  4. Thanks for the link. Interesting. Other thoughts; -I know a lot of people who bought Groupons got really unhappy when they couldn't get their jumps on the day they wanted. Does that make people think the local DZ is a scam artist? -If you see a Groupon for $149, does that make you believe that's what the product is selling for, and therefore depress the market? HW
  5. One of the proposed topics for the February DZO conference is Groupon, if you haven't heard of it, is one of a nationwide set of sites which offers discounts on all sorts of things, including tandems. A local DZ sold more than 2,000 Groupons for tandems at $149 (regular price > $200.) Since they were paying a commission to Groupon, I'm guessing they were getting ~ $120 or so. I'm told, however, that many of the Groupons were never redeemed, so it might have been a pretty profitable venture. Other DZs and tunnels are also offering them. I'd be curious about how they've worked out. HW
  6. Last Sunday was my 45th. I jumped my Sabre. HW
  7. The only thing to add was that there was Velcro on the OSI between the color bands. Or am I out of my mind? I might have jumped one; don't remember. HW
  8. OK, it's a Sierra Light. What surprises me is that it was in the October, 1977 Parachutist. The cover story was the '77 Nationals and the only canopy picture from that Nationals was a square. Most of the other canopy ads in that issue were for squares (well, there was also a Piglet "23" main). A period of transition. I wonder how many Sierras were made/sold. HW
  9. Nice. Most old farts here will know, but talk about the strap hanging off the bottom of the canopy. HW
  10. Wait. And no one's got the year right. HW

  13. The military doesn't seem to have a problem with this. Lots of Rigger Rodeos -- Google it. HW
  14. A new feature at the PIA Symposium in Reno in February is the "Rigger Rodeo," a contest for the fastest reserve pack job. The competition is a single-elimination tournament. Each round will consist of one or more pairs of riggers; each pair will pack identical harness/container/reserve systems. The faster rigger of each pair will advance to the next round. It's limited to 24 contestants, but other riggers can observe and learn. More info is on the PIA website. (It's a PDF file -- click on the link to download the description and a link to the registration form.) HW (wearing PIA hat.)

  18. Wonderful what you can learn by Googling. ***Parachuting: a guide to Skydiving Parachuting, as the word implies, is a business that literally sink the sky with some security measures, of course. Made from a plane or a helicopter taking off from a drop zone, which is like a small air base. Bird's eye Skydiving If you intend to do this activity breathing, then you should be prepared to learn that the paratroopers normally exit their aircraft at height of 4000 meters or 13,000 feet. After that, you have to do a free fall for a period of time and then you can open your parachute to slow its descent to arrive at a safe speed and slow landing. In general, the chute should be fully inflated height of 2,500 m. In fact, part of the law that paratroopers were to go with two falls. One would be the main parachute and reserve the other would be, if the main parachute would fail. Once your parachute is in total inflation, now has the opportunity to control the speed and direction, using the address lines of his parachute. With this, the technical maneuvers could be executed by experienced skydivers to give them the ability to land accurately. In fact, there are even competitions for be able to land at a specific location with greater precision and style. Apart from the group on the plane, opening a parachute and float its way to Earth, parachuting, also have some specialty areas, and here are a few. Parachuting: The creation of art While You Fall During the period of the jump in free fall, some experienced skydivers came together to create and organize various training before break and open your parachute and fall to earth as normal skydiving. In fact, the world record for this type of skydiving is actually a 400 Diving. Training was conducted in 4.25 seconds altitude of 25,000 feet in Udon Thai, Thailand. Freestyle Skydiving: single This type of diving can be very entertaining. It is where the paratrooper who perform some acrobatic maneuvers and stunts, such as rolls, falls, and the formation of free itself throughout the period of free fall before opening his parachute. Freestyle dives should also the participation of another skydiver. The piston of the second, on the contrary would not do any stunt. However, he would shoot performance of their partners through a camera mounted on the helmet. This type of diving is actually a competitive sport that has been registered in 1996 declared by the ISP. Free Flight: Do It Your Way This is considered the art of controlling your body and have the ability to move in different static positions while you are in a period of free fall before opening his jump parachute. If you want to dive well, you have to make the flight maneuvers, such as sitting, Flying back and head down. These allow you to have better control its speed and trajectory. You also have to make some rolls or falls at the end of free fall practice so you can safely deploy his parachute when you arrive at the correct height.
