  1. You can get anything you want at Larry Hill's restaraunt (excepting service).... You can get anything you waaaant at Larry Hill's restaraaaant.....! John Arizona Hiking Trails
  2. It seems to be anyone with more than two jumps when pontificating in either: a) A bar b) an internet forum Expertise comes in many forms and skydiving has many disciplines. An expert in Belly-RW may not be the expert in VRW or Canopy piloting. John Arizona Hiking Trails
  3. Just because you can post on a forum does not mean you know shit. There are several examples around here of folks with lots of posts and no clue what they speak of. John Arizona Hiking Trails
  4. Made it clicky http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sPrTWSSD6AQ Not sure what you're asking about. Lots of CRW, some old gear, some tandem, some drinking in the plane. Nothing really odd. John Arizona Hiking Trails
  5. Clicky http://picasaweb.google.com/heatherverley/RobHollrahMemorialSkydive?feat=directlink Here is the only picture I have of the Heart. I am still trying to get a completed picture. Thanks to everyone who shared the love for Rob. John Arizona Hiking Trails
  6. I like Face Book, Shazam, and a Geocaching app, I have. My wife tells me there is an app that lets a woman track her menstrual cycles so they can show their doctor if there are any abnormalities. I think its called iMaBitch. John Arizona Hiking Trails
  7. I second that. Either grow a pair or learn to enjoy holding her purse at the mall. John Arizona Hiking Trails
  8. Rob Hollrah passed away on Sunday, March 8th. He posted occasionally on here as Bodipilot. I have known Rob for 16 years, and he was a true friend. He is survived by his daughter, Alex, his sister Michelle, his mother Lou, and his girlfirend Leah. A memorial celebration and ash dive will be held on April 18th at Skydive Arizona. Contact me for details. Fly free, my friend. You are missed. John Arizona Hiking Trails
  9. If you are referring to the minor fraying on the white loop, I would replace them eventually, but I would continue to jump them while waiting for the new ones to arrive. Nothing structural about the wear and I don't see any functional impact from the wear. Lesson to learn is don't drag your rig when packing. John Arizona Hiking Trails
  10. After you clear student status, you are able to self-jumpmaster your self. You will do some coach jumps and prepare for your A license. With an A license you need to jump every 60 days to stay current. During this time you will meet lots of new people and start working on flying with others. This will lead to an increase in social contacts and drinking. You will also need to buy your own gear. This is a sizeable expense that will strain relationships with spouse, friends, and family. Soon you will have your B license. At this point you only need to jump every 90 days. However, you will discover that you miss your new DZ friends and the camaraderie (drinking) so you'll still jump as often as you can. By the time you have your C license, you will only have occasional contact with your "old" friends. They just got tired of hearing your jumping stories. Family relations will also be strained with claims of "you're wasting your life" and "you're not paying me attention" being common. The D license will be the pinacle of you skydiving career. You can now do anything. D also stands for drinking, debt, dysfunction, and divorce. Welcome to the sport ! John Arizona Hiking Trails
  11. I have insurance for medical through work. A routine HMO plan. I have disability insurance too. Have not used either for skydiving. Frankly, the nature of your posts concern me. You have not yet jumped except a few tandems, apparently) but your posts are usually about what can go wrong in skydiving. You may be just overly cautious, but you need to realize, there is nothing safe about skydiving. You can get hurt and hurt badly. You could die. You could die doing a lot of other things, too. If you are that concerned about the safety of the sport, it is not something you should participate in. Education is fine, but if you are looking for some level of assurance that you will be safe, you probably should look to a less risky endeavor. John Arizona Hiking Trails
  12. Yes, but it is situational. To move quickly, you must force on the air. For example if your body is relaxed in your track, you likely are not getting maximum lift and speed. This will mean you are not creating the optimum distance from the rest of your group. It helps if you start from a relaxed body position, but you must tense some portion of your body to move efficiently. Mentally relaxed is much more important than physically relaxed. 13. Not exactly a second generation skydiver, since my father and I started together. I certainly agree that jumps with your parents are very cool. I have a lot of really cool jumps I have been on, but the best ones in the log book say "2-way with Dad." John Arizona Hiking Trails
  14. $75 every two weeks for a three bedroom house. Dust, Vaccuum, Clean bathrooms, Kitchen, mop floors, make beds. Wow, this is my 200th post in 9 years. BillVon, here I come.
  15. A wise rigger once told me: "We try to make things idiot proof, but idiots are very resourceful." John Arizona Hiking Trails
  16. I use that one when she's dragging heading back to the car. John Arizona Hiking Trails
  17. My family and I do a lot. I have found over 500 caches. Its a great deal of fun. I really like how it keeps my 8 year old engaged when we are hiking. I can get an extra mile from her if she thinks there us "treasure" ahead! John Arizona Hiking Trails
  18. : 13 : 0 Did Gary Beyer's OTL Invitational. 14-ways on Saturday and 16-ways on Sunday. Finished the weekend with a rocking 7-point 16-way. John Arizona Hiking Trails
  19. If you go low, you should continue to work your way up until you reach your breakoff level. If you are to breakoff at 4000, then you need to continue to work the skydive until 4,000. Leaving any sooner will cause people to not know where you are. You should never turn around in a track. Continuing along your radial is expected and predictable by others on the dive. John Arizona Hiking Trails
  20. Actually that was "The Electric Company" where they did the parts of word an put it together. We have all heard of prefixes (at the beginning of a word) and suffixes (at the end). Fuck is the first "infix' (in the middle). As in In-fucking-credible.
  21. I had a high school linguistics teacher who did a lecture on this subject -- Obscenities and Profanities. Most people don't realize there is a difference between the two. In general, references to the human body and its functions can be obscene, e.g. Shit and Fuck. References to a deity, such as God Damn, are profane. The distinction of what is obscene or profane is cultural and changes over time. Many years ago, "Zounds,” which is a contraction of "God's Wounds" was considered highly profane and its usage in public would get you in much trouble. When I was a kid, the use of the word Crap would have me chewing on a bar a soap. Now little kids use it without much of a fuss. George Carlin discusses the evolution of linguistics in much of his work. Most are familiar with his "Seven Words.” His point in that monologue is that there are no bad words. Bad thoughts, bad ideas, yes; but bad words, no. The government drives much of our cultural discussion on what falls in these categories when it comes to their use on the public airwaves. Some words are okay in one context but not another. I can "play with my balls" as long as I am referring to tennis, soccer, or football. If I am referring to playing with my scrotum, I am no longer aloud to say that on the air. Again citing Carlin -- Its okay to say pissed as long as you are referring to anger, not urine. You can be pissed off, but not pissed on. Check out Carlin's "When will Jesus bring the pork chops" for an excellent and funny discussion of linguistic evolution. John Arizona Hiking Trails
  22. I like how they are: Home of the Eastern United States Skydiving Championship! I should be training for this, right? No Airspeed, No Fury, No Arsenal. I might have a chance! John Arizona Hiking Trails
  23. If you are going to vote just because some rock star, some clergyman, or someone on the internet said you should... Don't. Vote because you have a civic mind, have an opinion and want to participate. Otherwise, stay home. John Arizona Hiking Trails
  24. When my daughter was 3 months old, I sewed grippers on her sleeper and put her in the chest carrier (Snugli). I put my jumpsuit and rig on and we went as a tandem. My wife borrowed a camera helmet and an old jumpsuit and rig of mine and went as video. John Arizona Hiking Trails
  25. Its easy. I live and ride in Arizona. Very few bugs. Dealing with the intense heat scorching off the road is a bigger problem. John Arizona Hiking Trails
