  1. I just recently (last week) sent my rig into Sunrise Rigging to have my reserve flap modified to a larger size so that it would not come out while freeflying. I have to say that the people at Sunrise have really great service and they really took care of me. I'd recommend a Wings container (and have) to anyone looking for a new container. Just thought I should let everyone know what you're missing if you aren't jumping one. Austin
  2. Decoy, We'll have to meet up sometime, I jump at Skydive KS in Osage City. Austin
  3. I'll be there Friday evening through Monday :) Austin
  4. Seedy, How often are you at Skydive KS? I've been out there pretty much every weekend this summer and I don't think I've met you. I'll ask Jen to point you out next time I'm out there (won't be this weekend though...I'm going to Couch freaks!!!) Austin
  5. Happy early birthday Amber! remember to have fun Austin
  6. That's what we were told at the AFA when I went through their freefall program. The ground school there is MUCH more thorough than static line ground school or IAF ground school (done them both). It was a pretty sweet deal going to the class though (i did it over the summer a couple of years ago). Austin
  7. That's what I was getting at Phree... I didn't get why so many people were saying that Safires are hard to land. My landings have nothing to do with muscle memory; I just fly it out until it's time to stop. Austin
  8. I am just curious as to why everybody thinks that Safires are so hard to land. I have only jumped mine like 10-15 times, but I don't think it's hard to land like all I have read on here from people saying. So if you think that your safire is/was hard to land, would you explain why? Austin
  9. Except the article said that if the guy survives being thrown off the cliff, then they'll hang him. Shhesssh.... at least in the States he'd have been covered under Double Jeopardy Not quite so true.... just because you survive an execution does not mean that you are off the hook in the U.S. There was a guy quite a few years back that lived through the electric chair because of a short, so they let him heal, fixed the generators, and put him back in it and killed him. Austin
  10. I have the Cordura BOC pouch on my Wings and the pc is VERY secure in there, it doesn't "shift around" and is not prone to a premature. If anything, it's more secure than all of the spandex BOC's on other rigs that I've seen. Austin
  11. What are everyone's opinions of the Sony TRV-18? I may have a pretty good chance to get one for a good price, and am wondering how well this will work when I am ready to use it for jumping (right now I'd just use it for everything else, but I'm interested in the skydiving aspect of its usage). http:// http://www.sonystyle.com/digitalimaging/F_DV.shtml Thanks Austin
  12. Are there any more websites to post gear for sale in addition to Dropzone.com and Enclave.com that people use to sell canopies etc..?? Thanks Austin
  13. Steve, That sounds like a really good plan, I remembered hearing about going that route a couple of months ago and was hoping somebody would post how they went about getting one directly from South Africa. If you still have the website or email or anything about where you got it, I'd really appreciate it if you could help if nobody else can. Thanks Austin
  14. Thanks for the opinions guys. Ok, so who's got the best price on where to buy a Hornet?? I'm thinking Roy at Rigs and Things, but if you know who's got a better deal on one, let me know!! Austin
  15. I've heard a lot of very good comments on the Hornet recently and would like to know if anybody has switched from a triathlon to a hornet. I'm looking to change to a nine cell so that I can get some more glide and maybe a little bit softer landing (I stand up 98% of my landings with the triathlon, but they still seem to be a bit hard at times). At the moment, I'm not really looking to downsize (my triathlon is a 190 at 1.14lbs/ft^2 and I have around 70 jumps). So all of you hornet jumpers, how would you rate the following characteristics: flare, glide, opening, pack volume? I do realize the obvious difference in aspect ratios i.e. 7cell vs. 9 cell, but would like to know how it compares anyway. thanks Austin
  16. I'm not ready to start jumping a camera yet, but I came across a Sony TRV 98 Hi-8 video camera at the store today for 199.95 (marked down like $150-200 because it was a display i think). My question is this: if I got this camera now, would it be a decent camera to start jumping with on down the road? if not why not? if so, why? thanks Austin
  17. Hey Paul, I don't get Skydiving Mag, is there any chance you could email me a copy so i can see it?? BTW, my Cobalt demo 170 will be on the way in around a week or so. Austin

  23. I was just wondering what are the most populare video cameras being used and what kind work best. I don't jump a camera, but would like to in another 150 jumps or so. Austin
  24. Where in the midwest??? anywhere near Kansas i hope???? Austin
  25. lummy, I have never had anything even roughly resembling a hard opening on my Triathlon 190 loaded at ~1.13...as a matter of fact, the first few times I jumped it, it made me fairly nervous about how long it took to open, but now it's nice and slow without touching the nose at all. Austin
