  1. I am reposting because I posted the wrong video before and deleted the post. Apparently this guy couldn't deploy his pilot chute or activate his reserve so he waited for his aad to fire. I just think this is pretty crazy. I dont know how to make it a click link, sorry for that. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQmIu_mQ04o
  2. Correct link. Sorry I am a Marine and a buddy sent that to me. I deleted it. Here is the right one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQmIu_mQ04o
  3. This is absolutely crazy. Apparently the skydiver couldn't get his pilot chute out and could not activate his reserve canopy so he waited for his AAD. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Es5siP0VifY Sorry if this does not show up as a clickable link Im not quite sure how to do that.
  4. Thanks for the input. I think Im going to keep the 170 I really love the canopy. I was just concerned about keeping a 170 in my container but it fits and its not overly tight.
  5. I think I will be trying to find a new reserve tomorrow down at Deland, I really like my 170 and want to keep it so I think I will. Hopefully I can get my hands on a 143 asap.
  6. So should I keep my 170 in my V310 for another 20-40 jumps and then downsize to a 150?
  7. I'm going to look at getting a 143 for it and to the above poster who asked about down sizing to a 150 even though I wanted a 170. I do want a 170 but if its not supposed to go in my container than I want a 150 because that does fit. I didn't choose the 170 because I can't handle the 150 because I can and have. My goal is to be as safe as possible and it sounds like I am not doing that good of a job right now. So after reading this it sounds like the best option is to trade in both canopies and get a storm 150 and a 143 reserve. I love the storm canopies so I know I want that. Does this sound like a safe bet to you all or what do you all recommend? Go even bigger on the reserve canopy?
  8. I have flown the 150 before with no problems. I just wanted the 170 for reasons stated above. And I am going to be talking to the jumpmaster who told me a 126 would be no problem flying again. I had not discussed the two out situation with him because it did not come to me at the time. And to everyone who has commented on this, I do appreciate it and I will be looking into this again with the people who said this rig would be good to go. I am going to the dropzone tomorrow and I will let you all know what happens. I literally bought this rig on Saturday so I am sure they will be accomidating changing out the main and reserve if I need to. Thanks again everyone. I have never intended to push beyond my limits in this sport because I know what happens, people die. However I am new to all of this and my knowledge when it comes to gear is pretty insignificant so I only trusted what two certified jumpmasters with thousands of jumps who have seen me jump a number of times tell me. Thanks again.
  9. I have put two jumps on this rig since I got it and am just finding out that 170's are not supposed to go into V310s. It had been a rental rig with a 170 in it and the rigger who put my canopy on and in my container (different rigger than the one that said a 126 reserve would be good to go) never mentioned the fact that the 170 should not be in that container. This is making me think that I might even trade for a 150 because I am not to keen on the idea of having a canopy in a container it is not supposed to be in. However, I did pack the 170 last night and had no problem getting it into the container but it does make me wonder if I am in store for a container lock soon.
  10. I chose to go with the 170 over a 150 because I like being in the air under canopy. I handle the 150 just fine and it wasn't that I wanted a slower canopy I just like being in the air a little bit longer. I did buy a small container because I am a very small framed person I weigh 130-135lbs. on any given day without gear. I had such a hard time finding a container that would fit me and the 126 fit in there perfectly and at the time I need to use my reserve I will not be concerned with just hanging out in the air. I was also told by another AFF instructor that the 126 will fly just a little faster than the Storm 150 so I am not concerned about my ability to land the 126.
  11. I'm not looking to get into arguements over this. However, I would never hesitate to use my reserve if the situation warranted it. I feel fully capable flying the canopy and so does a jumpmaster with over 10,000 jumps and an AFF instructor with over 5000 jumps. I don't discount the opinions on these forums and I wasn't seeking advice. As people always say on here. Take what you read on here with a grain of salt and consult an instructor. I did just that. I didn't order the canopy online I bought it after hours of discussion with someone who knew my skill level under canopy. I do appreciate the opinions on here and I will demo the canopy at some point. Thanks.
  12. No. It was from a rental rig. They had a 150 main canopy in the container I just wanted a 170 so I switched out the canopies for a storm 170.
  13. I talked with a number of the AFF instructors who I have jumped with and they all said it would be ok for me flying a 126. I almost bought a 150 for my main but I wanted a more conservative canopy just for personal reasons but they said if I have to fly a 126 reserve I would have no problem.
  14. I just bought my first rig down at Deland. I am pretty excited and got to do two jumps on it yesterday. I got a Vector V310 with a Storm 170 and a PD Reserve 126. I know I will probably catch some flack for having such a small reserve on a big main, but I talked extensively with the jumpmaster and rigger down at Deland that said it would be just fine.
  15. Those countries are not countries where people have religious freedoms, or freedom of speech. I'm a U.S. Marine and as much as I don't want a Mosque to go near ground zero. Those people have the same rights as anyone of us have. So the question is are we going to deny people rights because they practice a different religion? It seems that is what the majority of the public wants. Should it only be Christians that can practice freedom of religion? If the U.S. or the State of New York denies these people there freedoms at what point will it be my freedoms that start getting denied and then the whole basis of a free country is now negating itself. I personally think that these people should be able to build their Mosque it is not on ground zero and the sight they planned on occupying is not a historical site no matter how many people on the New York legislature try to say that a 100 year old Burlington Coat Factory say it is. In addition lets not forget that it wasn't the Muslim faith that attacked us on 9/11 it was a group of radicals that are Muslims. I have friends who are Marines that are Muslim should I be worried that they are going to attack the U.S. because they are Muslim?
  16. "After about two minutes of free-fall, Marcus pulled the chute open and we jerked to an upright position." I love this.
  17. Happy Birthday, is anyone going to the Marine Security Forces Kings Bay ball?
  18. Can you please explain what a downplane situation is?
  19. I know this thread has been beat to death, however I think you adapt to fear and it changes. I still am nervous on each jump but not scared like I was on AFF. Im not sure I want the fear to completely subside because at that point, and even though I only have 18 jumps with no cutaways, I think at that point I would be bored with skydiving and wouldn't be motivated to do it anymore. Part of skydiving is the nervousness or fear you get, its the adrenaline rush that keeps somebody to keep paying $21 plus a jump to do what they really enjoy.
  20. I always do enjoy the dumb ass comments that make it into each thread. It seems like it should be a rule that someone has to make some stupid comments when someone is trying to seek information. For those who actually contributed something, I really appreciate it.
  21. That is a great question. I do not think I would have cutaway because that thought crossed my mind but I felt I was entirely too low. I probably would have continued to pump my risers as hard as I could have and then hold them back as hard as I could in order to try to get the canopy into the flair. But I honestly can't say for sure what I would have done.
  22. The brake handle was not in the silver ring but it was stuck in the loop that the line makes around the brake handle.
  23. This is exactly what happened to me, Im glad I could finally explain it in a semi-correct way where someone understands. I will make sure an instructor or a rigger gets a chance to look at the rig so he can determine what needs to be done to it.
