After my first freefall on jump 6 from 3500 feet, Terry Chavez was my instructor and he said: Don't worry, you will be fine, you have 1,000 to pull before you even get to 2,500 ! Called McElfish Parachute service after jump 15 and he made me a good deal on a used Thunderbow instead of a new Paracommander. Not bad, but fairly soon I ordered a new PC, it just flew quite a bit better, IMO.

A gunsmith will advise you, no charge. That gun will kick like a mule. Do not shoot it without help if it has a scope, unless you are a veteran scope shooter. You will destroy your face, or worse, your eye. Not a joke, I have seen it happen, too often. It sucks.

And similar to Chris Martin, I guess, Ted Strong at PIA once talked about an identical type test jump spinning mal that he almost could not cutaway from. I worried for him after I heard that story. And, as far as I know, a bad spinner on that fatal ATV jump is what got Ted, while the other jumper on the vehicle was able to get off of it.

Another thing that can bite you is vertigo, nausea, and tunnel vision... happened real quick to me when I scuba dived when I was getting over the flu......... Heavy surf and steep rock face on the shore to climb up in Okinawa. Not sure I would have made it without my brother there to bail me out. Way scarier than anything that ever happened to me jumping or flying. I won't scuba again except in very benign conditions ( I am not a youngster any more.)

I read lots of old west history which has letters written by Wyatt Earp, Virgil, and even Ike Clanton, among others. These guys with 6th grade educations surpass a surprising percentage of today's kids in penmanship, grammar, and spelling. It is astonishing. My granddads were equally skilled, with 8th grade educations.

Thank God it is extremely rare... but it scares the hell out of me since my daughter and nieces did tandems. I did tell my daughter a few days before to watch her instructor hook up all FOUR connections and double check him. Common sense for all concerned.

Put it this way; if no one had ever flown in space for more than, say, a couple of days in earth orbit, do you think we could go to the moon today for the first time ? Our aerospace giants are gone. Most factories, gone. I am not at all sure we could do the first moon landing today. It will be very hard to do as it is, and we have all the plans from the last time. Not sure we have the guts to do it now, either. I will concede that we might be able to do it, given a 15 year or more time span to do it..... maybe !!!! Many people do not know that the Russians had a Mars probe launch this week !!!! And it never left earth orbit, due to problems. Just shows how hard that stuff is even after 50 years of doing it.
