  1. It would take a lot of balls to chop your first solo jump. I don't know if I would have in your situation, either. Next time you know what to do, glad you're safe have fun jumping. Keep a checklist of steps after deployment and go on rules based thinking.
  2. http://searchengineland.com/search-in-pics-sergey-brin-skydiving-google-marching-in-gay-parade-truck-pit-cafe-84018 Late June - so, jumping is not just for broke nut jobs ;-) But c'mon 18 billion dollars and using rental gear.... Jeff
  3. I run/cycle regularly. My experience is that both powerbar/cliff bar provides the same energy boost and for $1.00/bar on amazon they're a good deal. On a 3 hr ride, 57 miles or so I eat 3 bars and have about 2 quarts of gatorade. At day's end - your body needs simple sugars and protein during hard aerobic exercise, in the approximate proportion of: 3:1, simple carbs:protein There are many companies with offerings in this space but your body doesn't know whether sugar/protein came from mgf A or mfg B. enjoy the workouts, Jeff
  4. Sounds like there has been tens of thousands in fraud...why not chip in another $200 a piece (per defrauded customer) and send this guy to the hospital; surely the scumbag is still around. Make it's worth his while. He f*cked you man. Jeff
  5. Yeah man I'm more dangerous than skydiving itself :-) argue on rational grounds -ad hominem BS doesn't work in the real world.
  6. if I had all the facts I would climb to the front of the plan, open the door and leave. Why land under a dead stick with 17 jumpers??? pilot in command? lots of pilots were in command until they died.
  7. It's a basic safety recommendation. In a world where everyone has advice....but don't forget that no one who died jumping expected to. you're welcome. Jeff
  8. in a general reply all - this is such a STUPID discussion. If you want to jump camera put in on your head, read the SIM and f'n jump. Try to minimize snag risk, don't pull upside down and get an audible altimeter. IF the DZO tells you not to jump it, go elsewhere or take it off. It's naive to discuss small probabilities. It makes an ass out of the one asking the question and bigger asses out of those replying. Skydiving can kill you, no shit LOL. Half of you wouldn't be jumping if the case were otherwise, all you crazy daredevils. You can BASE at 100 jumps....talk about more dangerous, shit. But I digress ;-) Jeff
  9. Let's not bulshit ourselves - Jokke Sommer or anyone who flies as aggressively as he will die in no less than a few years if he keeps pushing it the way he does. I respect his courage, but 'it is what it is'. A PHX Fly team member just passed recently. Mirko, who I did not know. It's not a question of right or wrong, just what they do. I love the videos and find them amazing, but it's no video game. best, Jeff
  10. don't mistake 'hasn't happened yet' for 'will never happen'. Not my idea but: Happy early thanksgiving, Jeff
  11. what about a lift from the airport? Good ideas -- I just want to see the trip as: jet blue + jump tickets + food + minor lodging car + howard johnson ends up being like $600 some how.
  12. Probably won't make a big difference if you always fly well, but if you get into a bit of a hairy situation (which you will of course) it could be the difference between a limpy walk back to the packing mat and getting dragged back. I started with a .95:1 and it was perfect, 1.1 might have gotten me into trouble a few times looking back on it, all else =.
  13. I know Eloy has the skyrider inn. What about DeLand or Zhills? How much can I get 5 days of accommodations for? You stay at a real hotel or do people have cheaper rentals? Jeff
  14. Not a jab at anyone - just a different perspective on thinking about safety using a tool/data source that many people 'have'.
  15. Post the canopy portion of a recent video (helmet cam) - I want to see what you're looking at and how frequently you're looking around for traffic. Jeff
  16. I have less 'knowledge' than most here but I did have one experience. I did a 3-way dive and we all lost alti awareness (someone was holding my wrist covering my altimeter - really f'n stupid don't do it lol). Jump 30 maybe? 3.5k his audible whistles, he breaks off, 3k goes by I begin to track away. Tracking hard so I go unstable, 2.5k, on my back glimpse at my alti, 2.2k'ish attempting to get on my belly and threw out PC at about 1.9k because in that split second I felt the 500+ft required to get 'stable' would not be worth the too low deployment altitude. It was a pull priority calculation and all I got was the riser smacking the shit out of me. Under canopy by 1.4k'ish and landed alright. Key thing was I was not upside down but sideways...still not stable nonetheless. Brand new G4 mirage 210 pilot and brand new cypres 2 so I always had 'faith' in my gear whatever that means. Lesson learned on many fronts. Jeff
  17. I mean that I don't see many incident reports involving post AFF students. We should be doing what we can to get USPA members (ultimately lic'd jumpers) up to 40k I don't see this helping anything.
  18. HUGE turn off to the sport - people can't even afford to do a tandem and now jumps 9 through 25 will cost upward of $100 each w/gear rental. The experienced people are killing themselves not students. Idiots. Jeff
  19. I did 10 mins before Cat A, then 20 mins after Cat B and repeated no levels/got licensed on 26th jump. Good investment.
  20. don't think about what to do...focus on what you should NOT do :-) you've amassed quite a bit of experience of what not to do so you're probably almost there. keep jumping you'll get it sooner or later...don't over think it...make sure your gear is good and jump.
  21. you just have to jump more - you will probably be very afraid on many jumps through your A license. After that it gets interesting though...good luck!
  22. List time in market for each mgf: cypres - 1991 or 20 years vigil - 1997 or 14 years argus - well, no longer in biz apparently if you review website that's how I chose mine.
