  1. If your friend had to pull the reserve manually then the RSL shackle was disconnected, assuming no rigging errors were made. Either way, this has nothing to do with a skyhook. Personally I have had a cutaway where my skyhook became disconnected though (see attached pictures). Spinning main canopy and 'normal' RSL deployment resulted in a twisted reserve. But the twists were easy to get out and I'd still take a twisted reserve over no reserve any day :). "So I jump out, look up, and think 'Oh SHIT!... 2. If I get it right, you were in the exact direction you were expecting to be after the planned 450 but a little higher because you did a 270 the other way instead. How was your intended landing direction not a good direction to abort? And how does adding a full 360 (leaving you in the same direction) make things any better? 3. https://www.dz-manager.com Skydive Teuge in Holland (two Supervans, 40.000+ jumps a year) has been using DZ Manager for 4 years now I think. It has a lot of the fancy features you mentioned, although we're only slowly implementing them one by one. As a manifester I can recommend this software, although I must say I am biased. I started working here right when we started using DZ Manager (we used JumpRun before) and so I've never actually worked with anything else. "So I jump out, look up, and think 'Oh SHIT!... 4. After getting reprimanded by an instructor for knowingly going straight through his harddeck with a nonfunctional canopy two jumps before... "So I jump out, look up, and think 'Oh SHIT!... It's PINK!!!'" - army guy after his first staticline jump
  5. Have you tried pumping the brakes (twice) to get the slider down like you were taught during AFF? Your story makes it sound as if you passively waited till you were at 2000ft. "So I jump out, look up, and think 'Oh SHIT!... It's PINK!!!'" - army guy after his first staticline jump
  6. You're right, in head-up it gets pretty shaky. I'm quite sure this has to do with my helmet, as it is a tiny bit too big on my head and the video is super solid in any non-head-up orientation. I have asked several experienced freeflyers/video guys though and they've all told me the same thing: if you want steady freefly video, go headdown because head-up will always be more shaky. I haven't done any video on 720 so can't comment on that. By the way, I use the exit equipment switch, and have used the ultimate blowswitch before. I like the exit equipment one more, although I use it as bite and not as tongue switch (as intended). I've only used it for a few jumps though so I can't comment on durability. 7. I dont really need a ringsight as long as I use the lens at 16mm, or at least I haven't needed it so far. A bit of practice has thought me how to aim my head depending on the orientation I fly in and so far it's working out fine. My boyfriend uses a similar setup though and he has just bought a ringsight as he doesn't want to be thinking 'head down a bit in trace, up a bit in head-up or videoing tandem, up a lot in hu trace, and normal in head-down or when videoing fs' as I do. For tandems I use the gopro for video and the sony for photo's. For fs teams I ended up doing the same as they thought the sony video was too narrow on exit, but that could just be my way of filming the exit, I'm a total noob when it comes to fs video (or fs in general, really). 8. I use a zkulls hero overkill mount on a tonfly 3x. When I use the sony for video I don't bring my (or actually borrowed, not mine) gopro anymore on most jumps though. "So I jump out, look up, and think 'Oh SHIT!... It's PINK!!!'" - army guy after his first staticline jump
  9. I switched from a Nikon d3100 to a Sony A5100 end of last year. The reasons I went for an a5100 instead of the a5000 are the high-bitrate 60p full hd video option and the super fast autofocus the a5100 offers. I initially bought it for stills but love the video it takes so much that that's what I use it for mostly now, full hd frame-grabs are fine for facebook use and such anyway. I use the standard kitlens and it works great, haven't felt the need to buy a 16mm prime as of yet. An example of some video I took with it: https://vimeo.com/115850497 No fancy editing, simply slowed the footage down to 50% (30p instead of the original 60) and added some music. ETA: Vimeo only plays 720 as I'd need to pay to upload the 1080 version, so I've added some un-edited framegrabs. "So I jump out, look up, and think 'Oh SHIT!... 10. Vectran lines won't get out of trim before they get worn, and lines that do shrink easily might get out of trim faster because of any extra friction a semi stowless bag causes (which was kinda the whole point of this discussion). And yes of course I will be replacing my 'fucking lines' when they get worn but I'd rather that be at 500-600 jumps after reline than 300-400. That said I haven't found much support for the theory of stowless bags causing extra wear so I'll probably go for a semi stowless on my new rig. "So I jump out, look up, and think 'Oh SHIT!... 11. ... yeh way off topic i just started this because someone who doesnt know shit from clay... blah blah Yes I get it skez, you have the biggest penis knowledge, good to know. I know there are bags without any rubber bands and I don't like them, if you want to know why you can send me a pm or start a new thread. Back on topic. Has anyone else got anything to say on the damage/wear a semi (or fully, whatever) stowless bag could or could not do to lines? I can imagine lines sliding past themselves and the fabric of the bag at a decent speed does cause quite some friction. Whereas with a normal bag only short bights of lines 'slide' past the rubber bands, and I think it's more the rubber band rolling off anyway. So far I only found this one thread from 2011 where a guy complains about the wear a semi stowless has on his (vectran) lines: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4090664 "So I jump out, look up, and think 'Oh SHIT!... It's PINK!!!'" - army guy after his first staticline jump
