  1. Solos are common among experienced freefliers. While it would be rare to see a 1,000 jump belly flier do a solo, someone can do a HD or sit solo and really challenge themselves to get stable in different body positions. In fact, sometimes a solo is the best way to work on some of those drills. I'm not saying your wrong.... but I don't know many FF'rs that "commonly" do solos whether they have 200 or 2000+ jumps. I personally think it's better to work on drills with another jumper NOT solo. I agree we should hold back on speculation, and I didn't know the jumper. But right now with the few facts that have been provided they point to intentional deharnessing. When the rig is found with ALL straps completely undone it would be naive to not consider that possibility, sad as it is. *I am not afraid of dying... I am afraid of missing life.* ----Disclaimer: I don't know shit about skydiving.----
  2. I have to agree.... Hard to imagine that a completely undone chest strap and fully loosened leg straps would simply go unnoticed prior to exit. *I am not afraid of dying... I am afraid of missing life.* ----Disclaimer: I don't know shit about skydiving.----
  3. Agreed... that rant was misdirected and frankly BS when it comes to the topic in discussion. *I am not afraid of dying... I am afraid of missing life.* ----Disclaimer: I don't know shit about skydiving.----
  4. Sounds like a RARE set of circumstances that could go either way, full-face or open. I don't think that we need to reassess the use of full-face helmets. *I am not afraid of dying... I am afraid of missing life.* ----Disclaimer: I don't know shit about skydiving.----
  5. Mile-Hi is my home dz. We do put up a lot of tandems but we also have an Otter that is dedicated to fun jumpers when we are busy. There is actually little wait time when we have both the King Air and the Otter flying. You shouldn't have any problem finding people to jump with while your there. The LONG wait time rumor isn't true, unless.... it happens to be an unusually busy weekend with fun jumpers, Air Force teams, and big-way groups practicing all in the same day. Not sure of your experience level or or preferred discipline but I'd be happy to do some jumps with you. People are also putting together larger group jumps quite frequently, tracking, speed stars, and hybrids etc... As for the altitude, you will most definitely notice an increase in canopy speed. As long as you are aware and start off a bit more conservative you should be fine. Talk to one of the instructors once you get there or whoever give you your debriefing. I haven't been to Empire yet but have heard some good things. If you can only hit one dz go to Mile-Hi. Empire is much slower and smaller dz and you may not get many jumps pending the number of people there. *I am not afraid of dying... 6. It just depends on the type of impact... When the head impacts a solid immobile object such as the ground, the head will still be going from (x) speed to zero instantly. While something like a motorcycle helmet may better protect the skull from fracture etc it won't likely make much difference if any at all in the shearing forces on the brain and sub-dural/arachnoid space within the skull when it comes to rapid deceleration injuries. Therefore, with the motorcycle helmet one may avoid something such as a fracture..., but will still suffer a serious traumatic brain or intracranial injury. When it comes to any other movable object striking the head, yeah the motorcycle helmet will provide better protection. *I am not afraid of dying... 8. A full-face helmet has NEVER caused a canopy collision, and never will be the cause of a canopy collision.... just another excuse. *I am not afraid of dying... I am afraid of missing life.* ----Disclaimer: I don't know shit about skydiving.----
  9. It is pretty funny.... ps- not me in the vid, but you prob knew that

  12. Unfortunately most fatal traumatic brain injuries will be due to rapid deceleration injuries or a coup/contrecoup injury.... chances are not even the best helmets, motorcycle or otherwise will provide adequate protection. They would likely give greater protection against something like a tail strike though. Otherwise even the most basic helmets will protect against the simple hand/foot to the head. If your afraid of a tail strike, get a heavy duty helmet. If your afraid of some mid-air contact get any helmet on the market. If your afraid of impact with the ground, it's probably not going to make much difference what type of helmet you have on. Truth is there's nothing funny about being too safe... but be prepared to get cracked on if you show up with a motorcycle helmet. *I am not afraid of dying... 13. The King's Speech Man... I guess this was just way too hyped up for me cause I really wasn't that impressed. Some people say it's a movie about over-coming greatest fears, or about the relationship between teacher/pathologist, or beating his disability, etc... I just thought it was about a guy with a speech impediment. I didn't think it was bad but I definitely wouldn't watch it again. Source Code I liked this movie for it's entertainment value... I think they tried to make it like a 'puzzle solver' but failed in that sense. Definitely a good rental when it comes out. Rango The characters in this movie were really cool! I thought it was going to be a funnier, but overall thought it was a pretty good movie... plus I'm a sucker for animated movies.
  14. I just watched it. Good movie but NOT FOR THE SQUEAMISH! I liked it too... I was actually expecting it to be more graphic. I was surprised that he got his arm caught in the first 15 min. *I am not afraid of dying... I am afraid of missing life.* ----Disclaimer: I don't know shit about skydiving.----

  17. "Though it is controversial, many credit the following writing with predicting recent events involving Obama and Osama… NOSTRADAMUS QUATRAIN #3 – 58 “And then, after great searching, Ozbama will send two birds bearing men of war to the East And they will find and kill… wait… that’s not possible. Why would he have his own men… how could Ozbama be in two different… nevermind. That one makes no sense. Scratch that. Let’s go back to the one about the ePhone.” " *I am not afraid of dying... 18. At your size your probably going to want a tighter fitting suit. I'm 6' and about 195 exit weight, when I had a baggier suit I found it difficult to keep up with most people in their sit without having to stand repetitively. I now have a pretty tight suit and I'd much rather change my body position to slow down than speed up. My recommendation would be to go with a faster fitting suit. Good luck. *I am not afraid of dying... I am afraid of missing life.* ----Disclaimer: I don't know shit about skydiving.----

  21. Seems both PLF and sliding have their place. I don't think it's right to tell people they should ALWAYS perform just one over the other. I also think that a big part of it is dependent upon which one someone is more comfortable performing. Say your coming in for a landing and feel your going to need to perform one or the other but the decision is 50/50, I think most people would do what they feel most comfortable with, doing the opposite may cause them to tense up and more susceptible to injury. *I am not afraid of dying... 23. I always wrap my entire shoulder straps from the 3-rings down past the handles with something called Coban. It's sort of similar to an ace bandage and it sticks to its self. Works great!! *I am not afraid of dying... I am afraid of missing life.* ----Disclaimer: I don't know shit about skydiving.----
