  1. LOL... seriously, take an 18 month old and tell him to be quiet.
  2. And I have to pay taxes for a war I don't believe in. At least paying for our children's education benefits our country. Hello Speakers Corner.
  3. Again, the baby is a year and a half. Despite the bag of tricks I have you can't always get a baby to be quiet. We rarely take our son out to restaurants to because he is in that stage. I am the first person to get up and leave a restaurant if my son so much as makes a noise above crowd level. However, an airplane is different and people have to travel and a mother can do everything possible and the baby still not be quiet. It's not bad parenting, it's just life. I wouldn't be opposed to flights for parents and kids only or child free flights. Unfortunately, that isn't an option right now.
  4. I didn't realize that a talking baby was unfit for public environment where other adults are talking as well. I know that I have been frustrated by more adults in public places than I have children. Do you let kids trick or treat at your house ?
  5. Q: Is it safe to use dented cans? A: Products in slightly dented cans can be consumed as long as there are no leaks and the product appears wholesome. Do not consume products from severely dented, leaking, or swollen cans or jars. http://www.fpa-food.org/content/consumers/faqs.asp
  6. The parent should change the diaper. You can't "shut a baby up." Unless of course you want to be abusive and just knock the kid out or duct tape his mouth shut.
  7. No, you're not the only one. I read it too but some are choosing to ignore that part of the story and assume the mother was just a bad parent because her baby was talking.
  8. This child is a year and a half. If you've never had a toddler or studied child development you won't understand. The child was not acting inapproprrate and she could have ignored his talking the whole time or threatened him, etc and he still would have kept on talking. He was not being "bad." Kids this age also throw tantrums because they don't know to express that they are tired or upset. It's actually part of the normal and healthy development of a child. You can't reason with kids this age. I'm not talking about a 5 year old throwing a tantrum because you won't buy him a new toy. That is completely different. However, in this particular case there was nothing she could do. Her baby was talking. People seriously need to lighten up.
  9. We may be moving to France for a couple of years. We'd be living in Toulouse. I've been researching the area and it looks fantastic. Just have to decide if uprooting the kids, etc. is worth it. I think it would be a great experience for them but they're not as enthused.
  10. Go to the doc and get some antibiotics. If it is strep it won't get better on its own. Strep throat can be nasty, nasty.
  11. I had to google that. "Setup of a straw man Straw Man'-(1)A fictitious person, esp. one that is weak or flawed.(2) A tenuous and exaggerated counterargument that an advocate puts forward for the sole purpose of disproving it.- Also termed straw-man argument.(3) A thrid party used in some transactions as a temporary transferee to allow the principal parties to accomplish something that is otherwise impermissable.(4) A person hired to post a worthless bail bond for the release of an accused.- Also termed stray comments. (Black's Law Dictionary, Seventh Edition pg. 1434) One can set up a straw man in the following ways: Present a misrepresentation of the opponent's position, refute it, and pretend that the opponent's actual position has been refuted. Quote an opponent's words out of context -- i.e., choose quotations that are not representative of the opponent's actual intentions (see contextomy). Present someone who defends a position poorly as the defender, refute that person's arguments, and pretend that every upholder of that position, and thus the position itself, has been defeated. Invent a fictitious persona with actions or beliefs that are criticized, and pretend that the person represents a group of whom the speaker is critical. Oversimplify a person's argument into a simple analogy, which can then be attacked. Some logic textbooks define the straw man fallacy only as a misrepresented argument. It is now common, however, to use the term to refer to all of these tactics. The straw-man technique is also used as a form of media manipulation. However, carefully presenting and refuting a weakened form of an opponent's argument is not always itself a fallacy. Instead, it restricts the scope of the opponent's argument, either to where the argument is no longer relevant or as a step of a proof by exhaustion.' Wow.. I did all that??
  12. No. It does not at all. However, taking a pic of her and posting it on the internet is slightly creepy. That is all.
  13. Like the girl who is wearing a short skirt and tight shirt is just asking to be raped.. Honestly, she is just there doing her job. Not getting naked but waiting tables. Flame away.
  14. LOL.. They start getting very picky with food at this age. Give her a spoon and let her try it herself. They really start asserting their independence don't they? I usually just put his food on the tray and he eats it with his fingers or his spoon. Also you can try and sneak a bite in as well. They end up getting what they need though so don't worry. I know it's frustrating . When they start throwing the food off of the tray they either are all done, not hungry, or bored. I just take him out and try again another time. Check out babycenter.com They have lots of tips, advice, etc.
  15. That's the example I was trying to make. Even though she was hired for "services" it doesn't exempt us from our own responsibilities. Granted, it was a poor example.
  16. This I disagree with. I'm assuming he knows that contraception is not 100%. A child shouldn't have to pay the price because his/her father is a john and the mother a prostitute. The condom broke but he took the risk as did she. Going to a prostitute is obviously a "risky venture" in many ways. Of course, she's probably not pregnant but it does bring up a lot of questions. If I hire a housekeeper to clean my house and she slips and hurts herself in my bathroom am I legally responsible for her injuries?
  17. Pms... sorry. I wasn't taking it all that seriously but was just curious. edit* unless you mean him. I still have Pms though

  20. I'm here to help. And I'm skinny with long hair and get beer and sammiches for my husband too.
  21. Hey there... JRaf is my husband and I try to send him to the dz sometimes. He says... "baby, let's just take the baby to the beach and relax." And he mops the floor for me too. Love you Hans!! edit-- and I have dinner waiting for him on the table within 5 minutes of him getting home from work.
  22. True. However, I was breastfeeding so pills weren't an option and I'm allergic to spermicide. You are right that we could have abstained to prevent pregnancy.
  23. My third child resulted from a condom that broke. I was having protected sex with my husband and became pregnant. You can do everything right to prevent it and you can still become pregnant.
  24. Love and prayers, sweetie.
