@ those who are supporting the McNasty:

Well, how the heck are balloons & balloon companies supposed to operate?

Sometimes a ground crew can get out ahead and find the appropriate house to inquire about a particular field to land in... but I would guess that doesn't happen often.

Fundamentally there has to be some agreement whether all balloonists are evil and the practice of ballooning must be stopped, if they operate anywhere where there is private property, or whether it is "normal" for balloons to land on private property -- where they can do it as long as they pay for any minor damage caused.

Indeed, same goes for glider pilots, or *gasp* skydivers. What is a tolerable off-landing rate? No more than one jumper on a given person's private property per year, or else the DZ should be shut down? Otherwise someone is trying to make a profit off someone else's private property, because the DZ is too cheap to buy all the land within a mile of the airport.

I'm not advocating any particular answer. Just saying that generally, ballooning has been tolerated as an aerial activity, and they do need to land on others' property. If so, a landowner is allowed to be a little upset, but can't be able to dictate safety-of-flight issues.

Just finished the first page of this ridiculous flame fest.... thank goodness some reasonableness.

To the OP, I see this as a 'heads-up' for anyone doing a balloon ride or off site jump in the Perris area. While the land owner does have the right to be upset, he is seemingly being somewhat unreasonable.

One would hope that these events can continue with courtesy and understanding between all parties involved. Apologies and compensation should always be offered to any land owner if damages or inconvenience is occurred. Otherwise no need for anyone to be an asshole and everyone is happy.

How many balloons have landed on ur property? And just because the UK has no property rights does not doesn't mean we don't! I know this guy who got pissed and his version is quite different...

Has mister big mouth ever done a balloon jump at Perris?

  2. I was GIVEN a Sabre 1 170 that has alot of jumps on it...not sure how many but it was given to me cuz no one was jumping it.

I started jumping it on my 78th jump.....and I am still jumping it!!

no hard openings but it does open snappy....;)

  3. Glad to hear about your A license....CONGRATS!!!

It is natural to be excited about sharing your jumps with others but the truth is inside video (you filming your jumps) is pretty boring to watch.

I suggest you make friends with a more experienced jumper who already has a camera and jump with him/her. Or even better offer to pay for their jump so they can practice doing video of you and another jumper.

Of course make sure the camera guy is qualified, but at 200+ jumps he should be!!

Having a camera, even a go-pro, changes the jump in alot of ways so just work on your flying for now!!

  5. Personally I tipped my instructors quite a bit thru all of AFF. I did it for a few reasons;

    1. I understand the value of a professional's time. (they don't get paid "alot")
    2. I knew this would be my home dz and I wanted to thank them for their effort.
    3. I had the extra money.
    4. I had a huge crush on Lelo! :D

...Please note that I am not advertising here, I was not asked to post this, I just want to share it with fellow skydivers.

I never intended to skydive...well I talked about it with a friend but I thought it cost too much. I finally did a tandem when I was 40; mainly as a xmas gift to my 18 year old daughter who jumped with me.....I was hooked

Recently I did my first w/s jump....I am hooked....I have only done 5 so far but plan on doing a few tomorrow.

....long story short; I just bought that book...do you see where this is going? B|

Thanks for the post and the nudge ;)

btw, you should work for them... they got at least one sale just cuz of u :)

  7. Hypothetically, I know of a situation in which 2 tandems students were allowed to jump with similar cameras taped to their wrist...like a student hand-cam

I never saw the footage though...since it was only hypothetical ;)

  8. dam they sure film alot of stuff at Elsinore....great link :)
EDIT: wow I just went out to tell my wife and daughter about the commercial and that it was filmed at Elsinore; my wife saw the commercial on TV last night and knew it was Elsinore.....and she has never done a skydive....LMAO think she has seen a skydiving video or two?B|

  9. Wow...if anyone here thought Spot had the ability to be 100% sure the student never took a breath the entire skydive; as opposed to his belief the student never took a breath; well I can only shake my head.

Regardless, I too was a VERY tense and unrelaxed W/S student that Spot had to deal with. Though I did not have 500 jumps total I did have 448 in the last 29 months; technically he should have not let me jump a W/S since I am clearly not a "natural" at skydiving.

