  1. More advertising from Brian Germain promoting Brian Germain. The man has a license to spam on this site.
  2. The best reason for keeping the night jump requirement was articulated inadvertently to me by Diane Pond who was arguing against night jumps. She says she hates them because there is hardly anyone around with enough knowledge to teach them anymore. But many. many, people still want to do night jumps. For lots of newbs it's one of the ultimate goals. And night wingsuit jumps are incomparable. Night jumps are a beloved part of skydiving and a tradition for a large percentage of skydivers. And night jumps are an excellent learning experience. All aspects are reviewed by everybody, and everybody must plan and execute the jumps as a team. Night jumps are not going away. There must be a mechanism for this knowledge to be passed down. It is a part of the sport. An expert in the sport of skydiving should have this fundamental knowledge. Requiring night jumps for D licenses thus helps insure that at least a few skydivers at every DZ have the knowledge to plan and execute safe night jumps.

It happened to me. Girl took it out during free fall. I thought it was hilarious and impressive. I have also heard of it happening one other time. Obviously not a good idea. But students do the darnedest things.
  4. Is it the Velo 120? Anything else out there?
  5. Sounds like an awesome idea. If its a clear night and a full moon its no more risky than a day jump. Use a strobe light under canopy and you're good.
  6. He posted a disgusting racist diatribe he thought would be "interesting" to discuss. You don't need to know the source to know this is the unfathomably moronic writing of a white supremacist. No need to ask Bigun's opinion here. Posting this hateful stupidity speaks for itself.
  7. It is not normal. This tandem master is an incompetent fool. People who defend this bullshit are asshats. He had all the time in the world to land in a clear area but chose to spiral your friend into a fence. The DZ ignored it? Sue their asses.

  9. I will give you a pass. Not much one can say to someone who routinely misunderstands everything he reads. It is noteworthy however that as the only other self identified cop in this thread you are nearly illiterate. Kinda proves my point.
  10. "When I train guys that.." Herein lies a big problem. Cops being trained by the most ignorant, shortsighted, scared, and racist ones of the bunch.

  12. Since you mentioned my opinions and the holocaust in the same sentence, I doubt we could ever have a substantive discussion on this issue. Read carefully. I mentioned the Holocaust only in relation to someone who believes there is "no problem whatsoever". Are you saying that is your belief? If so, that is an extreme level of denial. IMO. which was my point. No offense meant.
  13. Every time someone talks about race and law enforcement people like you love to say "you're playing the race card" and refuse to talk about it. So lets be clear what you're saying; are you saying there is never a racial component? That race is never an issue? That despite hundreds of years of institutional racism in this country law enforcement is now completely color blind? Of course you may disagree about the scope of the problem but can anyone really say its not a problem at al? You could talk to any single one of the millions of law abiding black people in this country and they will tel you their own stories of being harassed by police. Are they all lying? Is it truly your belief there is no problem whatsoever in that area and nobody should be allowed to talk about it? If so, that would be akin to denying the Holocaust. And because a police officer like yourself believes this, it's definitive proof we still have q major problem.
  14. Thats a fair question and the answer is no. The most jumps I have seen a full time TI at any of the busiest turbine DZ's in the northeast make is 800. Though a much more likely number would be around 300 to 400.

  16. "I speaking of pointing things out to people wearing pistols, more than once I have pointed out to state troopers who were working wrecks that we were on that their glocks did not have a magazine in it." Excuse me, did you say you are/were a cop? Isn't there some minimum level of literacy required to be a police officer? Aren't you supposed to have an IQ above 80 or something? Did you cheat on your tests or does this explain a large part of the problem? Obviously this is a rhetorical question. I know you are slow. That's ok and everything, just maybe not for people who carry guns.
  17. The thing is, racism is stupid. And people who are racist are too stupid to understand they are racist. So they they say and do racist shit, but when someone calls them racist they say "oh, you're playing the race card" because they are too stupid to even know they are racist. Instead, they say shit like "I am a human racist" which makes no sense whatsoever, other than to let others know they have no idea what the word means. Unfortunately, we rarely get to know who these people are because they learn to keep their mouths shut, lest other people constantly call them racists. Which is bewildering and frustrating to to the blithering idiot racist. Of course, online, people expose themselves more because they can get away with it anonymously. So we see many of them posting here. The sad thing is we can't tell who they are when we go to the DZ. Thus we are in danger of jumping with these blithering idiots. I only wish you guys had a sign over your heads that said "Airdvr" etc.. so I could identify who was too fucking stupid to jump with. So please, if you could wear a name tag or something at the DZ I would really appreciate it. Thank you.
  18. And this is why it's a really good idea to have a fair bit of experience before changing your EPs... You may not have thought of everything. Do you REALLY want to put your hand into an area with lines and risers whipping all over the place? What happens if you get a wrap around your right hand, now you've turned a high speed mal horseshoe with a a simple decision tree into a high speed entanglement and horseshoe... now what? Despite that risk some folk will do as you suggest, but I'm using it as an example to REALLY think through the process of altering your EPs before you do it. Actually, 100 jump wonder, this is a classic case of why you shouldn't seek skydiving advice on the internet. You happen to be absolutely right. Both Yoink and Bigun are absolutely wrong. A horseshoe map of the type you are suggesting is very serious. Firing your reserve into that mess, cutaway or not, will be a crap shoot. On the other hand, clearing your pilot chute will give you a good chance for a normal deployment. And if it comes out like shit, you then have emergency procedures that will be effective. Therefor, this is the one exception to the "try twice" rule. If you haven't thrown your pilot chute, and you feel your bag bumping around on your back, you MUST try and clear the pilot chute right up until your hard deck. There is no algorithm or decision tree. It is just a scenario that a person must learn and practice to be a skydiver. Sure, whenever possible it makes sense to keep EP's simple and consistent. But you don't do that at the cost of reducing your chances of survival by such a wide margin. Ask your instructors.
  19. Obviously Rover is an older person and has some archaic views on such things. Don't let it bother you. Most people these days are not so ignorant. You should find work no problem. The bottom line is your skills as a TI not how you look.
  20. Learn the multi stage flare. Level the canopy, bleed off all the speed you can, and finish the flare strong and all the way down. All the talk about flaring at a certain height is bogus. The one big flare ten feet off the ground is just for students. You need to transition to the multi stage flare. Ask your instructors. Once learned you will stand up even down winders.
  21. I truly believe if you're scared every time you should quit doing tandems. TM's should be comfortable and without fear. No one is trying to kill you. That kind of attitude is self manifesting and will get you into trouble. Just fly your body. It's easy. No reason to be scared and it's a disservice to the student to have to jump with a TI who is scared shitless.
  22. No peer pressure. I just let students know they will most likely die if they don't buy beer. But it's their decision.
  23. Racism in Florida?!? No way!!! Hitler is definitely the right thing to call him. Point well made!!
  24. Andy is very concerned about clogging up space on DZ.com. The poor owners of this site hate it when new people join and Andy is very worried about the cost to these poor owners. Which is why he has limited his posts to just over 21600. Please, have some respect for the struggling owners of this website. Luckily they have Andy to watch out for them. Too many people spend their time worrying about homelessness and poverty and stuff. DZ.com owners are being overlooked! But not by Andy thank God.
