  1. hate to hijack but my gear was yanked about a week ago. 6'0'' 215lbs jumped a 354 last year, wouldn't mind downsizing. 3 jumps at BD 2010 2 local jumps after that if anyone can help please let me know
  2. Proud to say the "That was perfect!" during the title shot was from my first BASE jump.
  3. I did the same thing. The only issue I had was not having a A-license number. People would ask to sign their logbooks and I didn't know what to tell them
  4. **longer than anticipated, see lesson at bottom for short version Flying's one of those things where when you are leaning to fly, you have to learn about the planes, at least the type. Once you learn you're more than likely hooked and want to learn more. I'm a young pilot and no one that I meet really expects it, when I was 19, granted only 2 years ago. Leaving a bar we passed an airport with all the lights on and I made a "damn that looks cool" remark . One guy that was kind of a tag along on the way home from the bar said something like "did you know pilots can operate the lights from their plane?" I casually said "yeah, you fly?" with honest and general interest, he took that and ran with it saying him and his friend who's an instructor go up all the time and do this and that. and continued with stories and incorrect facts I asked him how many hours he had (something that if you're learning how to fly you're very intent on knowing) and he said "I'm not really sure, probably around 80 or so, we go up all the time." I said "oh so you have your license already?" and he said with certainty, "Oh no you have to have like,,, 120 hours to even really start the license thing, it's real real hard but I'm on the way." to which i responded and accidentally started an argument "nope, you only need 40." "No there's no way, it's at least 100!" and for the first time I acknowledged myself as a pilot, pulled out my license and said, "dude, I promise you, it's 40, this took me 48." Then I asked him what airport he flew out of, never once saying i think you're full of shit. Where we live there's a decently large class D airport in the city we lived in and a much smaller non-towered airport about 30 mins away, I offer those 2 as options and he immediately picks the smaller one in hopes that no one really knew about it, I happen to work at the FBO at that time, had access and knew just about every plane and tail number at the airport. so with some enthusiasm, I say "Oh dude, I work there! what plane is it? What's the tail number? what hangar is it in, I probably know your friend!" "Oh I don't know the tail number I don't think HE even knows the tail number, it's a white one." I knew every tail number of every plane I've flown, told him that to which I think he realized he shouldn't have said anything. I let it go and changed the subject. When we let him out everyone in the car went, "so he was completely full of shit wasn't he." sometimes you can just let people out themselves.
  5. not my favorite song, by far. Although I like this version better. favorite music video because me and my friends set up, produced, shot, and edited it. And we got to throw a party at our house for it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sR4KpkKrSbI
  6. FWIW, my pilot 188zpx fits in a Javellin J2. I've had people ask what size canopy I have, mostly concerned that I was jumping too small of one by the way it looks on my back
  7. Last semesters final week fiasco... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EX3XzN5IW6I which also made national news http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsAZxdz-ccg dear lord...
  8. That might have sounded kindda misleading. This kid Issac was the one who stole, vandalized, and burned LSU's flag. after a warrant for his arrest went out he turned himself in. His buddy Ben organized this protest to burn another flag for his buddy's due process or some shit (after he turned himself in with extremely strong evidence against him). It wasn't so much the burning of the flag, but the defending of a kid who stole, vandalized, and then burned a stolen American flag on a night when everyone was feeling extremely patriotic. It's a lot of "this source told me I should feel this way" sheep herding around town right now. So many stupid and ignorant debates are going on throughout facebook right now on more than a few LSU students pages. I hope what I think is what most of those kids think but who knows. Hooray LSU finals week...
  9. It was the idea behind it. The night Osama was announced dead one kid went to the war memorial, stole the American and LSU flag and then burned the American flag. They arrested the kid after he fled the state to Atlanta and he was also accused of vandalizing a nearby apartment complex. They found his belongings in a stolen car along with a knife with the fibers of the rope cut down to get the flags and the supplies to vandalize the apartments. This kid wanted to have a peaceful protest about his "fellow students due process and justice" or some shit by burning ANOTHER flag. Blows my mind. Anyway the student government president decided to hold a patriotic assembly in protest of his protest. it ended up being what the videos showed, people being pissed off at the guy who originally burned our flag and especially the kid who wanted to defend him by burning another one.
  10. and could someone move this to General Skydiving?
  11. I'm in a lower level college course of Greek and Roman mythology, not gonna lie, looking for an easy way out of an assignment. Is there any reference to Greek or Roman Mythology in skydiving or skydiving products? I know the neptune but off the top of my head that's all I could be sure of. It seems like there would be more though with canopy names or symbols or something Let me know if you have any ideas.
  12. Coming from an SEC school the greek life is definitely a staple around here. I'm not in a frat, too many other things going on and I grew up in the city I go to college in so I know a lot of people around. I do however work at a bar that largely caters to the greek crowd and see both the greeks and gdis while they're out. As far as personality and character goes you can't really group all of the greeks together, I do regularly see the guys who are "frat-tastic" and believe that they rule the world and everyone in it because of their association with their frat. Around here there's like a uniform to go out in if you're in a frat and one outfit that the guys wear likely costs $450+, and they all have them....lots of them. Also, I've heard of dues each semester topping 2 grand. Just not my scene, I'm happy in some shorts a t-shirt and flip flops and spending my parents money on things like food and rent (if necessary) and way under the 2k a semester mark no matter what the situation. I guess it depends on the greek lifestyle at the certain school, but more importantly the kid deciding. I am without a doubt not the person the frat guys would usually hang out with but countless times I've had a friend who would bring me to a party and by the end of the night they realize that even though I might be a GDI I'm a good dude, I think they like a little variety and I do my best to open some of their eyes to things other than polo, costa del mar, titleist, and guy harvey. It's all about the image to a lot of them, if FSU is anything like this just make sure he stays himself if he does rush. That might be the one thing I really do dislike about frats, I've seen too many friends completely change and fall into the category that give frats some of the negative reputation
  13. One of, if not The first ones. Every once in a while I'll jump by myself and just fly on my back, kind of like when surfers turn around and bow to the wave, paying my respects and remembering where I came from.
  14. How many times have you been asked "How was your jump?" on the ground? and how many times have you honestly said "Bad"? Without many jumps my experience may not warrant much truth but talking around people it's been very rare to here that a jump wasn't fun. And it's not just the jumping that makes me so happy, for the next at least half hour/hour after a jump I'm the happiest person on the planet. Also for me jumping holds a sentimental value, my Dad passed away when I was 6. He was a jumper, airshow, air race, and helicopter saw pilot who was my absolute hero. I understood more about him as a person when I got my pilots license but understood even more about him when I started jumping. and a cool picture. I didn't try to recreate it but a friend showed me a pic after I landed and immediately I thought about the other one. I put them together and it's a decent match.
  15. you can't talk about the Tickfaw without mentioning the Prop Stop. ever been?
