenager, a few messages and then an invite to meet up... If I ever become a parent this stuff is going to give me nightmares.