  12. So one rigger tells me that I shouldn't get a semi stowless bag because it will wear out my lines faster, but another rigger tells me it won't cause any (extra) wear. I get how it's not ideal to have the lines rubbing past each other every opening but will this friction wear out my (vectran) lines significantly faster? 13. Thanks everyone for the advice, history lessons and childish remarks :D. I might borrow a pull-out rig to try it anyway, but for now my mind is set on throw-out. This is mostly because hard(er) pulls are apparently still pretty common with pull-out and even though I won't wingsuit with it I will be jumping camera wings sometimes. 14. Skydive Teuge in the Netherlands just announced that jumpprices will go down to 20 euros per 2015. It used to be 25 for members and 26 for visitors so that's a very pleasant change. "So I jump out, look up, and think 'Oh SHIT!... It's PINK!!!'" - army guy after his first staticline jump
  15. I bought a sony a5100 mostly for stills but will also be using it for video sometimes. Now I was wondering if there is any way to buy/build an indicator that can show me if it's recording. Maybe something like a hypeye mini with an adapter cable would work? hypeye mini: http://www.gethypoxic.com/browse/hypoxic-stuff.html?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=18&category_id=6 adapter cable: http://www.exitequipment.com/switches_xq025.html "So I jump out, look up, and think 'Oh SHIT!... 16. So, I'm ordering a new rig and am wondering what deployment system would be best for me. Some facts about me: - 900 jumps, most of which freefly - No intention to start wingsuiting (at least not with this rig) - Most jumps on BOC rigs, none on pull-out - Pretty weak in the arms (already went to reserve for a hard-pull once) - Almost always pack my own rig and know how to pack a pull-out rig If you were in my position, which one would you choose? And, more important, why? "So I jump out, look up, and think 'Oh SHIT!... It's PINK!!!'" - army guy after his first staticline jump
  17. I use a 3x with the zkulls hero overkill mount, a nikon d3100 on top and a gopro (hero 2) on the front. For the gopro I use the skeleton housing to at least get a tiny bit of sound recorded for interviews, it also allows me to charge the gopro and access the memorycard without opening up the box. What I also really like about this mount is that I can look up and see if my gopro's led is blinking myself, this may not be the case for everyone though. I put a quick release on top of the zkulls mount for my nikon so I can take it off easily and so I can access the battery without taking the whole mount off of my helmet. I could almost get the battery out without the quick release in between so it might not be an issue with the d5100 if the battery is not in the exact same place. I don't do much camerawork but for the few jumps I use it for I like it. :) "So I jump out, look up, and think 'Oh SHIT!... It's PINK!!!'" - army guy after his first staticline jump
  18. I am a bit of a lightweight at 57kg, about 150lbs out the door. My progression so far: 1-40: 235 down to a 185 student canopy. 40-90: Sabre 170 at 0.9 90-140: Silhouette/Sabre/Sabre2 150 at 1.0 140-350: Sabre/Sabre2 135 at 1.1 350-650: Sabre2 120 at 1.25 650- now: Crossfire2 109 at a bit less than 1.4 According to the Dutch canopy rules my downsizing is (way) too aggressive, which I don't agree with. This is partially because those rules restrict mostly on sizes and not so much on wingload, it is also not that common here to do more than 200 jumps a year (as I do). 20. If you want something cheap go with Rsuits. I've done about 300 jumps with my suit so far and it's showing minimal wear. https://www.facebook.com/rutkinsuits [inline Image21-edit2.jpg] "So I jump out, look up, and think 'Oh SHIT!... It's PINK!!!'" - army guy after his first staticline jump
  21. Skydiving in Belgium on the other hand can be super cheap for western European standards, and depending on where you'll be in Germany may be well worth having a look at. Jump prices can go down to 15 euros a jump. "So I jump out, look up, and think 'Oh SHIT!... It's PINK!!!'" - army guy after his first staticline jump
  22. I know someone who has a spectre 120 in an RSK, he uses a bigger bag and it kinda works, but it's a bitch to close and the stiffners in the main closing flaps are bending and breaking because of it. 23. So, last weekend I lost my gopro hero2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FEcLax3MNMw), and now I'm doubting whether I should replace it now with the 3+ (as my dad will be able to bring it back from the US in 3 weeks), or if I should wait for the 4 to come out. Apart from a christmas boogie (that I could also borrow a gopro for) I most likely won't be jumping until April or so next year. What do you guys think, will the 4 be there before April? And will it be worth the wait? Will it be more expensive than the 3+ black is right now? "So I jump out, look up, and think 'Oh SHIT!... It's PINK!!!'" - army guy after his first staticline jump
  24. So, last year we went to EmpuriaBrava and even though it was nice and all, we didn't do that many jumps, and this year jump prices have increased to a ridiculous 30 euro's a jump, so it's not really an option anymore. Since flying to the States is out of budget aswell, we're wondering what European christmas/newyears boogies are worth visiting. We'd be most interested in boogies with affordable jumps and some nice freefly load-organizing. "So I jump out, look up, and think 'Oh SHIT!... 25. In Holland you're only allowed to jump without a helmet once you have a C-license or higher. If you're in Teuge shopping for gear anyway you can also check out Skydive Supplies, The Parachutecase can be pretty expensive and it's always nice to know all the options. For a (fullface) helmet and an altimeter you should also check out 'K Leef k-leef.com, Jan and Efraïm can be found at Teuge quite often (and Jan lives in the Hague, so you can probably also visit him there). 'K Leef sells the cookie G3 helmet, quite some people say it's the best fullface helmet on the market, and they have them in all sizes for you to try on. Good luck with finding the gear you like, and enjoy jumping in the winter ;). "So I jump out, look up, and think 'Oh SHIT!... It's PINK!!!'" - army guy after his first staticline jump
