  1. Kyle, I will be there. You can add me to the list. "You can easily judge the character of a man by how he treats those who can do nothing for him." - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
  2. I had no problem fastforwarding directly to it. The "birdmen" segment starts at 27:00. "You can easily judge the character of a man by how he treats those who can do nothing for him." - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
  3. Thanks, Quade. I thought that was very nice coverage of the sport. "You can easily judge the character of a man by how he treats those who can do nothing for him." - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
  4. Hello, everybody. I see that 60 Minutes on CBS had a segment on wingsuit basejumping tonight, but I was unable to watch it. I was wondering if anybody here saw it and recorded it or TiVo'd it. If so, please let me know if you can post it on youtube or burn it to disc. I'd appreciate any assistance in the matter. Thank you. 5. Yes. That's me. "You can easily judge the character of a man by how he treats those who can do nothing for him." - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
  6. http://www.bbc.co.uk/science/humanbody/sleep/sheep/reaction_version5.swf Try it, and post your best times. Here are my times: 1: 0.168 2: 0.168 3: 0.222 4: 0.217 5: 0.168 Average: 0.1886 I got up to Rocketing Rabbit, but it took several (edit: ok, a lot of) tries to do so. 7. If farting in freefall makes you a skydiver, does crapping all over yourself in freefall make you a skygod? "You can easily judge the character of a man by how he treats those who can do nothing for him." - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
  8. The one that annoys me the most is the "Why would someone jump out of a perfectly good plane?" However, I consider the ones "What's it like?" and "Is it scary?" to be legitimate, non-annoying questions. 9. I see the sarcasm in your post , but on a serious note, I did try the search function before posting. I either turned up no search results or too many non-relevant search results. What would you search for to see if this question has been asked before? "You can easily judge the character of a man by how he treats those who can do nothing for him." - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
  10. Hello, everybody. I have been wondering about this for a while. My first jump was a tandem, and my second was AFF Level 1. For me, I considered myself a skydiver after I completed AFF Level 1, but I also knew back then that I was going to continue jumping, so I was essentially a skydiver at heart already. But my thoughts might not necessarily comport with those of other skydivers. So I ask: When do you earn the right to call yourself a skydiver? 11. I guess it could mean it. Superstition = An irrational belief that an object, action, or circumstance not logically related to a course of events influences its outcome. http://www.answers.com/topic/superstition Paranormal = Beyond the range of normal experience or scientific explanation http://www.answers.com/topic/paranormal Though I can see circumstances in which believing in the paranormal does not necessarily mean being superstitious. 12. I love cats, and I have one. Everytime I take her to the vet she freaks out. Last time I took her, she attacked the housecat that lives at the animal clinic. I think she felt threatened, like you said, by the presence of other animals that she is not used to. 13. I call BS. Cats are awesome! I think you're biased, you dog lover, you. I bet if the cat were able to tell its side to the story, it would say that you viciously attacked it and provoked it. Po wittle kitty kat! On a side note, hope you get better soon. "You can easily judge the character of a man by how he treats those who can do nothing for him." - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
  14. I never stop thinking of it as home. Never. When I do, I become a traitor at heart. "You can easily judge the character of a man by how he treats those who can do nothing for him." - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
  15. FIFY I received an unusable piece of network gear from a seller. About the same I received it, his account disappeared. When I contacted PayPal, all they wanted to know was if he shipped me something, ANYTHING. I made the mistake of saying "Yes", so they informed me there was nothing they could/would do about it. PayPal's "protection" is a joke. Actually, you still have two methods of recourse in this situation. First, when you file a paypal dispute, be sure to file it as "Item Significantly Not as Described" (ISNAD) rather than as an "item not received." The difference between the two is that if you file "item not received," and you acknowledge receipt of anything you will lose the claim. However, if you filed ISNAD, when paypal processes the claim, they will tell you to return the item to the seller and provide paypal with the tracking number (you must use tracking). Once the tracking number shows that the item was returned to the seller, they will process the refund. The second method of more protection is more important and more substantial than the first. When you send payment via paypal, ALWAYS PAY WITH A CREDIT CARD. Do not send funds from your checking account. This is important because even if you file a paypal dispute and lose, you can still file a credit card chargeback, which is much easier to win than a paypal dispute. Like anything else, you need to be proactive and take steps to protect yourself from scams. Use paypal, and pay only with your credit card. Oh, and never send payment as a gift. Period. Otherwise, you have no recourse with either paypal or your credit card company. 