  1. We have different definition of "chicks" Those were some very "handsome" ladies. Compare them to the well dressed fun loving super cute girls in the psych classes and well it's the difference between throwing a bullet and shooting one! It's also freshman engineering? There were always a few good looking "chicks" in freshman engineering class. But by midyear they were gone. They quickly figured out that the average financial engineer not only makes much much MUCH more than your average engineer....but they actually know how to talk to the ladies and aren't so freaking "strange" But it's engineers...making fun of engineers is like...well is there anything more easy? Why go after "easy" targets? Not very sport-like. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
  2. WTF ?!?! That was cute. In Shah's defense. I have met a couple of engineers in the past year or so. Both were utter social misfits, just like Shah describes. #2 Defense OMFG Google bell curve and come back and talk about . something you know. The profession that employee's men and women that doesn't fit the bell curve are exotic dances that make big $$$ for their looks. When the gett old enough their body will change and they will have to find another job. Tiger woods paid a lot of $$$ for his #2 type perfect women.Making fun of someone appearence is what it is.And says a lot of the type of a person you are. I'm guesing you were part of the in crowd in HS and you and your buds would make fun of the girls that didn't put out or fit the cheer leader image and talk loud enough so they could hear you] The first girl I asked out in college wanted to know what kind of a car I drove.I walked out without answering she wasn't the type of person i was lookig for.
  3. Don't know. That whole news blog is all speculation. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
  4. Personally your right but worldwise?? Technology and health is better but i don;t think its so black and white as one might assume. As the food and water supply becomes more and more rare one can only fear what will happen and who will get to drink and eat and who will not. We will notice things last as we are generally much richer than most of the planets population. The Math does not add up. Limited resources It was like that in the olden days also. Lots of limited resources too. The resources of today are different from the resources of yesterday. And you are right. It's not black and white. Resource requirements are different culture to culture, but I've been to many third world countries over the years of Service. And they have higher survival rates than comparatively, the middle ages' general population. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
  5. World wise, per capita, this is the most comfortable time period in human history. I'll take today's "world problems" than the middle ages any day of the week. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

  15. Sounds like a Govt handling problem, not a syle of money problem. Besides, why would you want the dollar to trend upward? Isn't stability what one wants with Gold? Upward can be bad too. But gold is not perfect either. Even if you can "peg" its value, historically, purchase parity was used around its inflexibily therefore the economic system was still able to be manipulated. So the whole argument of "value" are moot points when it comes to "which money system is better" The problems with gold are: It doesn't allow economic capacity to grow because the money supply can't grow with it (this isn't the 1800's). High short-run price voltality, and in the case of deflation, borrowers have a new worry as their debts increase in value while their pay decreases. . .ect. A steady flow of mild inflation is more desirable than a fear of deflation one expects when the money is at null activity from inflation or deflation _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
  16. The video so far displays no new value to the concept of money. He iterates what's basically common knowlege, which is various monies as a medium of exchange and tries to use gold as viable tool. Thing is, he takes to long to get to the point and he's just parroting the standard "gold bug" arguments. This video is salesmanship vs. supporting the gold standard so far that I have seen. I believe the biggest problem with the discussion between the gold standard and the money we have today is the fact that both parties want to do two different things with money. Gold lovers seem to seek out storing value with a medium that provides this ability; others seeks to use money for the purpose that has been established for ancient times: a medium of exchange. That is, a short-term IOU that acts as an escrow to all products and assets are received. Two different money uses here; two different means to an end. If you want to have an instrument that can hold value for an indefinite period of time which you can use to buy, then for all means invest in gold. But if you want an instrument for the purpose of transferring goods or services now, we got our present system. And you can still store value. You buy assets. Here's the thing: We tried to increase the dollar value to gold because it wasn't working at $20 per oz. There was not enough medium to effect the exchange of goods for the ecomomy that existed then. When you peg a currency you make the money inflexible between economies, you can halt trade cause deflation and create a slowdown in the credit flow. And if credit is slowed, you can't move money. Credit is the highway and money is the car. The car is only as useful as the highway it can drive on. It loses value(or in the case of gold, its usefulness) if you can't drive it to it's potential. Money is for trade. It's not for holding on to. If you do it right, there is no issue with your cash losing value on you. Invest. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
  17. You have knowledge of the whole Bretton Woods process. Good. Let me check out the video and then I'll get back to you my thoughts. Edit. I watched the first few minutes of the video and already heard Von Mises thrown out there. Not a good sign as most economists have serious criticisms of his theories. Economists generally argue that Austrian economics lacks scientific rigor, rejects the scientific method, and rejects the use of empirical data. ect. ect. Again, let me watch all three parts. It will be a while as I am plastered off my mind right now (woohoo friday!!) _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

  20. Song lyrics Most people do not listen to inmature bands and their silly lyrics. Our constitution protects bad taste. Most people would not run around saying they were a decorated war veteran. Most people would find those type individuals disgusting and would support a law (passed in 2006) that made it a crime..... ....The supreme court upheld these peoples right to free speech. http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/2012/06/scotus-stolen-valor-ruling My reply was to point out that people may not recognize what was being said as a quote from somewhere else. A lot of music of bad taste have quotes that naked of bibliography, sounds very threatening. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

  23. I believe he was actually a "nerd". But it doesn't matter. My opinion of successful people of that genera: One of the greatest coming of age aspects of graduating high school is the fact that labels such as "dorks", "geeks" and "nerds" cease to have any importance in pecking order in life. If anything, it's telling of of an adult who still use the phrases to put down any group(recognize a certain poster who uses this tactic, anyone?) The best has been called one of these three things in their adolescence at least once. Thank progress for them. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
  24. The band Rush. Brilliant musicianship and they got better (not neccessairly marketable) through the years. I learned practically all Neil Pert's playing. . .having a hard time with music after Test for Echos. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
  25. Joint Chiefs of Staff are not in any operational responsibility or control of military action. They are military expierience/advisors to the Office of the Presidency and provide logistical support (not orders) to the Theater Commanders like General Petraeus, Navy Fifth Fleet and others. Theater commanders' COC is the President via Sec Def. Might be the way it is now...I don't think it was in 1980. Oh. Got it. Thanks!!
