Ratings and Rigging

  • Pro Rating
    Yes
  1. Someone seriously gave you an AFF rating when you have 300 jumps over 7 years? "loving each other" is not a good antidote to the dying stuff that's happening.
  2. http://www.theage.com.au/world/wild-colt-20091223-ldh6.html He might be a very naughty boy, but props that he keeps trying. He might land one successfully yet.
  3. http://www.smh.com.au/digital-life/digital-life-news/catch-me-if-you-can-barefoot-teen-delinquent-becomes-internet-idol-20091218-l5os.html There has to be something said for a kid who keeps pinching planes but doesn't know how to land them.
  4. I had several failed attempts to quit smoking using hypnosis, gum, patches etc. During that time, I met several successful quitters who told me they used Alan Carr's Quit Smoking book and it worked like magic. I was totally skeptical and never bothered even picking it up. Finally, I downloaded the audio book to my ipod. It told me to keep smoking while I listened and by the end of it I would magically be a non-smoker and never feel like smoking again. I was still skeptical. It worked. I don't know how or why, but I haven't even had a craving since finishing that audio book nearly 6 months ago. Been through all the danger times and have not found it difficult at all - I haven't even felt like I've had to 'resist' anything. So yeah, I am the greatest skeptic turned greatest convert. Best 7 quid I ever spent.
  5. "Australian atheists are under attack, with the websites of both the Atheist Foundation of Australia and the Global Atheist Convention knocked offline in a major cyber attack yesterday afternoon." http://www.theage.com.au/technology/security/atheist-websites-smitten-by-cyber-attack-20091021-h7ul.html If the religious nuts are so sure they are right, why the need to silence the athiests? Surely the fact that they are all going to hell should be punishment enough.
  6. Orange's website makes it pretty clear if anyone has any questions about kids at the DZ. http://www.skydiveorange.com/kids.htm That is easily the most awesome thing I have ever read on a dropzone site. I want to go to Orange and give them all my money.
  7. Why the hell is this of-topic rant in the skydiving forum instead of the bonfire? Nothing pisses me off more than seeing non-skydiving related crap in the skydiving forums. Are you arrogant enough to think your opinion is SO important you don't want it to get lost in the bonfire where it belongs? Some people don't come here to post post post but to actually read about skydiving instead of this OT crap. Hope a mod moves it soon.
  8. My desk is literally covered with drool after reading that. Fantastic review. Thanks.

    Another suit

Yes. It is called the insurer's right to subrogation. If you have personal injury/accident insurance, by accepting a payout from them you agree to let them "step into your shoes" and try to recover the money they have paid you in any manner you would have been able to had they not paid out. Once they pay you, they will determine whether a suit is likely to put them in front money-wise and, if so, they will sue in YOUR name. Effectively, YOU are suing the DZ, but you don't get any payoff, because you decided to recover from the insurance instead of doing the legwork for suing yourself. But it is still YOU suing. So, if you have accident insurance and you are harmed in a way that can be attributed to a DZ's negligence, don't accept the payout from the insurance company if you really believe in not suing. Wiki entry on how insurer's right to subrogation works here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subrogation
  10. Honestly, if you had an 18 year old son you might feel differently. Peer pressure is so HUGE at that age, having an excuse is almost a necessity. Sure, most who "choose" will come out okay. But the consequences for "choosing" not to (of course it's not because your friends call you a pussy!) can be so unnecessarily catastrophic. Morally opposed to intervention, but secretly glad of this one.
  11. People buy in that sort of quantity??? Oz $ $A300 per oz. For the good stuff. Can pick up cheaper.
  12. I invite you to find a pilot willing to take you up and let you try to tighten up your rig and open the door or doors while under a rapid high G descent, once your done with that do it again this time add in a spin, let us know how well it gose and get video too. This statement is what I'm calling bullshit on, and again you fail to grasp the reality of the forces at play in a out of control aircraft. How did the pilot in this crash: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/safety/detail_page.cgi?ID=225 get out of a Caravan with no tail spinning to the ground, door down? Never say die, I say.