16. In general, Western Union = scam. Western Union doesn't offer any protection like paypal does. Anytime a seller asks you to send payment via Western Union, alarms should be going off in your head saying "Scam!!!!" Never send payment via Western Union. You have no protection at all if you get scammed... WHICH IS WHY SCAMMERS ASK YOU TO USE IT! EDIT: monkycndo beat me to it. 17. Just like I learned how to fly a plane using Microsoft Flight Simulator, I also completed AFF by skydiving on my Atari. Want to see a pic? Of course you do! EDIT: I am the guy in green. My friend is the guy in pink. He didn't complete AFF. "You can easily judge the character of a man by how he treats those who can do nothing for him." - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
  18. If you are going to check it out, go see it in the theater. I don't know what Valinda's and your tastes are in movies, but it is probably one I'd imagine you two would enjoy together. Also, if you are going to see it, see it in the theater. DON'T wait for it to come out on DVD and then see it. Some movies are just more enjoyable in the theater, and this is probably one of them. While I enjoyed the movie, part of the experience was enjoying everyone around us freak out throughout it. Definitely worth $10. "You can easily judge the character of a man by how he treats those who can do nothing for him." - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
  19. I saw it in the theater with a kinda-girlfriend. We both liked it a lot and thought it was funny. And FTR, I am quite intelligent. This might be the problem. Some movies are just funnier in the theater than they are on DVD. In the theater, it isn't just one person watching it, but a collective. And whether we admit it or not, our sense of humor is partially influenced by others, and partly a reaction to others' reactions. Translation: most comedies are funnier in the theater when you are watching and laughing with a hundred other people than when you watch them alone or with one other person on a boring Sunday afternoon. 20. I saw Paranormal Activity last night. It was a good movie. I would certainly recommend it. I don't believe in paranormal activity, and I still enjoyed it. Perhaps evenmoreso, I enjoyed the audience's reactions to the movie. I didn't know so many people were superstitious. The people behind us were screaming throughout the whole movie, as were many others in the theater. If you believe in paranormal activity, you will probably be one of the folks screaming throughout the movie. Even if you don't believe, you will still enjoy it. I am not going to spoil the movie, but I would recommend going to see it. More important, however, I would even recommend going to see it with someone who believes in the paranormal. You will get kicks and giggles out of their fears and screams. "You can easily judge the character of a man by how he treats those who can do nothing for him." - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
  21. Darn. I am actually going to Six Flags this Saturday, too, though I don't think I can go with you Cyndi. I don't think my date would like it. :( "You can easily judge the character of a man by how he treats those who can do nothing for him." - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
  22. Whether it is unethical depends on the kind of work you do, but there are easily many different circumstances in which there would be nothing unethical about accepting such an invitation. I have been offered such invitations before, and I accepted, but the customer who made the invitation never followed through, as I expected. My experience has been that usually people who make such offers are just blowing smoke, and will not deliver if the offer is accepted. 23. http://www.collegehumor.com/video:1921856 She has to be the dumbest mayor ever. If the citizens of Welford were stupid enough to vote for her, then they deserve her and her stupid policies. 24. I read for fun, but I never read fiction. I love non-fiction instead. Why do so many people assume that you can only read fiction for fun? I get just as much, if not more, enjoyment out of non-fiction as I do fiction, plus I am learning something at the same time. Anyhow, some of my favorite authors are Isaac Asimov (his non-fiction works, not his sci-fi), Carl Sagan, Richard Feynman, Robert Greene, Ayn Rand, Nathaniel Branden, Mark Bowden, Peter Maas, and Bob Woodward. I don't agree with everything I read either. I like books by Zechariah Sitchin and A. Ralph Epperson, though I don't agree with much of their writings. 25. Santini, "He's still following us?! That's Infeasible!" Diago, "You keep usin that word, I do not think it means what you think it means." Princess Bride Wow, you got that all wrong. First, the word is "inconceivable," Not "infeasible." Second, it's Vizzini, not Santini. Third, it's Inigo, not Diago.
