  1. At the time? No. I didn't realize exactly what was entangled - I thought it was a steering line, not the excess break line. Panic and inexperience made it worse. In retrospect, I wonder if it would have helped given how spun up it was. I'm guessing it would have, but... Something didn't seem quite right the first time I watched the vid so I took another look. I think you may have a few things going on there... After the deployment starts you do about a 180 as it's opening. As the canopy inflates, it appears as if one side is loaded a lot more than the other...even prior to the snag one riser group is several inches higher than the other. Also as it's opening it looks like the left group has a twist in it? Am I seeing things or did that pack job really suck? I think you're right, but I'd also factor into our thinking that it was a wingsuit deployment and I was just learning how to fly one. I was notorious for having crappy body position, which can cause spin ups (although based on the video, I don't think I had a lot of lateral motion in that particular jump). I think you've identified an additional factor, though! if you've just learning how to fly a wingsuit why did you add a camera gear on a top of it?
  2. do you have a mad skillz or supernatural powers? are u a member of microwave generation? if answer to any of those questions is 'yes' you should certainly give it a try.

  6. actually I thought aliens did it. But "aliens" obviously prefer making this bs in crops so they can hide the footprints more easily. :) or is this splinted personality case whereby he's sending the signals to the crop part of himself?
  7. nowdays the most of the systems are built up in layers - one on a top of another. By building one layer you never know if someone else is (ever) going to build on a top of it - so you don't know on which level or in which context you have to provide the error message. That is one of the reasons some error messages (written on the lower lever) sometimes get through to the end user.

  10. Nick and Abedy thanks a lot!
  11. & now a few more newer jumpers may make the same mistake... Pulling vids like that isn't giving back to the sport. I learned a lesson... next time I'll download the video immediately and repost it... if removed. Pilfy - check the Google Maps Satelite image of the Hawai DZ - it's interesting to see that the DZ is almost on the coast and the forest is much bigger than it appears on the video (at least if it is the same DZ). So it can be verywell the case that we are talking here about a "persistent forest" and not only "few trees"...
  12. Can someone explain the way for saving the YouTube videos locally on hard drive? I know some of you are doing it so I'd like first hand information - no references to other websites pls. thank you.
  13. Twardo, in this link (image C) you can see the "turbulence area" (blue arrows) around the trees when the wind blows "from the side". So it can be the case that the trees played a role in this incident even though the wind was not coming from that direction. On the other side this image applies to "persisting forest" so... it is the question if those few trees around DZ can influence the side-wind in the same way... http://www.fao.org/DOCREP/006/J0628E/J0628E47.gif edit: sorry that I couldn't find any better image, but the point is that the wind creates a rotors not only "behind" the obstacles but also on the side of the obstacles. Maybe is this side rotor in combination with thermal convection (vertical winds) potential killer. thank you for advice on approaching this kind of things on windy day.
  14. Pilfy, imho that what you hear is the sound of the collapsing/recovering canopy.
  15. the turbulence is maybe caused by the clouds's shadows on the ground or/and by the differences in the ground temperatures due to different types of the ground... in the weather conditions where that particular type of cloud is developed it is known that vertical air movements can be quite intense. edit: if you watch video carefully you can see that on the left side of the camera guy's canopy - the sky is almost totally covered with clouds, while on his right side there are just a few scattered clouds which means that the landing field is exactly on that "border" between cloudy area and relatively clear sky... this enforces my belief that the significant differences in vertical airspeed were present exactly around the spot where this incident took place.
  16. Does someone know what canopy/WL she had and the actual hight of those trees? The actual wind-speeds (and wind-gusts) for that day would also be helpful. thanks!
  17. it's interesting how the need for showing off can suppress the need for survival... I don't know what kind of "research" have you been doing, but only few months ago at Hollister a woman was killed by the cam. Of course you'll say it was not a cam it was a low turn... The fact was she got a cam on her head and less than 200 formation jumps. If everything goes fine you can even mount a Santa on your helmet and jump with it. But when the s* hits the fan and you have to ACT on it - you'll face a deadly situation you've never been dreamed of... there you'll go with your Santa and your FB-friends eager to see your cool video.
  18. have you seen the video of the last incident on Hollister involving the low timer with a cam? if (or rather - when) this accident happens again you won't be able to see the video - cause they'll start complaining about their privacy, legal issues, family concerns, copyright etc...

    Packing

take some packing courses. it's also a good advice to watch experienced riggers(or dz packers) doing their job on a busy day. You can learn a lot from them. and most of all - practice, practice, practice...
  20. ftp, a bit off topic... it's proven that wikipedia is as reliable as encyclopaedia Britannica.
  21. sounds like preparation for the flight to heaven
  22. I wonder if this was a 2-way at all? if answer is yes, not only poor tracking abilities, but also a direction of opening is kind of weird - they've opened facing each other?
  23. there are some rummors that iranians hacked the communication lines and took full control over the plane... that's maybe the reason selfdestruction mechanism was not activated and they actually landed the plane... sounds strange but not impossible...
