  1. What are you baseing your numbers on? I hope it's not on the incident reports on DZ.com. Any idea how many video people or the peeps geeking the camera got sucked down. Just wondering K-RIP Then why isn't there an outcry to ban all cameras from skydiving? No, the debate is solely focused on small format cameras on jumpers without C-Licenses, which is just a USPA recommendation not a rule! If there were people with 100 jumps with massive commercial set-ups on their heads then I'd see the point, as it seems most people do. That's not the problem. The problem is that the experienced jumpers have taken a recommendation and turned it into a rule to harass and harangue newer jumpers over to prevent them from using small format cameras, even though there's no definitive evidence that it's unsafe. Should there be some law to forbid the use small format cameras on motorcycles, mountain bikes, snowskis, zip lines, and wind tunnels? Why is it that it's the small format camera that suddenly makes skydiving dangerous? It's all been said before, no sense repeating it here.
  2. Number of low pull/no pulls largely caused by the presence of a camera: Lots! So then, why is it that students are allowed to hire camera jumpers from their very first jump? Wouldn't the presence of a camera, by your logic, cause a student to be more susceptible to a low pull because he's showing off for the camera? I very much doubt that's the case. It's probably the opposite way around, a student would be so consumed by trying to get the jump right that the student would forget all about that ContourHD stuck to his head. Is there a potential threshold at which the value of a small format camera might outweigh the risks, in your eyes? What about a ContourGPS? It's got to be difficult to argue against having a graphical flight path displayed on GoogleMaps inset on a video of the jump. Flight Recorder The problem is that jumpers can't seem to plan a jump and jump the plan. Is it really that hard to do a proper skydive? Or, is this a territorial dispute because of professional video jumpers who are going to lose money because they've been largely replaced by technology? Is the C-License requirement just a moritoreum to keep camera jumpers employed by restricting jumpers from grabbing their own videos? It just seems to me that there's more to this than just the safety issue. It's all been said before, no sense repeating it here.
  3. Number of jumpers killed by low pulls in the last 39 years: A LOT! Number of jumpers killed by GoPros and Contours combined: ZERO! Number of AAD activations due to low/no pulls: Enough to prove their worth! Number of AAD activations due to presence of GoPro or Contour without low/no pull: ZERO! It's all been said before, no sense repeating it here.
  4. Seriously, lose the camera. You cannot keep jumping with the camera AND be safe. Period. Take your time and listen to all of this advice. Rudi Does everybody have to miss the point here? If he wasn't wearing a camera then this video wouldn't exist! The fact that he was wearing a camera had little to do with what got him into the situation. There was a pile of things that he did wrong on this jump that are generally considered reckless with or without a camera, and it is those things that were the primary factors in the peril of the situation. The camera was an innocent bystander, and by no means will simply removing the camera fix what went wrong on this jump. It's all been said before, no sense repeating it here.
  5. That was a pretty good video. Are you sure that was him in the older clips? It's all been said before, no sense repeating it here.
  6. Well, could he please try switching it to "Aux"! It's all been said before, no sense repeating it here.
  7. Are you saying that Texans would be "ashamed that the President of the United States is from Texas?" +1 for Natalie Maines and the Dixie Chicks! It's all been said before, no sense repeating it here.
  8. Does anyone remember the debate with Bush the First with the lights? In that debate, they were using colored lights to indicate how long the candidates could speak for with yellow meaning "getting close" and red meaning "you're done." So, Bush the First is giving his response when the moderator interrupts him to say that time is up. Bush states that the light had only turned yellow and that he still had time. The moderator admits his mistake and allows Bush to finish, only, Bush had completely lost his train of thought and couldn't remember what he was talking about and had no idea what to say next, so he stood there for a second like a confused Bush before simply stating, "I'm done!" 9. Not only is it not eligible for commercial use, but it can't be used for skydiving at all in the US. It's all been said before, no sense repeating it here.
