  1. You could do that. Many manufacturers extend the discount for options and canopies. For example: I bought a UPT rig with PDR and Icarus main, fully loaded with every option. The price was almost 40-45% below full cost. If you have any gear to borrow, there is a boogie in Zweibrucken next month! Come jump! "Fail, fail again. Fail better." -Samuel Beckett
  2. No, I wouldn't think they check. However, keep in mind, photocopying or scanning a military ID (at least for the U.S. Military) is illegal. Some manufactures know this and now ask customers to send them an email from their "official" email address. Having your friend order something for you is YMMV. If s/he gets caught, they may get blacklisted by the manufacturer. I see you're in Germany... so am I. If you have any questions, send me a PM. I jump locally and in Spain & Portugal regularly. 3. One piece is much more comfortable over a 2-piece, especially under canopy. The 2-piece does offer additional mobility. Is it better than the one piece for freefying? IMHO, no. The trade off is not worth it. IMO, I would take a 1 piece every day of the week. "Fail, fail again. Fail better." -Samuel Beckett
  4. Looking to reline a Safire 2. Go with Vectran 580 (500?) or 750? Ty. "Fail, fail again. Fail better." -Samuel Beckett
  5. The answer is easy: Empuriabrava. Great weather year-round and 7/7 workdays. I live in Germany (great DZ nearby) but when I was to jump, jump, jump I take a cheap Ryan Air flight to Spain. "Fail, fail again. Fail better." -Samuel Beckett
  6. Aside from the obvious pin protection issue discussed in this thread... Question... I'm no rigger but I always like a learning experience. So here goes... I usually pack my PC according to Brian Germain's methods (pulling the center line down prior to folding, also a 3rd check on the ground for a properly cocked PC). I have been told, by BG himself if I'm not mistaken (this was many years ago when I flew 2 of his airlocked canopies), that packing your PC this way will allow the PC to be extracted if you have a horseshoe malfunction. I've tested it on the ground (albeit the force extracting the bag is much greater in the air I would believe): extracting the bag first, the PC follows out as cleanly as possible. Preventing a nasty total mal. Of course, YMMV and packing in such a way doesn't guarantee anything. I trust BG's experience and learning lesson. Here is the video, recommended watch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=axCeYlY_6io "Fail, fail again. Fail better." -Samuel Beckett
  7. Shoot me a PM. I'm in the area and have a similar schedule. I'll be glad to drive you. Split the gas or something. "Fail, fail again. Fail better." -Samuel Beckett
  8. It's cold as hell in SF during the winter (jumping). I would skip those two DZ's and just head to Sacramento/Davis or Lodi (cheap jumps to get your experience and numbers up). I spent an entire summer jumping in Europe, it is NOT cheap at all. Spain is cheapest... Go with Spain. "Fail, fail again. Fail better." -Samuel Beckett
  9. Beach jumps?! I'm there! Emailing items after work! "Fail, fail again. Fail better." -Samuel Beckett
  10. Sweet. Looking to be at JT's memorial at 'Snore but will be there the following week. Can't wait. Are the hours of operation pretty set? Thursday thru Sunday? Grimmie, any hop-n-pops that allow jumpers to open below your 5000 limit? "Fail, fail again. Fail better." -Samuel Beckett
  11. What was not shown is that the newreporter PHYSICALLY touched one of the employees after several employees asked the news crew not to trespass on the property. The other employee told the reporter "not to touch her again." The police officer in the video actually ESCORTED the news crew off the property after they repeatedly failed to leave the property upon request. Please, please don't believe everything that the media says. We all should know better. "Fail, fail again. Fail better." -Samuel Beckett
  12. As some know, the UK military trains primarily at Elsinore several months out of the year. Many of these jumpers are on (or just beginning) AFF progression. "Fail, fail again. Fail better." -Samuel Beckett
  13. I wish I could be there Lisa. Having jumped and known Jordan, it would be an honor to pay tribute to him. He always had a smile and a POSITIVE attitude regardless of how/what/when the jump went. He will be missed. "Fail, fail again. Fail better." -Samuel Beckett

  15. Thanks Brian for the reply. Prepare for a rebuttal! On another note, I'm still loving the Lotus that you made.... "Fail, fail again. Fail better." -Samuel Beckett
  16. Doh! "Fail, fail again. Fail better." -Samuel Beckett
  17. I always like 10 seconds working time on my final to have my canopy in full flight. Good work on flat turning... it's a skill that will probably save your life one day. "Fail, fail again. Fail better." -Samuel Beckett
  18. You're going to get a million different answers from a million different people. Myself, I bought my rig before graduating AFF. Why? Because I got a good deal. Otherwise, I would have waited. In any case, realize that you may downsize after AFF. I would suggest looking for used gear and forego buying anything new unless you get a good deal. "Fail, fail again. Fail better." -Samuel Beckett
  19. Maybe we'll see him this weekend? Are you looking for someone to video? He still has evidence of my pie-face that I wanna check out... "Fail, fail again. Fail better." -Samuel Beckett
  20. Easy, stay at Elsinore. j/k I know there's a few motels around. There's also the casino in Elsinore which gives you a discount for being a jumper (show your USPA card). It's only about a 20 minute drive locally to Perris. "Fail, fail again. Fail better." -Samuel Beckett
  21. Was that Ratatat for the tunes? Love those guys :) Yup, all their music is awesome.
  22. To add Emily: Brian Germain has a great book that can help you with canopy piloting, I'm sure you're familiar with it, called "The Parachute and its Pilot" that is available in the shop. It's worth the read and really clarified a lot of stuff for me. Also, if you want to work on accuracy, do a few hop-n-pops and spend time under canopy for practice. I LOVE H-N-Ps!!! "Fail, fail again. Fail better." -Samuel Beckett
  23. True. I can be guilty of it too about 5-10% of the time. My reference point on a no-wind day at Elsinore is the beginning of the race track. Using a standard 1000, 600, 300 approach I land in the green almost every time. Of course, different canopies fly differently, so YMMV. See you next weekend. "Fail, fail again. Fail better." -Samuel Beckett
  24. Speichersdorf and Hassfurt are both awesome places to jump. I would jump at the latter hough because it is more for fun jumpers. Easy train ride from Vilsek or Graf's bahn. "Fail, fail again. Fail better." -Samuel Beckett
