Then you watch DZO liquidate and move out of country. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

At the most basic of requirements 15 to 18 jumps, several of which have evaluation requirements to be conducted with a coach or higher, usually at a cost to the student. When a value comparison is made a complete "A" package program frequently beats a cheaper advertised AFF program. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. When you buy 5000 gallons at a time, you don't realize the fluctuations nearly the same way the airlines do at buying a million barrels at a time. Your patronizing a business, not a co-op. This industry is littered with people and abandoned DZ's of people who didn't operate like a business watching a bottom line. If a DZ makes a little more profit when prices are low, and that allows them to upgrade the DZ, repair/maintain the airplane, or simply save it for when times are tight, I'm cool with that. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Any dropzones out there that use a Piper Navajo?
diablopilot replied to gunsmokex's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
For the acquisition cost of a Navajo you might consider a King Air. We've got one for sale...... ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
Knee pads for tunnel flying
diablopilot replied to skydajka's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I think they were ASICS, but any to these should probably do.... http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=adult+volleyball+knee+pads&sprefix=adult+volleyball+%2Caps%2C1903 ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Knee pads for tunnel flying
diablopilot replied to skydajka's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
As a former tunnel instructor I can tell you I wore kneepads anything I was learning something new, as well as anytime I was belly flying more than a 2 way. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
I've got close to 4000 jumps on them and I never had any problems. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

While the tail of the loop is too long, the more important issue, and the thing that allowed this mistake to be possible is that the loop itself is too large, i.e. the "hole" is too big. It should not be possible for the entire pin to fit through a properly manufactured loop. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

The "45 degree rule" for exit separation DOES NOT WORK
diablopilot replied to kallend's topic in Safety and Training
Yet people still are not looking out the door. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
Have you considered that you set your altimeter based on the ground level you take off from, where as the pilot has to set his altimeter to the pressure altitude that ATC provides him and then is often restricted to the altitude they assign? ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. The "45 degree rule" for exit separation DOES NOT WORK
diablopilot replied to kallend's topic in Safety and Training
The ultimate problem is a bunch of fucking eggheads told everyone the 45 degree rule doesn't work, and then proceeded to write a such a complex alternative without considering if the masses could utilize it. Stress, inexperience, lack of care, or understanding, and ego, all completely negate it's usefulness. The simple fix would have been to change the name from the "45 degree rule" to the "look out the door rule". ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. largest cross braced canopy?
diablopilot replied to ShotterMG's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
and here i was thinking, nzaerosports made you any of their parachutes in any size.. so If i ever want to downsize from my crossfire 2 169. I can order a v x 168? i was under the impression you should be able to order a 305 petra if that was your thing. i'm quite sure you'd get a couple eyebrows lifted your way, but other than that, yes, that's how i understand their marketing. You'd also be a test pilot. Aerodynamics don't scale. The in between sizes from some manufacturers are linear scalings AFAIK, and do not fly "true" to their design. This is not much of a problem in the smaller sizes as the change is very small, though when pushing the limits of performance the shortcomings can be more noticeable. Some manufacturers that do not offer scaling have tuned the design of each size for the most desirable performance traits. I'd suggest that a 305 Petra, unless tested a tweeked by the factory is going to be a rather unpredictable canopy. :-) I've owned 4 scaled canopies and their corresponding "factory" sizes. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. The biggest problem I've encountered with it is the students are resistant themselves because soft helmets don't look "cool". I insist those with dreadlocks and those that wear OTG goggles use them and thats a pain in the ass most times. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. I put a couple thousand skydives on an infinity with black hardware with no noticeable wear. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

.............................................................................. Yes, As long as it has a larger engine (XP, Rheims Rocket or a variety of STCs) it will climb fast enough to work as a jump plane. Still sucks to take a 220lb tandem out of. :-) ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Try Ray Ferrell at Skydance. He has an later model 172 jumpship. Might be an XP. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Sharing airspace with aircraft (landings)
diablopilot replied to dthames's topic in Safety and Training
I should think that it should be expected that the aircraft you jumped out of will be landing on the runway shortly after you jumped out of it. Depending on aircraft type, and your skydive/equipment type that could be before, during, or after your landing. Be safe. -
You know another option is to shut them off. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Wendy for the win. I seem to remember it being described as the "snivel, snivel, snivel, snivel, open on demand (grab the toggles and flare) canopy". ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Video camera limits and experience (and new tech)

You need a sarcasm font, or I was mistaken about almost being injured/killed on the highways at least 3 separate times yesterday by youthful looking people driving cars paying attention to their phones. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Military jumps and civilian jumps

AFF student sudden fear of skydiving
diablopilot replied to MAD1210's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'd say go to the DZ. Don't book a jump. Just go. Relax. Enjoy the sunshine, be comfortable in the environment. Then make the decision..... ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
Not trying to take away from your discussion John, but I think this guys answer is more simple than that. In AFF, which seems to be the majority of skydive training these days, the most simple concept is taught from the get go. When loose altitude awareness, pull. In the FJC it is covered as the pull priorities, prior to the release dive it should be covered again as some form of the A.I.R. rule. Sounds like this lesson wasn't fully understood. Hope someone sat him down and explained this too him, as well as pointing out how he just cheated the reaper. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are.
