  1. For those of you who have the FX helmet, could you help me out a little on sizing? I saw this helmet once and kind of fell in love with it for purely aesthetic reasons. The clear purple is just so pretty! Anyway, I tried on the large just for fun and thought it fit pretty good at the time, but never really thought I'd spend the money to actually buy it. Now that I'm considering buying it (but live somewhere where there is no place to try it on), I'm not sure whether I'll need a medium or large. I was told the FX helmet runs a little small, but I'm usually a small or medium. My forehead measures 22inches around. Can anyone offer some insight so that I can try and avoid extra return and shipping chargres? Thanks!
  2. Why wouldn't you say anything? In the worst case scenario, the individual doesn't listen to you and gets hurt, but at least you wont be sitting around questioning "i wonder if I should have said something". Hopefully, no one else gets hurt as a result because everyone else is aware that this person is a fool and is looking out for them. If you try talking to this person and they blow you off and now decide they don't like you anymore... who cares, you don't want to jump with them anyway. I observed one girl at my home DZ who couldn't for the life of her fly a landing pattern. I mentioned this to the instructors who then had a talk with her. Didn't keep her from flying too close to some trees one day, catching turbulence, landing hard, and hurting her back. Whether or not someone listens based off of something I've reported up the "Chain of command" is out of my control, but at least I know I did my part...
  3. I don't post much, but... I imagine one of the major issues with taking children for tandems is having the proper fitting harnesses. If you have a specially constructed harness that ensures small children the same level of safety as a regular harness does for those who are 18 and older, I guess it's up to parents and children to decide whether or not it's something they want to do. As for jumping with animals... that seems pretty wrong. It's one thing if you're jumping with a search and rescue dog because there is a greater good. Plus, these teams are probably jumping from lower altitude and under canopy quickly so that the dogs aren't subject to freefall for extended periods of time. Owners who jump with their pets have no idea whether or not they are enjoying themselves and so it seems fairly selfish...
  4. Thanks for the replies! As soon as I get enough time to make it up toward Kalispell, I'll definitely try and get in touch with Fred. There actually seems to be more opportunity for skydiving around here than I expected. It's not quite living five minutes from a DZ, but I remain hopeful!
  5. I just moved out to Great Falls, MT (stationed at Malmstrom) and I'm trying to find some other local skydivers who might be interested in organizing trips to jump or even to the tunnel. Is there anyone out there??
  6. I'm going to be in Great Falls. I'll be about 3 hours from bozeman, that's not too bad. 5 hours from Lost Prairie, though. If you get any info on the new DZ your friends are opening, pass it my way please!
  7. Haha, hey Beth. Sky diving definitely beats fencing any day of the week. As for the big move to Montana... I was excited until I came out here to Cali. Now I never want to leave! I've only been here for a few months. Air Force requires that I be in MT, though.
  8. Hey All. I've finally decided to post and not just lurk. I've done two tandems and completed my AFP lvl 1 jump last weekend. I'm hoping to finish the rest ASAP. I know I just started, but I think I'm in love I'm currently in Southern California, but will be moving to Montana soon. I'd like to knock out my A license before then. I'm already concerned about my limited options in big sky country!
