  1. I'm heading up to Monterey Wednesday, July 15th and Hollister the 16th, Thursday. Anyone going to be there jumping? Would like to do a few fun jumps if the timing is right. Thanks! "Fail, fail again. Fail better." -Samuel Beckett
  2. I'm going to miss all the fun stuff... every good weekend at Elsinore the military decides to send me somewhere distant for a few days... ugh... No boneanza, no chicks rocks, no fun... "Fail, fail again. Fail better." -Samuel Beckett
  3. Woooooohoooooo! Oh yea! Glad to see you up there again! "Fail, fail again. Fail better." -Samuel Beckett
  4. Glad you made it down safely! So, I assume you recovered everything? "Fail, fail again. Fail better." -Samuel Beckett
  5. My god... Hellllll no... I would have left a brown streak in the sky if I saw something like that in front of me. Thank goodness you and everyone else is okay! "Fail, fail again. Fail better." -Samuel Beckett
  6. I can't really add anything more than what others have already said except for one thing... I would suggest that he take his ASVAB and score a little higher, 110+ is needed to enter a lot of Army schools later down the road. I truly have a lot of respect for folks who join the armed forces (as long as they're not screw ups and "I'm running away from my past life" types) in today's political climate. Nearly 8 years in and an E6, I've had the pleasure of serving, leading, and becoming friends with the best people in the world. "Fail, fail again. Fail better." -Samuel Beckett
  7. After a 3-way star that 'accidently' went into a 3-way headdown the day prior, I got the "freefly" itch after welcoming the huge smile on my face. So I just had to try a sitfly... The entire week prior, I still gave myself huge grins doing 3, 4, and 5-ways. I still think my heart is RW... "Fail, fail again. Fail better." -Samuel Beckett
  8. With a little bit of excellent ground and jump coaching from folks at the DZ (thanks Mike!), my last 4 jumps I had a weird epiphany... ...and I began to sitfly! Each jump getting better and more stable. It just "clicked" one moment out the plane at 12.5K and I finally had a chance to watch the ocean disappear behind the mountains during the entire freefall... THE BEST feeling since AFF 1. is this the dark side? "Fail, fail again. Fail better." -Samuel Beckett
  9. Is there a way to disable to skyhook while under canopy (or on the ground)? Such as in a situation where (Godforbid) a jumper has a canopy collision with another jumper or a premature deployment at the door. "Fail, fail again. Fail better." -Samuel Beckett
  10. Why would anyone want to OPEN in a sit or head down position? Whatever happen to stable belly, arch, reach, pull? "Fail, fail again. Fail better." -Samuel Beckett
  11. +1 Nothing like spit coming back at you... "Fail, fail again. Fail better." -Samuel Beckett
  12. I would think that ANY of the modern rigs will complement your discipline. I'm sure more experienced jumpers will add. "Fail, fail again. Fail better." -Samuel Beckett

  16. Makes me kinda regret typing out what I said, but it just proved a point. I don't want you to get hurt. Moreover, I don't want you to be incapacitated and hurt someone else. I wish you the best of luck, because you certainly know more than we do. well i was nice for awhile. dont care now. i thought i'd get peoples experiences and some doctors opinions or actual evidence that there would be a decent chance of injury. i keep hearing dont do it because harsh openings or it'l hurt to arch and ... well here goes likely my last post... i'm tired of gettin cropped in with the rest of the couch potato football nascar watchin beer drinkin hopeless helpless no talent dip shit drivin slow in the left lane outa shape no other hobby having pussies in the world!!!!! i talked to a neuro surgeon friend of mine that said the same thing as my actual surgeon. my friend is totally familiar with alt. sports and the forces MUCH more harsh than my canopy opening or even if i limp dicked a landing and didnt throw sum brakes on. oh yeah and btw to just to piss more people off i'l be jumping a camera helmet with less than 100 jumps and a wing suit with 75 jumps and base with less than 100 jumps!!!!!!! and i'l live through AAALLLLLLLLLLL of it!!! dont bother taking ur thoughts of a response to actually typing cuz i'm sick of the flames that flow from keyboard junkies :) wouldnt hav typed this but F the smartass BS comments! to everybody even those who hate me after this i hope all of u get out this weekend and enjoy blue skies! I KNOW I WILL! And to think guys... These are the type of people who MAY be in the sky with you. Geeze. Yes, self-responsibility out there but it's the other person you have to worry about, too! Go jump, just don't hurt anyone else. "Fail, fail again. Fail better." -Samuel Beckett
  17. Good luck! PCS? Or ETS? I hope you find a good DZ out of there. Will do... I have another Army buddy that jumps at Temple... Last name Wiley... "Fail, fail again. Fail better." -Samuel Beckett
  18. Sounds awesome! All 10 your own packjobs? I wish I could get 10 packjobs in a weekend. Still working on it though. I'm down to getting 4-5/day without passing out from the heat and cussing a storm. I'm supposed to be in Hood in November, maybe I'll shoot you a PM and we can jump together. "Fail, fail again. Fail better." -Samuel Beckett
  19. I jump at Elsinore so I can tell you my perspective when I was a student. Perris is so big (to me) that I feel I was lost in the shuffle. I agree that it is probably because of the large numbers. Some veteran folks tell me it is because of the separation between new and experienced jumpers. Who knows... To me, the Elsinore staff is first rate (in any business I've encountered). They are all very friendly and willing to help you learn, regardless of your skill level. I never have any problems jumping with experienced folks on the weekends or just bullshitting on the weekdays I have off. The attention you get as a student from the staff and instructors is awesome. 2 cents "Fail, fail again. Fail better." -Samuel Beckett
  20. I had the same feeling. I once went 5 days, OMG!!! 5 days! Without jumping... felt like an eternity... Don't worry, every second will be worth it when you feel the cool wind in your face at 13000 ft. "Fail, fail again. Fail better." -Samuel Beckett
  21. I agree with the above. With my Spectre, if I face into the wind, I end up with a very steep angle. Otherwise, the soft and head-on openings, I can't complain. "Fail, fail again. Fail better." -Samuel Beckett
  22. I don't even talk about it. Only a few friends and family know. The occasional, "Did you know he skydives?" (pointing) comes from my close friends at gatherings when other people discuss "wanting to do something crazy." I briefly talk about it and say they should come down to the DZ to tandem. But that's it. I don't force it (the subject). Then they call me crazy and tell me they rather learn "surfing." Pfffftttt... at least we don't have sea creatures in the sky that want to eat you... "Fail, fail again. Fail better." -Samuel Beckett
  23. 1200, 600, 300 1200: Are you at the DZ yet? 600: Are you in the landing pattern? 300: Stop fucking around and prepare to land. "Fail, fail again. Fail better." -Samuel Beckett
  24. To be fair, unless I missed it, he didn't say where the gear landed and whether it was somewhere that could be safely followed ... if I'd followed my last cutaway down I would have a had a tree landing to add to my "no shit there I was" story (though where I did safely land involved having to be retrieved by the po-po, so it was a pretty good story anyway!) >once i got my bag back and main (that is an awesome story in itself!)
  25. I never did the tandem route. When do they through your own parachute on your back? i would hate being attached to someone... "Fail, fail again. Fail better." -Samuel Beckett
