  1. So I did 2 IAD jumps about 2 years ago and didn't keep at it because all of my other hobbies didn't leave extra funds and I was a bit iffy due to the risk and having a wife and two little kids. After two years of always thinking about it and constantly watching vids and lurking the forums I couldn't take it anymore. I've accepted the risk, quit my hobbies, sold my project car and atv and ready to commit 100% Going to a new DZ tomorrow and can't wait to get in some more jumps, sorry just had to share lol!
  2. So not really new to the site, posted on here back awhile ago and troll it from time to time. I was supposed to make my first AFF jump back in Texas where I was in the Army. Well my medical retirement dropped really fast and I didnt get the chance to do it. Now that Im out of the Army back here in Huntington, WV and settled in while going to school I plan to go back after it! I looked up and called the closest DZ to me Tri-State skydivers located at Ashland, Ky regional Airport. They only offer SL/IAD so thats the route Im going. Go 2 moro to drop my deposit and check out the DZ and meet everyone then my class instruction is next friday and first jump (hopefully two or three) will be the next day on saturday. Cant wait finally gonna get this thing started and hopefully have my A Lic. soon as possible gonna try and knock out at least 2 jumps a weekend minimum.
  3. Not really a squirrel! (well kinda)... they are called ground squirrels they resemble Prairie Dogs not your average tree squirrel. I used to have them for pets, pretty cool. Great PIc though!
  4. The point of my rant really had nothing to do with whats considered extreme, I just used the term as that is the general sports category that these sports fall under. I was just putting out my opinion that alot of the older sports such as skydiving, surfing, climbing etc.. that used to be the top sports that was the ones to be involved with have faded to the background and sports like skateboarding, bmx,FMX have taken over the limelight. Makes no difference to me I know what I enjoy doing and will always do it even if everyone else quits but I wanted to throw the video up as a good highlight of some the "older" sports.
  5. Im picking up and starting over in the Space Coast area of Florida, decent living costs, best surf in FL, lot of DZ's close by, nice weather... cant wait
  6. Thanks for all the input. I think Im going to have to agree with Ashley as I picked that area of Fl as a great place, good surf all along Space Coast and DZ's everywhere..... Cali is to expensive thats why I have not considered there. Plus the states economy right now is a disaster. Only thing Texas has going in some good DZ's their coast line sucks.. So Space Coast FL sounds like a winner, unless anyone has some downsides about it they would like to mention
  7. So I live in Texas as of now in the Army, I'am about to get out of the Army here withing the next 6 months or so... I'm debating what to do, I really like Texas and I enjoyed living in Florida in the past. My two major deciding factors on the move are, Skydiving and Surfing... (of course real estate prices and jobs) lol... Currently Im in Killeen Tx, there is Skydive Temple close by but ehhh no beaches.. for that matter Texas in general does not have any good beaches to surf to my knowledge. I was considering around Titusville Fl. as Skydive Space Center is right there with 18k jump alt... cant beat that and Cocoa beach, satellite beach etc are close by with good surfing. So0o0, any recomendations on locations to move to that have a good DZ and surf spot close by would be much appreciated.

  9. I've noticed that nowadays the original "extreme sports" like Skydiving, rock climbing, mountain biking, ski/snowboarding, surfing etc... have faded away. These sports were the ones that intrigued me as a youth and the ones I participated in or was dying to try. They all typically was involved with nature be it sky, water, snow, earth etc. Nowadays if you go up to a kid and ask them what extreme sports they like you will typically get a answer of "skateboarding, Freestyle Moto X,maybe BMX (its fading as well)... You will hardly ever here them talk about skydiving, surfing, rock climbing, etc.... some are hanging in there like Snowboarding. It seems that some of our sports only hang on in their niche and have faded away from the spotlight as modern, popular extreme sports, all thats left are kids that wanna wear tight jeans and skateboard around in a city. The days of young people that are lay'd back and enjoy the feeling and get the deeper connection you get with sports such as surfing and skydiving seem gone.... END RANT: lol... could just be me but this is how I feel and here is a great video called Adrenaline Hunters. Well worth a watch for all!!! many different sports in it (good skydiving and BASE too) and a great soundtrack, good song/wingsuit part about 43min in... Enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TmSJwg1lRyU

    New

Hi, and welcome. Im also new with no jumps yet but going to do my first AFF soon. You planning on tandem or AFF for you first jump?
  13. Thanks, I generally do very well with new things, I catch on very quick and usually become pretty good at anything I put my mind to. Hope this trend carries on with Skydiving!
  14. So0o I figure I would introduce myself, Im a 23yr old soldier in the US Army stationed here at Fort Hood, Tx. I have wanted to jump ever since I was a kid and seen the movie "Dropzone" and had a uncle that was a Instructor. Military, money and time have always prevented me but now I'am able to do it. I plan to start my AFF one the first of the month and knock out at least 2 jumps a month. A good friend will also be doing this with me. Cant wait to see if it feels anything like I've always dreamed it would. Be glad to be a part of this community as I become a skydiver finally! PS: How do you post up a Avatar pic, I could not seem to find it in the profile settings.