  10. Yep. A pretextual stop. Whren v. US. http://www.law.cornell.edu/supct/html/95-5841.ZO.html This case upholds that authority. The opinion was authored by Scalia. The dissent was authored by, um, there was no dissent. A unanimous decision. Which was the point! The police can stop anyone they want to. It's impossible to avoid a police contact. 12. Holy Hell!! Thank God I don't live in Swindon! I looked at the related video with the animation showing how it supposed to work, and I still couldn't figure it out! Magical Roundabout Animation It's all been said before, no sense repeating it here.
  13. LOL.. Funny to see the Bible being blamed instead of the Koran for once. There is no justification for this kind of abuse. If he really wanted to punish her, he could've just taken away her computer for a week or two. It's all been said before, no sense repeating it here.
  14. They could also change the laws to allow drivers to treat Red lights as Stop signs when there's no traffic, like what's being done for bicycle riders in some states. As a motorcycle rider it's pretty much normal to "run" red lights (after stopping) because the signal doesn't know you're sitting there. It's all been said before, no sense repeating it here.
  15. That's exactly what I was thinking! It's all been said before, no sense repeating it here.
  16. Maybe it's just because I'm from California, but this has to be the craziest traffic signal idea I've ever heard of! I wonder if the mad inventor who is trying to patent this has actually ever driven a car, let alone driven one in California! The "Green" Traffic Signal without GREEN lights. 17. Wouldn't it be hilarious if the jumper in question had a thousand jumps and was just trying to screw with the OP? It's all been said before, no sense repeating it here.
  18. I think it's hilarious that when the wife took the belt from him that he walked out of the room to go get another one. Did he think that it was going to require two belts to finish the job? Hitting her was one thing, but his verbal abuse was even more telling: "You don't deserve to live here." "I didn't get my lick in." Even though he had already hit her repeatedly, which pretty much proves the point that this was a beating and not a spanking because he intended to spank her but hit everything but her butt. "I'll beat you into submission." It's all been said before, no sense repeating it here.
  19. So, if you were in a car accident, you wouldn't file a claim with your insurance company because you assumed the risk of driving? Every one of the spectators that were injured and the families of those killed are entitled to compensation for the accident. It's a completely ignorant comment to simply state that they should suck it up and bear all of the responsibility for something that they had no control over just because you hate the word "lawsuit". It's all been said before, no sense repeating it here.
  20. Beat you to it! See post #12. Why we're at it. Technically, "skydiving" is a gerund and therefore makes more sense as a single word, along with waterskiiing, snowboarding, and scuba diving (oh, nevermind)! It's all been said before, no sense repeating it here.
  21. I now have a mental picture of what Shah looks like, Steve Buscemi from the movie Fargo. I'm thinking three engineers should be able to operate a wood chipper. It's all been said before, no sense repeating it here.
  22. If only you could use your drivers license to jump .... well, under the light sport pilot rules here in the US, i can fly a light sport plane with a drivers license, after being trained how to fly. he has been trained under the USPA. a jump with an instructor should be the most required. someone is just wanting to make some cash off this guy. No, you cannot be a Sport Pilot in the US with a driver's license. You still have to become a certificated Sport Pilot by the FAA. The driver's license can be used in lieu of a 3rd class medical certificate for any pilot, who hasn't had a previous medical certificate denied, who flies a Light Sport Aircraft (LSA) within the LSA limitations. Pilot certificates and medical certificates are two different things. It's all been said before, no sense repeating it here.
  23. I wasn't going to say anything, but I was just wondering how this got into a post: I've never seen the word itself embellished upon in such a way. It's all been said before, no sense repeating it here.
  24. Where did "Calli" come from? I didn't bring that up. Yes, most people refer to it as the CHP, but definitely people did use the words "CHiPs" and "CHIPPIES" before the show came out. Even so, the name of the show itself was an acronym of CHP, which was my point. CHP is an initialization, "CHiPs" is an acronym. "Medics" is short for "Paramedics", which wasn't what I was talking about. My example referred to a medical computer system called "Medical Information Super Computer" which is abbreviated with an acronym -"MEDICS." It's all been said before, no sense repeating it here.
  25. 1) Because Skyhook isn't available on all rigs. 2) Because an RSL won't release a main riser. It's all been said before, no sense repeating it here.
