I did my first jump on a 260 from then on I was usually jumping a 240 Navigator through the rest of AFF until I got my own rig. I was 225 naked at the time. Never knew any better at the time.

I have been jumping at Sky's the Limit for the whole summer and only had one day when they were flying the Sky Van. they do fly it when it is there but I think they rent it out a lot. I'd give them a call to see if it's around before heading up there.

Being towed up, thinking that the chest strap will break if he gets into a lock up situation. It seems like it would be much safer to launch from a slope, but of course not so convenient if a suitable hill is not available. Exactly this. It's not the building of the canopy that that worries me, I too am fairly impressed by the progress he has made. but the testing methods. Doing things that are known to be unsafe and not taking enough time to make sure you are being as safe as possible.

This is exactly what I was going to say. 5.samadhi, you are saying the buyer should have the right to buy what they want but why shouldn't the seller have the right to not sell to somebody they don't want to sell to. What about the personal autonomy of the seller? Why should the buyers need trump the sellers? The seller has a role in this transaction and has all the right to decide it is a transaction she doesn't want to be involved in. Your argument would carry weight if there was a third party stepping in to prevent the transaction.

If you are concerned can't you just take it out for the jump?

I would say "no". But the loose fit to your back means the container is going to wiggle around a bit behind you, which can make precision flying a little more difficult, because of the constantly shifting weight. I always find it a little distracting to fly up behind someone in a formation and to watch a rig dancing around on someone's back. And it could shift enough to make it pretty hard to find your hackey. And makes it easier to fall out The hackey or the skydiver?

I am going to ignore your question and talk about something else. Look at Brian Germain's chart for downsizing. http://www.bigairsportz.com/pdf/bas-sizingchart.pdf At your size (which also happens to be my size) he recommends a 230, unless you instructors disagree this would be a better place to start looking and you should find a lot more options. The reasoning is that at large sizes, canopies are more docile and thus you can increase your wing loading above the recommended 1.0 as long as you go with a more docile beginner canopy (like a Pilot). And why wait to buy a rig. I'd start looking at secondhand stuff now and buy pieces as they become available.

Where are you going to do your AFF? Some place will do the first three jumps as tandems instead of jumping with two instructors for the first three jumps. Then jump 4 onwards will be the same (one instructor).

I really am glad you will recover. I had a friend who wasn't as lucky. Similar story to you but he wasn't quite as cocky. Unfortunately I don't think he had as many people looking out for him as you did and he was flying a crossfire with a wing-loading over 1.5. The problem is nobody was actively telling him to slow down (at least not as far as I saw) and at around 500 jumps he fucked up a swoop, injured his C5 and is now paralyzed from the chest down. His problem was he was always the guy who picked u things quicker than anybody else. Best Climber/ Snowboarder ect in our group. So when he was progressing faster than others nobody said anything. Not sure if it would have matterd but I wish I hadknown more as I would have said something. VB saved you. and you got lucky by a few feet. Lots to consider. Hope the healing goes well. Keeps us updated, you are very famous now.