Oddly enough my first flight went much better than my instructor thought it would go....even though I was "tense"

My point is, Spot is a good instructor, his mellow attitude and attention to detail are what I like about him most. But he is so approachable and easy to talk to it bothers me to see this BS go on here.

Personally, I will be down at Elsinore on Weds doing some more W/S jumps with a suit that Spot will let me demo at no cost...what an evil ego-maniac :S

EDIT: while I did not need the magic strips I did get some mental tricks to help me breath and relax during the flight. Like it or not, Spot is starting a W/S frenzy at my dz, and I am one of the latest casualties.

  10. When I saw the thread title, cleaning the a cpu fan on a laptop/netbook was what came to mind....

LMAO that video is killer....thanks a bunch for making me laugh and not feeling so alone!!!!

  11. Wow great thread....I didn't know it was 2 years old till your update. Initially I disagreed with your choice to put off jumping due to your wife's "panic attacks"; honestly I think things are working out best for you.

I have only jumped for a little while, in fact my first jump; a tandem, was made along with my oldest daughter (she was 18). I got licensed 3 months later; my daughter got her A about 6 months after me. Regardless, my wife hated skydiving and a little after a year of jumping my wife filed for divorce, she even had me served at the DZ while I was training tandems!

Luckily, I refused to move out, and finally won her back. Now she is ready to do a tandem next week (I get to do video!) and we are taking my youngest to Lodi at the end of January to do her first jump; she turns 16 Jan 31!

Sorry for your loss, but you will be happier if she was that controlling...

EDIT: to be fair I have not downsized since jump 71 so I guess I have made my own concessions cuz of my family....that and I am old enuff to know I am going to die sooner or later!

  12. what I mean by relevant info is:

How many jumps have u did at Skydive Elsinore?

How many student jumps did u do at Elsinore?

How many jumps did u do with Low Melton?

How many jumps did u do with Pat Newman? opps repeat question!

I live 8 minutes from Elsinore and 9 minutes from Perris both awesome DZs.....

Pat Newman is a trash talking coward, and I would gladly say that to his face. If u think I am going to publicly hang myself to prove to someone like u that Pat Newman is a scorned EX-employee, then u r stupider than I thought

  14. btw LOU...a kick ass instructor named Cesar was working a couple of weeks ago at Elsinore....is this part of the decline of the IE?

EDIT: "skydivers" like u who cannot post an honest profile on this forum are y I try and avoid this website
"Tell ya the truth, I don't think this is a brains kind of operation."

  15. LMAO again...how I got what I know is illegal. What OS do u run Mac OS? Or Windows? Maybe Linux...even Unix, or even BEOS?

I have know Pat Newman personally for the almost 3 years. After confronting him with my IP trace his only response was his roomate posted the original post.

But if you must know the truth, I did a wingsuit jump with one of the moderators of this forum who confirmed what I already knew, Pat Newman... aka http://patnewmanphotography.com
    IS LOU MELTON

Personally, I could care less. But Elsinore is MY DZ, and anyone EX-employee who tries to bring my DZ down is going to be called out.

Let me guess ur a Mac guy?

  16. LMAO like I told Pat in the PM I sent him.... IP addresses dont lie!

I could post the PM Pat sent me claiming the OP was his ROOMATE.

I dont know you from Adam but I know u could not be more wrong.

PM me if you want the lowdown. Or just ask a moderator for more info. I can prove what I know but technically it could be construed as hacking.

BTW, I am just as "disillusioned" as the guy you replied to, in fact if you knew ANYTHING about IPs you (like the moderators do) u would know I am disillusioned just like Pat Newman IS Lou Melton.

I will not post the PMs I have publicly....but PM and they are yours....

    ...............its good to be back!!!!

  18. thanks for the reply dave but posters like you dont really need to keep your info updated.

I am speaking to the sub 1000 jumpers. More importanly currency!

My point is camera....some shit has went down that is pissing me off. I love skydiving...and I LOVE my DZ... but if I find out a jumper is on the Otter with me, and a camera and less than 200 jumps..I AM PULLING OFF!!

This shit needs to stop...I was almost killed by an idiot that thinks he has mad skillz

EDIT: The issue is I found out today I am the 3rd person almost colliding with this person who is a danger.
