  1. The comment; "The FAA is creating new bureaucracy" actually has another meaning for me. Its simply a bunch of dysfunctional civil servants (those useless fucks who can't go out and get a real job) flexing their muscles in an attempt to justify their useless fucking jobs. Being in aviation my entire adult life, I have a lot of experience with this garbage, thus the reason for my kind words about the FAA You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime
  2. Ronald Raymond Moyers passed away April 11, 2012 in Chandler Arizona. He served a tour in Vietnam and received 2 Bronzed Stars and a Purple Heart. Skydiving was his love, he had well over a 1000 jumps. You will be missed my friend! You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime
  3. Couldn't this be done in the water somehow if it were agitated? You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime
  4. Lots of good advise here. Being in the sport for many years and jumping what is by design a slow opening canopy (PD Spectre), There is no guarantee you will get 100% soft openings but I do. On occasion I do land harder than I planned and take the bumps and bruises both in freefall and under canopy that go with the sport. Just the other day I caught some turbulence and basically fell out of the sky from about 10 ft. No bid deal but an impact like that could do what your doctor warned you about. That being said I would probably advise you to avoid Skydiving at least until you get that thing removed (if that's even possible). 5. please do not use the word "save" to describe a reserve ride on a canopy I packed. I never liked that word and it depicts the fact that a Rigger might have saved the life of someone who would otherwise have died. 6. Spectre, that canopy took a bit more toggle stroke to get going. My Spectre responds pretty fast, but when I want it faster, I just pull a rear riser and then its really quick You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime
  7. You can solo a glider in the US at 14. This means you have covered the emergency procedures and are capable of landing the glider (aircraft). You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime
  8. So . . . you're claiming it was a religious issue and not a weapons issue? The weapons issue was simply trumped by the criminals in the ATF who orchestrated this atrocity. You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime
  9. 19th aniversary where the ATF's failure to execute the search warrant, a siege was initiated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The siege ended 50 days later when a second assault on the compound was made and a fire destroyed the compound. 76 people (24 of them British nationals)[2] died in the fire, including more than 20 children, two pregnant women, and the sect leader David Koresh. 10. Call them, I'm sure they will give you an idea if not the scheduled completion date You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime
  11. Don't know about the other DZ's, but here at DeLand you can always get on a load. Come on out!! You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime
  12. No, I haven't personally but based on the reviews, it looks like a nice place http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/dropzone/review.cgi?ID=316 You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime
  13. Lots of good advise here.. 15 to 20 is "usually" accompanied by gusts and/or variable wind direction, and this variable direction can magnify the hazard with gusts. Like another jumper here reported, I too have been on what seemed like a manageable approach and simply fell out of the sky from 10 ft. on 2 occasions in the last year. This was due to the fact that I landed near trees. Knocked the shit out of me and if it had been 20ft. the outcome would have changed significantly. Don't forget the turbulence generated by buildings, trees, etc. both on the windward and leeward side. Skydiving in any kind of winds you should be dealing with the windward side anyway. 14. DeLand is nice. Like large DZ's in Arizona and CA they are open every day and no problem getting in the air. All the major gear suppliers are here too and you can demo their rigs before you buy. Great people and great place to jump You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime
  15. Yeah, it was like a major event for the media. They had those vans with the satellite towers all set up. Seems they had nothing better to do. Shit, back in the round days those long off-field landings were routine! You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime
  16. Nothing wrong with a 182RG at all. Just keep the gear up. The original Ripcord TV show used a Cessna 210 and everyone just jumped out like we do with a lot of the turbines out there. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tglgGAngsmI&feature=related You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime
  17. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tF578oSkrKk Looking at the video again, it is clear that you are seriously out of touch. That should not send a cold chill down anyone's spine. It was a stupid low HP turn that he continued until impact. Sangi has said the same himself. Doesn't look to me like the low turn continued until impact. Its clear the turn was stopped, only it was stopped a little too low. You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime
  18. Looks like 2011 had less than half the fatalities of any previous year. Lets keep up the good work and get it down to nothing. Well, I know that won't happen but we're off to a good start You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime
  19. DeLand is nice and a lot closer than AZ or CA. Actually I've heard of it called the Skydiving Capital or Europe. They got a bunkhouse and plenty of tent space. Also a restaurant and lots of great people. You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime
  20. Since my right shoulder was dislocated in a skydiving accident some years ago, I have suffered continuous pain to the point where reaching to change the radio station in my car hurt like hell. I went to a chiropractor who told me to do repetitions with a 5 pound weight once a day. That seemed to reduce the pain but the movement when pulling my hacky was still painful. I changed to a left-handed pull out and since then, I haven't had any issues. I understand that most, or all tandem rigs give you the option to pull right or left. 21. Billy Weber is very good at this kind of stuff. He can make you what you want but he is in Florida, there is always shipping. If you want to speak with him, just PM me and I will put you in touch. You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime

  23. A couple of months ago I pulled high to play with my canopy. While attempting to sit back for the long ride, I noticed I went back a bit farther than I planned. This bothered me and just last week I installed a similar strap. You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime

  25. What a loss! I was doing a hop & pop with another jumper at DeLand this last Spring and on the way up the other guy asked me how long I have been jumping. I told him 39 years and I in turn asked him the same question. He said 50 years and introduced himself as Ted Strong. Happy I had the opportunity to not only meet this legend but to jump with him.
