Surprised to see so many yeses. I'm another yes. It wasn't hard for me at all. Maybe it's just been so bad for so long that I just really lost all touch with caring whether the person was in my life or not. Some people have told me it's unhealthy because I will soon regret it. Neat. What are you using? Dragon Naturally Speaking? Smartphone? I work(ed) at an ALS clinic where we did a lot of medical and clinical research. I can't believe what I'm reading here. My gear is my property, and is a life-saving device. Regardless of my actions, you have no legal, moral, or ethical right to touch it, for any reason, without my consent. Pops, I have to disagree with you- telling somebody ahead of time that you're going to perform some action does not make it OK. In fact, in some cases, it makes it LESS ok if it's pre-conceived. My suggestion to you would have been to plan on flying the attached pattern (suggestion in blue). If you wanted to land on the target you originally had, you could have used a braked approach, or modified your pattern (Talk to an instructor more about this). As I mentioned to Krisanne above, the pattern that I have on that image was only my planned pattern after the 360 put me over the parking lot. Certainly the pattern that I had originally planned looked more like the one you drew.

I suppose I should amend that to say that the pattern I posted was only my planned pattern AFTER the 360. Originally, I was aiming for the X. You're right, though; there's plenty of space for landing, and I'll be aiming for that in the future.

Jump 42: Fairly windy day for me, gusting to about 21 MPH around 1000 ft. Exited my holding area about 250 feet early, decided to do a quick toggle 360 to lose altitude. Of course, the wind blew me all the way across the landing area (extra canopy surface area exposed to the wind during the 360). Everything was OK, though I was a bit worried that I was going to land a little closer to the hangar than originally expected. On final, at about 100 feet, I was still over some trees. Turbulence collapsed the right side of my canopy, and I took a 90-degree right turn before my canopy reinflated at about 60 feet. Now, I was travelling parallel to the tree line, still over trees. Did a quick flat turn left, kicked the tops of trees as I came in, and thought I was going to land in the swimming pool. My feet probably cleared the top of the pool fence by a foot and I landed about five feet from the pool. Felt pretty dumb, got a good talking-to from a few people. Kinda made me nervous over the next few jumps. I've attached an aerial shot of my planned pattern and my actual landing. I'll absolutely be avoiding strong turns in heavy winds. Additionally, I won't be flying over unlandable terrain under 1000'. Come, my friends! 'Tis not too late to seek out a newer world!

Sorry, but ticketing somebody for walking home drunk is not going to stop them from drinking; that's simply wishful thinking. As far as he is concerned, he made a decision (to walk instead of drive). That decision resulted in a ticket. Who knows how he'll choose next time? Working is residential living, we used to have a lot of problems with students being injured, robbed, or assaulted while drunk and wandering around the city because they were afraid to come home and "get in trouble" with the RAs or other residence hall staff. We realized that safety is way more important that enforcing policies, so we made a new policy wherein students will be granted immunity to alcohol policies if they approach staff in order to seek help for themselves or friends. The result? A massive decrease in alcohol-related injuries, robberies, and assaults. My point is, the students didn't stop drinking just because we enforced policies. They just did it in a more dangerous way... knowingly. Come, my friends! 'Tis not too late to seek out a newer world!

I have a buddy who, in college, decided he had too much to drink. So he decided to walk. The cop watching the parking lot decided to follow him and ticketed him for public intox. So he made the right choice, but there are so many ways for locals to collect public revenue, there's no win. I'd say a ticket for public intoxication is #WINNING over going to jail (or worse) for drunk driving. So yes, he did make a good choice. An even better choice might have been to not have too much to drink while out in public. (I think there are actual reasons for public intoxication laws, though I can't tell from this anecdote if your buddy's behavior warranted a ticket or not.) Maybe, or maybe next time he'll get behind the wheel instead of walking in order to avoid a pub. intox. ticket. We can't say for sure, but certainly what happened applied pressure in the wrong direction. Come, my friends! 'Tis not too late to seek out a newer world!

In PA (I'm using PA as an example because I know the laws :o), liquor sales are entirely state-run; only state liquor stores sell liquor. For a long time, these stores were closed on Sundays. Now, they have limited hours on most days of the week. It is a hassle much of the time to buy alcohol at convenient times. Additionally, there is no competition for pricing. We frequently drive to NJ to buy liquor, where liquor sales are less regulated. The hours are convenient and the competition makes the pricing a bit more palatable. Come, my friends! Keely, I know what you're getting at- that the increased prices themselves represent the regulation. But we're not talking about pricing with alcohol- we're talking about availability. You raise an interesting point, though. I'm not sure how I feel about regulation through price gouging. Seems like the regulations would affect the poor considerably more than the rich.
