  1. Hi, I have been discussing with my instructors things I can try up high (>2000) to familirize myself more with my pilot 168. Among those is double front risers...and front riser turns. Specifically, knowing the canopy recovery arc. I find it hard to see how much altitude I have lost on a front riser turn by just looking at the altimeter (analog). I have noticed that when I pay attention to how the harness feels (how hard it is pulling) I can sort of see when I am recovering from the turn. Bottom line is... any tips on how you really go about knowing your canopy recovery arc??? Thanks
  2. I agree 100% with you. However...that's if you check the unit display before the jump (I do check it before each jump and agree with your three cases). If you only check the pin...how would that show the AAD partially cut the loop (what the OP posted)? There are a bunch of skydivers out there that only check the unit when they first turn it on and then forget about it (which I think is wrong). I think part of the assumption of the OP is that the container does not stay completetly shut after the loop is partially cut...but what if it stays shut. P.S. I own an Argus (bought it new in 2009)
  3. "Couldn't the dangers related to partially cut closing loops be solved then by a pin check before boarding the plane" Maybe I am misunderstanding but how would a pin check allow you to notice a partially cut loop? Checking the display of the unit should show the unit fired but since the loop is inside the container how can checking the pin help determine so...?
  4. . Yep it should be soft links and not slinks. That created the confusion.
  5. The PD slinks have tabs but the Aerodyne have metal rings. I have seen people with these Aerodyne slinks without any form of tacking (on the main canopy...not sure if their riggers tacked the reserve). I would think since people are most familiar with PD slinks (which are not required to be tacked, per the manual, but lots of people do anyway) when they see the Aerodyne slinks they assume it does not require any form of tacking neither. Even on some mains where I have seen tacking of Aerodyne's slinks, it was not done per the manual. But then again, if it is not that important how it is tacked (if tacked at all) then it should be ok. I am no rigger, I just like to read all manuals and am very curious about gear.
  6. Hi, Aerodyne's Smart reserve manual specifies a way to supertack the reserve riser after installing the slinks. My question is: is this a requirement? Would it stop the reserve from operating correctly? i.e. lines disconnecting from the risers if not supertacked? Blue Ones, Erick
  7. That is all posible (gear issues). The issue, at least for me, is that effectively I can't jump my Argus because I have to take it out of my javelin container. I could get a Racer and stick my Argus in there . But that would be more expensive than buying me a Cypress II or jumping without an AAD. Bottom line, I don't know if a conspiracy or not but my Argus is usesless on my javelin and I am grounded for this weekend .
  8. I am getting a Cypress 2 (on its way). My Argus is useless by now
  9. I guess it officially sucks for me too. Javelin service bulletin bans Argus AAD from all their containers/harness until Argus shows an understanding of the root cause of the problem and a viable solution. Well I guess I can do a practive cut-away and reserve pull in my apartment...
  10. That's got to suck. I have an Argus too (DOM 2009) but in a Javelin (no sure if they will kick the Argus out too). I am wondering what the hell to do: Let's see : 1) Sell it before it starts loosing value and buy a Vigil or a Cypress. 2) Keep it and hope problems sort out (cutters replaced ...blah...blah) or let it loose value (in case things really go bad) and throw it away. I am curious to see what happens...
  11. Sorry. Yes. That is what I intended to write. Too long the container will be loose...shorter the container is tighter. I will edit the post so I avoid confusion.
  12. I just tried one of those power tools today and loved it. Specially, I like how easy it is to close the container flaps in one move without having to pull, go thru a flap, pull, go thru, flap...and so on. The down side is that they are more expensive to the ubiquitous pull up cords. As far as the closing loop length I experimented with different lengths and noticed the force required to pull the pin increased (with shorted loop) a little but not much. I think I had my closing loop too long because when I sitted on my container or pressed down on it a little bit the pin would be loose and would come out easy (kind of scary when you consider all the sitting and shifting around on an aircraft). Thanks all for the feedback
  13. Hi, Can anyone explain the use of power tools to close a rig (when closing the main)? Is this just to make the job easier or is it because the closing loop is too damn short in the first place? Wouldn't the short closing loop potentially cause a pilot chute in tow? Pardon my ignorance Blue Skies, Erick
  14. Maybe BASE jumping will have a similar trend (or is already having it) where as the sport gets "safer" more people participate in it and this causes more regulation and the frustration of the more experienced BASE jumping community. While jumping a round parachute wouldn't a high pull put the jumper for a longer period of time at the mercy of the winds (making an outside landing more likely)? I wonder if this was also one of the contributing factors for low pulls back in the days? Either way I still think whoever feels confortable pulling higher should do so and whoever doesn't then go ahead and pull lower. If I have to jump in a big way and have to pull way lower than I am confortable for my skill level then I will just abstain from making that jump in the first place.
  15. I started flying a triathlon 190 after I got my A-license. The flare felt different from 9 cells but once I got used to it flares were awesome. I loved my triathlon 190. Now I am jumping a Pilot 168, which is a 9 cells, and I love it too. I think you should demo both (7 cells and 9 cells) and see what you think. I have friends who love 7 cells and others who love 9 cells. Blue Skies
  16. Aerodyne distributor Mike Mullins is the man. We came to a resolution and I am very happy/satisfied.
  17. I am sharing my opinion in the forum. That is what the forum is here for. I have not complained about their product. People can read the post and come to their conclusion. Do you or others think I am overreacting and have not reason to not want to buy a Pilot over this? If so you/they can post their opinion (as has being done). That somebody will read the title and come to a premature conclusion is not my responsability. As can be seem most people do not even agree with my opinion.
  18. I see no nessecity of you using the f word. I am sharing my opinion in the forum.
  19. Being disappointed with a glitch does not imply a future disappointment with skydiving. If you chose not to have service with AT&T because you bought a $20/month high speed internet package over their website that happened to be a glitch "...then you will be sorely disappointed in a lot of things..." with internet surfing. I don't think they go together.
  20. It is not all about the glitch. They did not do anything to fix the problem other than let me know the price was incorrect and send me somewhere (i.e. to some dealer that sells their products). They could have offered a reasonable discount. And no this was not just a typo in a Pilot 168 price listing; I am talking about every pilot canopy size group on the stock list having a lower and different from each other price.
  21. I wake up this morning and see a Pilot 168 for about $1300 in Aerodyne's stock list. I inmideately bought it. Then I get a call to inform me that it was a glitch in the system and that they can't sell it for that price. I really appreciate their call and everything but I am very dissapointed as I really was expecting my pilot 168. I will not purchase a Pilot now but something else. Nothing wrong with the pilot or Aerodyne's products (I have a Smart reserve and jump a Triathlon 190) it just that I am pissed. Is it reasonable to be dissapointed? I guess this is one of those too good to be true instances... blue ones
  22. Hello, Anybody knows the price of demoing a Fusion canopy from Precision Aerodynamics? Blues Ones...
