"Generational stagnation" is why warbird pilots buy PEPs containing round parachutes. 50 years ago, they learned that the best engines were round, the best instruments were round and the best tail-wheels were round! And please don't waste your time trying to tell them anything new! Hummpppfff!***.....edit to say, my URL failed. It was youtube ...Myth Busters Square Wheels ....but like always, not funny if you have explain the joke. Those old warbird pilots might be on to something, insisting on round wheels on tail draggers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QF7odK55gkl Life is short ... jump often.

My First Cutaway: Jump 14

No matter what jammed the line .... you made a good choice to cut-away. You can find the cause of the jam on the ground later. Life is short ... jump often. -

Repack time? Share with a noob. :)
jumpsalot-2 replied to JohnMitchell's topic in Safety and Training
I would love to try this. I just pulled mine for a repack, had an instructor hanging onto my harness, pulling and spinning me, and it was an experience, but nothing like this. It wasn't as difficult as I'd expected, but I didn't clear the left-hand cable right away, and took an extra second to clear it before pulling the reserve. Probably didn't need to waste that extra second since the RSL would've had that out almost immediately, but it was still a good learning experience. I would still like to do it in a hanging harness, though.Ummmm ........ what side was the RSL on ? Did you hesitate long enough to steamer your main while your reserve was deploying ? Sony FDR-AX53 and Alpha A6300 with 16mm Pancake
jumpsalot-2 replied to CTSkydiver's topic in Photography and Video
Thanks for your reply. I have 1000+ tandem vids with my CX110. I might take it with me to Best Buy and see if I can find a running AX-53 to compare FOV. Life is short ... jump often. -
Sony FDR-AX53 and Alpha A6300 with 16mm Pancake
jumpsalot-2 replied to CTSkydiver's topic in Photography and Video
How is the field of view on the AX-53 ? Will it match a 16mm without a wide lens attached ? Will it still auto focus if a wide angle lens is attached ? Can you still get the awesome depth of field with a wide angle lens attached ? Is it working out for skydiving vids ? Life is short ... jump often. -
It's been a long year since Walt passed away. He had been away from Lincoln for a good year, jumping elsewhere. He just could not stay away from his passion of manicuring and caring for that pond of his. I called it Walt's Pond, but that just embarrassed him. The origination of the pond was by Pete Galli, he worked his ass off to get it established. Anytime a canopy comp was coming Walt would be there working, alone mostly, getting it in perfect shape for himself and his canopy pilot family. Walt took his canopy flying very seriously and had a competitive nature. He did countless low passes to improve his technique. I believe his fellow competitors new him as their brother because of all his effort ....... and he was a damn good swooper, period. I took a thousand jump runs with Walt, and took hundreds of stills and vids of him. I don't have a single one left. They were all erased after a quick look by him. Why would I save them. I saw him everyday, and I'd see him tomorrow, right ? ............. miss you Walt. Life is short ... jump often.

If there was just a young freshman skydiver out there. A blond maybe. A young freshman girl skydiver would be a good choice. Hmmmmmmmm. Who would fit that description ? Life is short ... jump often.

Agreed. The coldest that I have exited multiple times is -07 f. Open face helmet (always). Cold, but not bad. My advice, for what it's worth ...... protect your hands in cold weather. They seem to be most vulnerable. Life is short ... jump often.

Hi BrianM. Good post .......but ........... have you ever looked out the driver's window of your electric car and seen a canopy pilot flying beside you, going the same direction, with his main rigged backwards ........ like in the commercial ? Life is short ... jump often. -
