Just a quick note to let you all know that the World Free Fall Convention webpage is up and running ( at least parts of it are) www. freefall.com Michael has been working on getting the thing going, and after all of us playing around with all of the new possibilities for message boards, we decided we liked the old one best. As all of the latest and greatest is added to the Convention, it will be added to the website.

the first thing that we have to do is get an office set up. You know, desks, computers, phones, stuff like that. Then with that we can use their GIS system to have our grounds people put together some great info for us. Then as the vendors sign up, and the skydivers reserve the DZ row tents we have the back bone of the sight. What is available right now is as big as a banquet table, and would take the rest of this month to down load. You can go to MSN's TerraServer, and see the Village of Rantoul, which includes the airport, if you want to see it faster than that. Those huge triangular things in the middle are gonna be huge ass LZ's. The 1 hangar in the middle is the size of a couple of football fields if that gives you some perspective.

I am one of the first smiling faces (along with Bernice, Judy, Ellen, Jess, Glenna, etc) you will see as you enter registration. I will be greeting skydivers for about 36 or 37 hours a day, (ok so the days just seem to get longer as the 10 days advance) trying to make sure the registration process goes smmmmmoooooothhhhh. This year I have also been helping with a little of the advanced planning, meaning Bernice and I have pretty much worn out her Toyota. We've travelled the whole free world looking at various airports, talking to City Councils and Sports Commissions, and Convention and Visitors Bureaus. We've kept the Michillin folks busy (wearing out tires) been living off junk food. If we hadn't been working our asses off over this thing, they'd be as big as this DZ.

the location of the swoop pond is still in discussion, heck we didn't build last years pond til the Monday before the convention, so we still have plenty of variable left in it's location. Since we have so much room to work with, it's not a really big problem

Yeh, your girlfriend can get in no sweat, we'll have her fill out registration papers (she'll need picture id), but 'friend of skydiver' is a definite category. 'Townie here to rip off stuff, cause problems and drink free beer' isn't. That's why we had a ban on some locals last year.

everyday we get a couple dozen folks asking if we are going to open preregistration early this year, so sounds like there's gonna be a really good turnout. Thanks for asking.

A Great Big Thanks to Marc, and Brian from the Falling Illini, for showing up at the Rantoul Village Board Meeting last night. From our spots at the podium, Don and I could hear them chewing their fingernails down to the nubbens. All in all it was a great meeting, because after two hours of discussion we came out with the final contract, and YES! the CONVENTION IS DEFINITELY ON! Rantoul is an AWESOME facility, shaded camping with full hookups, Aquatic center for the family 2) 18 hole golf courses, recreational facility, roller rink, swoop pond, lake, daycare center and paintball course. did I just hear bday jumps?

well, my husband backed over one of those remote trucks once,,,,oh,yeah, and he ran forward over it once, ok so he backed over it several times....but the kid never did get another one that we knew of... Hey, have you just thought of walking Skeet down there several times a day til he gets the idea that THAT is his hop and pop area? At least it will keep the guy busy. You can let him know you enjoyed playing with his toy so much you just wanted to share a little of your garden fertilizer in exchange. Good friends can always find things to do together...

The www.freefall.com site has a link to the housing manager, the housing manager has blocked rooms in various hotels in Rantoul, and Champaign. No hotel in Rantoul is more that 5 minutes or so away. Champaign is about 15. These blocked hotels will have shuttle service provided free by the village and the convention. If you call some of the hotels direct, they may be telling you that they are booked solid because of the blocking, so make sure that you use the pop up link on the website, to avoid that problem, and to get the better rates. We wanted to make sure that we had enough hotels for everyone who wanted them.
